New payment options for subscription?

Recommended Posts

Only the Admins touch the money stuff so it isn't my time that would be involved. If one of the Admins has to take an afternoon off of work to set up a new system then it won't be worth it. Subscriptions are an additional service that we offer the members to keep them involved with the site but it is not a significant source of revenue for us. In fact, there have been times when it has cost more to have subscribers than if we didn't have them.

I see where you're coming from.

But, I don't see the big deal ("costs" and "efforts") in the 10 minutes it takes to get a MoneyBookers (or any alternative) account up and running? I understand if it's like you're going to make a merchant account or a 2checkout.com for example (it takes $50 for 2co setup fee, and weeks in process for the merchant account), but did you really have looked at MoneyBookers website? If 10 minutes is not worth it for your loyal members, may be it's, and it's not worth it supporting the site I like too (sending a check will cost me more than $10 by registered mail, actually about $24.5), why would I bother then? it's not like I'll make a significant difference in revenue to the site anyway.

While I would understanding using registered mail to sent a certified cheque, is there a need for registered mail for a regular cheque? If it gets lost then it will be stale dated in a few months. MoneyBookers is one more thing we'd need to set up and associate with a bank account plus we'd have to trust them to be a reputable organization. It just becomes one more thing to manage.

Don't get me wrong, an Admin may yet choose to do this, but I was just suggesting why it might not happen.

We suggested "MoneyBookers" as an example, it won't cost more. Creating an account there and start to accept payments is FREE, just it takes small fees (EUR 0.50/transaction charged by the sender) while receiving money is FREE, just like any other payment gateway.

Sorry mate, but anything that they need to pay additional money on and have to setup and spend time administering, would take away resources from admins and mods.

Simply put, its tough. You have another way you can pay, its just that you seem to preferr not to, but sending a cheque.

Strange! :ermm: Members care to pay for subscriptions while the administration don't care because they don't have enough time or they don't want to make little more efforts.

They do care, otherwise they wouldnt have set the whole thing up to start with :s. Seems to me you are just upset because they are using a method which does not work for your country. That said however, you can pay by cheque, which has been said many times in this thread.

I didn't say they don't do efforts, they do a great job in the website as you said above. I just mean they don't want to make EXTRA effort for managing this subscription system for the members who cares and want to pay for the community!

Actually you DID say they dont ake the effort, when you said and i quote:

administration don't care because they don't have enough time or they don't want to make little more efforts.

They have another method for you... thats right... cheque.

Neowin just lost a subscriber! :D -- No problem, I will try to find an alternative. Just consider adding another payment gateway next time you (Administrators) have enough time for that.

Why has it lost a sub? You never where a sub, so in reality there is NOTHING to loose anyway. Also, why dont you become a sub? Send a cheque and pay that way. Im sure many people have done so before and im also 100% sure that Neowin are not in the habbit of ripping people off.

Ultimately, and somewhat ironically, if Neowin gets so many cheques from Egypt that it becomes a bother to take them all to the bank then we will probably set up an automatic system. So rather than taking the Field of Dreams approach ("Built it and they will come") we may first evaluate if there is an actual need or not before we spent the effort.

Lol. Yeah but for the time being i would say send the cheques. That i am sure is how they would evaluate?

Keep quoting, I don't know what's the point of all this quotes anyway!

"Effort" I don't like to keep hearing this word from you, there is no effort in this, so don't keep saying it. Anyway, don't bother yourself and your admins, no need to do anything for us.

I think you are being unreasonable now. As much as i try to generally disgree with fred derf where possible :D , i think hes being pretty clear with you on this matter.

I keep quoting because you are constantly contradicting yourself in your posts. If you dont like me quoting you, then stop contradicting yourself and stop ordering people around like you are important enough to warrent the mods and admins setup something especially for you.

If there was an influx of Egyptian users, then im sure they would be pleased to help you, as has been pointed out MANY times in this thread. But as there is not, there is no point wasting time, money and resources doing so. Especially when you can easily send a cheque.

As for your rudness toward Fred, you should be warned that not only is he a Mod on the forums, who has the power to make life difficult for you if you upset him, but he is also VERY respected as being one of the most ethical and fair mods on here and he has a lot of people who listen and respect him. What he is saying is correct, fair and ethical. You just seem to ahve a problem because its not going the way you demand, which is very selfish of you.

Exactly.

You are not the right person to judge me. I have the right to request whatever I want, and the administration have the right to accept or refuse these requests. You are just a member like me who don't have the right to judge me or anyone here.

I don't like the way you are talking to me, and I don't accept describing me as "very selfish". You have been reported!

I dont like to defend Rich, because he english and i try to avoid doing that ;) , but i dont think hes having a go at you, and im certainly not having a go at you.

Ive tried to explain to you as best as my limited vocabulary will allow that Neowin in My opinion does want to have as many subscribers as possible, and for myself, there is no particular benefit in being a subscriber other than the knowing that you have supported Neowin with a subscription fee. The administration are not trying to disrespect you or anyone else from an unsupported paypal country by not setting up an alternative method of payment but it has been explained why by fred, and i think that should suffice..

I do respect your comments. Just I can't accept someone talking to me in this bad way.

Peace :)

Report me all you wish. I have said NOTHING wrong to you other than you are being selfish and harsh on the mods and admins, which is true from what can be seen in the thread.

You are correct however that you can request what you wish and the mods and admins can decline your request. However, that does not give you the right to be rude about them in such ways, when you dont get what you want. If you dont like people being rude to you, then why are you rude to others?

4 years have passed since my first attempt to subscribe and nothing much as changed in order for me to join the club.

You should send a PM to Daniel mate (Y)

If you had any respect for the comments people where making here, this thread would have died a long time ago. Again, speak to and about the mods and admins respectfully and others will speak to you with respect.

Respect is earnt through respect and not given on your say so.

I think this has served its purpose now.

It's been said time and time again that there is only so much we are able to do. If we are able to add in another payment gateway then we will and you'll be notified about it via the site announcements forum. In the meantime, this just seems to have gone down-hill and has served its purpose.

Therefore,

    • In what way is any of what I said incorrect? To install an update you need to close all browser instances, upping it from once a month to once a fortnight is an inconvenience for users. Particularly when updates don't offer functionality that users want (notably copilot). Security updates should come as they are needed, not on a release schedule
