X11 pakages not working

I have downloaded apples x11 implementation and tried to get some of the packages to run from http://www.opendarwin.org/projects/darwinp...orts/en/x11.php

Ive dowloaded all the gtk things installed them and when i install a program like gimp i carnt c it ne where on the hard drive?

Can u help me or point me to a walkthough of how to get this stuff up n running?

Though DarwinPorts installs in /opt/local by default, these packages have been built to install in /usr/local

Just run xterm, browse to /usr/local/ and fire up the appropriate program :)

ive found them now. but when i try to run one of them ny typing in the name of the app like "gimp" it doesnt do ne thing. just tells me "gimp: command not recognised"

well, make sure you're in the directory for the gimp, then try ./gimp . The ./ shows the command prompt to look in the current directory for he file (yeah, i know it's messed up, but it's how things work...)
