Just a thought. Dunno if anyone has thought of this before now. The whole "dying leader" thing whom everyone assumes is Laura right? Well, what if that dying leader is actually Galactica herself. She is technically a living thing now with the Cylon gooey stuff in her and all, so, yeah? From the promo it certainly looks like Galactica goes to sleep with the fishes anyways.

That's gotta be the most interesting theory I have ever read. Seriously, that's what I call "thinking out of the box". (Y)

It's such a shame they put so little effort in making Caprica City actually look like a futuristic city when showing shots at ground level. Seeing normal 20-21th century cars driving down the streets is a bit of a turn off if you'd ask me. Right now it's just a generic Earth city with the occasional space ship flying through the air. The two don't really mix.

Its almost as if they made Baltar's relationship with Six different than in the original miniseries.

i thought it was almost the exact same, its just this time it showed her trying to gain his trust or well be generally nice and caring. but considering she was just about to help nuke everyone, im going to say gain his trust :)

It's such a shame they put so little effort in making Caprica City actually look like a futuristic city when showing shots at ground level. Seeing normal 20-21th century cars driving down the streets is a bit of a turn off if you'd ask me. Right now it's just a generic Earth city with the occasional space ship flying through the air. The two don't really mix.

The whole series has always been a blend of low tech and high tech. Galactica, interstellar warship with conventional phone systems; Vipers with analog controls Mark II's as opposed to the fly-by-wire Mark VII's. I did always find it odd that there were heavy duty wheeled military transport trucks on New Caprica, surely they were not part of the human fleet, and thus were brought by the occupying cylons. Marines use conventional weapons, firing bullets, as does Galactica's defenses ... no laser guns here. The show takes a bit of realistic approach to the future in assuming that some designs are as good as they will ever get, for all we know Baltar's limo gets 75mpg ;)

I don't mind the blend of low and high tech, especially because Galactica was about to be retired and turned into a museum. Which means it was already behind the times for Colonial standards.

The thing is that Caprica City looks way too much like any North American city from ground level. When seeing the skyline in most shots it does look very futuristic. My main issue is that it's just not very convincing when you see recognizable cars running down the streets of an alien city. Same thing applies to most other things you see: traffic lights, the roads themselves, props on the sidewalks etc. I don't need flying cars or traffic lights floating in mid-air for it to look futuristic. It's just a real shame that the creators haven't made a single effort to make stuff like that look even remotely different compared to "our" tech.

Stuff like that already has different designs when I cross the border from the Netherlands to Germany, let alone from Earth to Caprica. ;)

The mix of alien and everyday earth tech is what makes it great for me.

Not related to the current episode or the episode coming up, but the producers/writers, Edward James Olmos and Mary McDonnell went up with Whoopi Goldberg (The moderator) to the UN council to talk about the current world issues and how BSG relates to them. I've seen the video and it's great.

The United Nations already feels like its own alternate universe -- one snatched from the 1970s, with its retro-disco architectural design and Swingtown decor -- but when I walked into the assembly room where Sci Fi and the UN's Department of Public Information was holding a Battlestar Galactica retrospective, the illusion was sealed: In front of each of the 200-plus delegate seats (you know, the ones with the mics and the translator ear thingies) was a placard from each of the 12 Colonies of Kobol.

Sci Fi turned the United Nations into the Quorum of Twelve. Which may be the third coolest thing I've ever seen.

While the idea of the UN hosting a retrospective on Battlestar Galactica might sound a little odd, as the night went on it started to make perfect sense. From the very beginning, BSG has dealt with moral issues -- what it means to be human, the rule of law vs. the military might, the arguable merits of armed insurgency -- issues which find themselves on the UN's docket almost every day. As Robert Orr, the Assistant Secretary-General for Policy Planning put it, "You've got people thinking about issues that we try and get people thinking about every day."

Moderated by Whoopi Goldberg (pictured, left), who prompted the conversation like a good bartender/stand-up veteran ("The UN is more than a building with fantastic curtains..."), the panel -- featuring Edward James Olmos (pictured, right), Mary McDonnell (pictured, center), and executive producers Ronald D. Moore and David Eick -- discussed topics ranging from torture to women's rights to the pitfalls of technology. The only questions from the crowd of 300 or so were taken from a whip-smart batch of high school students. And it was never less than interesting, very often fascinating, and once, powerfully moving.

When one of the UN's representatives talked about how part of their mandate was to safeguard the human rights of everyone, regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, and station, Olmos got a little heated. "You never should've invited me here," he said, before blasting the UN for continuing to use race as a term of separation, of division among peoples. His voice rose, steadily, as if years of social activism was coming to a head on this night. Then, directing his attention to the high schoolers: "Adults will never be able to stop using the word 'race' as a cultural determinant....There is only one race: the human race. SO SAY WE ALL!"

I swear to you, everyone in that chamber shouted it right back at him. Because the Admiral asked us to.

And Mary McDonnell leaned over and gently wiped a tear from Olmos' cheek.

There are many reasons why I'll miss Battlestar Galactica when it wraps up this Friday. But not the least of which is that it's allowed me to witness moments like that.

Who else is shedding a tear at BSG's exit?

I think they were referring to her shirt in the picture.

I guessed that much but the humor missed the mark, people should be able to wear more than five colors and not automatically assumed to be gay. I want my heterosexual rainbows back.

Looks like the finale is clocking in the 9:00-11:11 time slot, so maybe and 1:35 mins of show left outside of commercials... I will miss this show, or at least until extended cut episodes hit Blu-Ray box set :)
