It was revealed today that the awesome Julie Benz (pictured inside - woh momma!) will topline Saw V, the latest installment in the Lionsgate/Twisted Pictures franchise. Benz will portray an elegant woman in the pic, set for release Oct. 24. "Saw V" is directed by David Hackl, who has served as the production designer on the second, third and fourth versions, and written by Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan. Production began March 17 in Toronto, Canada. Benz has been flying up the Hollywood ladder after starring as Darla in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. She stars in Showtime's Dexter and has also starred in Rambo and the upcoming Punisher: The War Zone. I guess you can say she's the new "Lionsgate chick," alongside Jessica Alaba.

Jigsaw's Wife Talks 'Saw V'

With Lionsgate's Saw V in production in Toronto, we decided to chat with star Betsy Russell about her role as Jill, Jigsaw's wife. You can read the skinny inside, but don't hold your breathe for anything too revealing - everything will be answered when SAW V arrives in theaters October 26.

Last week we had the chance to chat with one of the new stars of the SAW franchise, Betsy Russell, who plays Jigsaw's wife Jill in the popular serial killer-horror series. Now that she's one of the main stars of SAW V we tried to dig to get some goodies out of her. I knew this was going to be a battle. When asked what does Jill's future hold in SAW V she joked, "If I told you, I'd have to kill you in a bloody and disgusting way..."

Depending on how you look at Jigsaw, you might see his cause as noble. Russell tells us what it feels like to be his wife. "It feels great to be cherished and adored," she explains, "I think every wife should be, it's a great aphrodisiac..."

Jill may or may not agree with what Jigsaw is doing, but what does Russell think of his actions? " some of us need a moment or an event to happen in our lives to make us step off the treadmill of life and say, 'hey, am I appreciating what I have?' Let me re-evaluate here and see if I'm making the most of it... Jigsaw just takes it to the next level... You will have to wait to see how Jill feels about it," she teases.

In SAW V, David Hackl has taken over directing duties for Darren Lynn Bousman (who directed the previous three), Russell tells us she misses Bousman, but it having a great time with Hackl. "Everyone misses Darren but Hackl is awesome!" She continues, "They are both creative geniuses. Hackl is just more quiet about it."

The SAW franchise is said to go for a total of six films, with five sequels. We asked Russell if she heard that a seventh was in talks, she explains that it;'s up to the fans. "Yes [there will be a seventh SAW] if fans keep wanting more..."

Finale Saw V Casting

We scored some pretty juicy Saw V bits from Lionsgate this afternoon starting with the final casting news for the film. We learned that Laura Gordon will play Ashley, Greg Bryk (Screamers 2, Shoot Em Up) will play Malick and Carlo Rota (Boondock Saints) will play Charles in the fourth sequel arriving in theaters October 24. If that wasn't cool enough, here's the OFFICIAL synopsis for the film: In the fifth installment of the popular SAW franchise, Hoffman is seemingly the last person alive to carry on the Jigsaw legacy. But when his secret is threatened, Hoffman must go on the hunt to eliminate all loose ends.

I don't like the sound of "eliminating all loose ends." That doesn't sound like it fits with the Jigsaw philosophy. Sounds like he's killing just to kill, which changes the story.

Of course they changed my view of Jigsaw in the fourth film when they introduced the fact that John was vigilantly killing from the get go, which I don't like either. I was thinking he was actually trying to test human nature, push people to their limits, but he's actually doing it for his own pleasure after all. He's no better than any other killer. He sickens me

'Saw VI' To Be Directed By Kevin Greutert

B-D learned from Saw V Director David Hackl that he'll be stepping aside letting Kevin Greutert take the reigns. Greutert will be making his directorial debut with Saw VI, but he's been involved with the franchise since the beginning editing all the films. Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton will pen the screenplay. Saw V hits theaters this October 24th with Saw VI to be announced 2009.

'Saw V' Films 3 Different Endings, 'Saw VI' Talk and Videogame Details!

Holy smokes do we have some goodies for you! Earlier this evening we broke the news that Kevin Greutert will step behind the camera for Lionsgate's Saw VI, but that was just the beginning. Inside you can read about the traps in Saw V, how a 7-year-old created the big finale, how the film has three different endings, see who returns in the next sequel and get the big lowdown on the SAW videogame coming in 2009!

Today B-D was invited to a meet-and-greet with the cast and crew for Lionsgate's upcoming SAW V at a swanky Beverly Hills bar. The booze was flying, the appetizers were great and the scoops were yummy...

