Neowin Mobile updated (for iPhone)

Recommended Posts

Blackice (Brad Butner) has returned to the coder team after an extended leave due to work constraints with gifts!

www.neowin.net now redirects automatically when accessed from a handheld device such as a PDA, XDA or Smartphone, this has also been extended to the iPhone and Blackice and Timan have joined forces to bring extended iPhone specific capabilities to the mobile version.

iPhone is detected automatically and that version is displayed. We plan on adding more features for the iPhone and Neowin Mobile in the near future.

http://mobile.neowin.net still works but https://www.neowin.net should redirect automatically now on a mobile device.

Weird, cause I thought iPhone/touch could run Neowin natively?

It can, but why not create an integrated version much like other sites have for the iPhone? It makes the overall experience much more user friendly. Also as Neobond said, we've got more plans for it. Some which I am looking forward to working on over the next week.

Can't smartphones be delivered the iPhone version too? It seems silly to be brought to the mobile page and not see news right away. I have to first select a category and then see the news.
I see the news right away, from the "main" category. I'm using a Palm TX.

Your phone is displaying the original mobile page. The detection script determined you should see that one.

However, I will look at updating it so it shows the main news right off the bat like the other version does.

Yeah, you're seeing the newer one.

Works fine on my 16GB ipod touch :D

And will work even better soon. :)

Is there any way to post a screener of what neowin would look like on an iPhone? Just curious.

Yeah, I think I have an image of it. Give me a minute to find it.

Correction: I do not have an image of the new design on an iPhone. Only pre-release designs.

I have a Blackjack using PIE. I don't see why the script should direct me to that site. All the mobile sites I visit (most in the Engadget network) direct you to the main pain which lists all front page news articles. It doesn't seem efficient directing any browser to a page where they have to click through to get to any kind of content.

The Blackjack isn't running WM6, is it? If it's not, then that would be why it sent you to the original mobile page.

But as I said, I shall look into updating that mobile page so it has the same general layout of the new mobile page (news sections on top, front page news below it).

I'm seeing the main site on my iPhone. I don't see the iPhone specific site.

This would be due to me not finishing it yet. I had it done, but then I came up with a better idea and scrapped the original. The wait will be worth the features. :)

I have redirection turned off for the iPhone until then.

Ok, it sounds so awesome :woot:

This maintenance-focused release includes bug fixes, updated translations, and a range of safe enhancements. This release fixes a Windows security issue that could allow arbitrary file deletion during privileged cleaning (reported by Zeze with TeamT5). It also adds new cleaners (including a DNS cache cleaner, Claude Code, and Visual Studio Code forks), support for multiple Chrome and Edge profiles, new deep scan options for developer directories like node_modules and venv, and safer, faster file shredding. All Platforms Added cleaners for Claude Code, DNS cache, and many Visual Studio Code forks. Added support for multiple Chrome and Edge profiles. Chrome can now clean downloaded AI models. Deep Scan can optionally remove venv, __pycache__, node_modules, and .angular directories. Deep Scan is faster by skipping directories on the keep list. File shredding is safer, faster, and leaves fewer recoverable traces. Improved handling of cookies, symlinks, Unicode filenames, external processes, and configuration files. Improved Expert Mode warnings and long warning dialogs. Fixed crashes related to cleaner detection, invalid Unicode, and malformed cleaner data. Clipboard is now cleared automatically after shredding files via paste operations. Linux Added AppImage support. Added cleaners for Visual Studio Code, Codeium, Librewolf (.deb), Transmission (Flatpak), and Profanity. Improved Linux trash detection, including Snap-installed applications and mounted drives. Fixed Wayland root CLI issues and several Snap-related problems. Improved package dependencies, AppStream metadata, and desktop file handling. Fixed startup crashes when Python Requests is unavailable. Windows Fixed a security vulnerability that could allow arbitrary file deletion when cleaning with elevated privileges. Added %WindowsSystem% variable support. Improved clipboard clearing using native Windows APIs. Improved installer experience on unsupported Windows versions. Reduced installer size and improved application robustness. Fixed Unicode handling, filename anonymization, Git revision reporting, and splash screen stability. • DriversCloud 12.1.6 by Razvan Serea With DriversCloud (formerly My-Config.com), you can explore your computer easily, safely and free. The application quickly scans your PC and identifies the hardware and software components. DriversCloud then establishes a list of the different drivers compatible with your OS and hardware. Download the drivers needed for the proper functioning of your computer. To detect your drivers, DriversCloud also displays a detailed summary of your hardware and software configuration, analyzes your BSOD, monitors in real-time your PC voltages and temperatures and lets you share your configuration online. Once the hardware components have been detected, you will be able to obtain with just a few clicks the latest drivers corresponding to the identified hardware. You can record your configuration on the site for free, and can get the corresponding URL to post the configuration to technical forums, e-mail and social networks. You can also download the detection result (the configuration) as a PDF file. To protect the user's privacy and data confidentiality, a 4-level confidentiality system was created that filters the XML marks and gives control to the user. The default level can be modified in the preferences. Using the maximum level will prevent the user from publishing his configuration and generating a corresponding PDF file. In non-connected mode, each XML configuration is stored on the server for one day (for practical reasons). However, you are given the opportunity to manually delete it. Created in 2004, and continually improved, My-Config.com has established itself on the web as a free service to PC users running Windows and Linux operating systems. The service is designed to work with the most common Internet browsers (Edge, Firefox, Chrome, Safari).