Saw V Twists & Traps

Producer Marc Berg had a lot to say about the next film in the series, with the typical yearly chat about the traps. ?[We have] six different traps, more gore" he tells Bloody-Disgusting. "People escape one trap, just to get caught in another; it's closer in feel to the original SAW as thematically it?s about teamwork. I am far and away convinced that these are the best traps we have ever had," he explains with a smile.

And for those of you who feel the films have become increasingly confusing, fear not! "This film is far less confusing and more linear, and there are TWO great twists," he explains. "Just when you thought you figured it out, we twist again. We bring in some new characters that you really get to know... we bring in some peripheral characters that play out in SAW VI - the people that you think will live? not a chance!"

Berg also chatted with us about the return of Dunstan and Melton for the next sequel. "Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton are back as writers, we spent the day yesterday beating out the form of SAW VI. Lastly, of course we can?t make a SAW film without Tobin Bell as Jigsaw!" spilling the beans on Bell's obvious return.

SAW V director David Hackl told us a little bit about the traps, and the strange person who helped design the grand finale trap. ?A couple of years ago my son Sean, who is now 9-years-old, did a drawing that was hanging in my office throughout the making of SAW III and IV, and that became the design of the trap for this film," Hackl tells us glowing with pride. "Certainly I could show you a drawing by a 7-year-old that would scare ySAW V Has 3 Endings for DVD?!VD?!

Then the rumors started flying about some different filmed endings. ?We actually shot three different endings, they each say different things, and set up the story for SAW VI in different ways," Hackl tells Bloody-Disgusting exclusively. "Two of them are similar and one is very different!? Berg tells us all endings will be included on the SAW Videogame Details!tails!

Producer Oren Koules told us a little about the making of the upcoming SAW video game, which has been teased on the site a few times as of late. ?Charlie Clouser is doing the music," also adding that "it takes place during the timeframe of the first SAW." He continues, "All the actors real voices are involved - and it is being written by Leigh Whannell and James Wan. The game will be available in October 2009 on all platforms, but the heads at the game company are not letting us talk too much about it.? Berg also explained to us that the game will be a walk -through where you pick up weapons along the way. He also joked that he thought the plotline was so good that he wishes he could use it for SAW VI, adding that they don't want to make a movie based on the game.

Betsy Russell, Scott Patterson, Costas Mandylor, Julie Benz and Tobin Bell round out the cast for SAW V, which hits theaters this October 24th.

^ What's funny about that is it wasn't even a Saw film originally. It was a screenplay some nobody (Darren Lynn Bousman) had written and no one would pick it up until Mark Berg and Oren Koules read it and knew it was Saw II. They adapted it and now we're headed towards Saw V.

The first one is still my favorite, Saw II is probably my least favorite (competes with Saw IV). I liked Saw IV, but they changed my views on Jigsaw, so I no longer have the same level of respect for his character like I did. Hopefully Saw V changes that.

The original will always be my favorite Saw film... I can still remember the goose bumps I got at the movie theater when the tape recorder was pulled out of Zeke's coat pocket and then John stood up.. the music was perfect!.... as always though.. I will go see the next Saw movie on opening night... I have never been disappointed with any of the films.. but if I put them in order of favorites... it would be I, III, IV, II... I await Oct 24...

    • Microsoft confirms Windows 11 26H2, urges IT admins to prepare for release by Usama Jawad Windows 11 typically follows an annual update cycle, but Microsoft recently broke that tradition a bit by releasing a "26H1" version in the first half of this year as a "scoped" build for select new silicon PCs only. This version was not available for customers using 24H2 and 25H2 builds, as Microsoft is busy preparing version 26H2 for them, confirmed officially for the first time. In a Windows IT Pro blog, Microsoft has urged IT admins to prepare for the upcoming release of Windows 11 version 26H2. The company has confirmed that this will be a small enablement package (eKB) that will simply light up certain disabled features that are already present in the operating system's code base. This means that the "refined" Windows update and deployment experience will be simpler and quicker, with minimal disruptions, as the feature update will simply toggle a few flags rather than performing a complete replacement. Microsoft has explained that this is all possible because the standard Windows 11 releases share the same servicing branch and hence, the same source code. However, this also means that Windows 11 26H1 users won't be able to upgrade to 26H2 as that is a different branch, but this is something we have known for a while now. Similar to previous annual feature updates, Windows 11 26H2 will offer the following support cycles: 24 months of support for Home, Pro, Pro EDU, and Pro for Workstations editions 36 months of support for Enterprise, Education, IoT Enterprise, and Enterprise Multi-session editions Microsoft has not confirmed a concrete release date for Windows 11 26H2, but noted that it is "coming soon". If we go by the ongoing release cadence, we can expect it to begin rolling out in early October 2026. As such, IT admins have been encouraged to begin validating Windows Insider releases in the Experimental Channel, plan rollout rings, and strategize the utilization of their existing deployment tools.
    • Windows 11 gets new audio improvements in the latest builds by Taras Buria Today's Experimental builds (26H1 and Future Platforms, formerly Canary) pack several audio-related improvements. If your device is enrolled in the Experimental Channel (26H1), you can download build 28120.2315, while those in the Future Platforms version have build 29613.1000 to try. Here is what is new in build 29613.1000: [Audio] Following up on our previous improvements, we’re making some more adjustments to Settings > System > Sounds based on your feedback. Namely, we’ve updated the “All sound devices” page so: You now have the ability to change default devices from this page. Each of the devices displayed on this page now has a little volume meter next to it to show if there is audio actively playing. We’ve adjusted the page design slightly so now you can filter whether you’re viewing input or output devices. We’ve added toggles so you can choose if you want to hide or show disabled, disconnected, and unplugged devices on this page. We’ve also updated the input and output audio properties page for devices in Settings to now include jack information for those that need it. And here is the changelog for build 28120.2315: This update includes a small number of minor bug fixes and improvements. [Accessibility] This update improves caption style responsiveness by redrawing captions immediately for caption style changes. If no current caption is visible, a sample caption string is displayed. [Audio] This update improves the reliability of the inbox HD Audio driver. You can find the official release notes for build 28120.2315 here and for build 29613.1000 here.
    • I agree with what I think you are saying, just not in the way you are saying it. Like any tool, the amount it represents your work is perorational to the effort you put into it. It is similar to why 2nd grade math students learning to add and subtract are not allowed to use calculators, but a high-school calculous student is. For the 2nd grader, that tool would completely replace the work they are doing, for the calculous student the same tool allows them to work far more effectively while in no way replacing their effort or knowable. If you spend 30 seconds writing a prompt, then the image that comes out is no more "yours" than if you found the same image with a Google Image search. However, many of these generative tools also support highly iterative processes that allow back and forth, and merging generated images with photos or human created images. I am sure you would agree that a human spending hours of time working on a project, even if AI was involved in the process, still reflects that human's work.
    • Windows 11 version 26H2 is now available for testing in the latest preview build by Taras Buria Friday Windows 11 preview builds are here. Insiders in the Experimental (formerly Dev) and Beta Channel can download builds 26300.8697 and 26220.8690. There are no new features, but Microsoft is officially moving the Experimental Channel to version 26H2. In addition, Microsoft is improving the copy dialog in File Explorer, the Start menu reliability, and fixing virtualization issues. Here is the changelog: [General] With today’s build, Windows Insiders in the Experimental channel will see the versioning updated under Settings > System > About (and winver) to version 26H2. For more information, see the Windows Insiders blog. [File Explorer] We’ve improved the visual consistency and reliability of the Copy dialog in Dark mode, including its launch experience and the expanded progress view. [Start menu] - Also available in Beta Improved reliability of Start menu reflecting newly installed or removed apps without requiring sign-out or restart. [Taskbar] Fixed an issue for Insiders using the new smaller taskbar option, where the system tray might get cut off or pushed off screen. [Settings] - Also available in Beta Improved reliability of Settings > Apps > Startup. [Virtualization] - Also available in Beta This update addresses an issue that could result in bugchecks citing HYPERVISOR_ERROR (0x20001) and KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED (0x1E) errors after installing the latest flights on some devices during system restarts, virtual machine operations, or while running some gaming applications. You can find the official changelog for the Experimental build here and for the Beta build here.
    • I've always preferred this possibility. There is something that feels good about the idea that all matter in the universe will eventually come back together and maybe even result in another big bang. The idea that the universe would fizzle out over the eons and forever drift apart is a little depressing. I realize it is not logical to let a basic human desire for life to have a grand everlasting meaning change the way I feel about a scientific theory, but I am human, so that is how I feel :-).
