THIS FRIDAY! Toshiba HD DVD player $98.87!

Recommended Posts

I must say, this is one of the few rumors that came true. This has been rumored on Black Friday forums for a couple days and of course no one believed it. The rumor has said there would be 5 per store. So if the first part of the rumor became true... the second part might be. 5 isn't a lot. You'll need to get there early.

However, if you don't get this, head over to Sears, pay $100 more and get Bourne and 300 and an updated model. Not a bad deal.

I must say... where are the Blu-Ray deals...?

They just announced $500 Panasonic Blu-Ray player that FINALLY almost does the same thing as this $99 HD DVD player LOL!

Btw, I don't think this loooks like 5 players to me... you?

yeah, because the panasonic blu-ray player does 1080p, which the consumers will hear about before than any other feature, and this dvd player doesn't.

You do realize the majority of the market could care less when the price difference is $300-$400, right?

And I think it might actually be THIS friday, like it says. The site gives no indication of it being for Black Friday.

Yes, like that makes ANY DIFFERENCE in quality between 1080i and 1080p. The difference in quality = ZERO! The difference in price is ..um..wait.. um $400?!?

you actually serious?

i think i asked you this before, pretty sure i did.

i like how you're trying to prove it really hard that 1080p and 1080i are not different whatsoever. if you were right, 1080p wouldn't exist, it wouldn't be marketed nor would it be this long before most of the new tvs that are coming out are supporting it.

Like I said in the front page comments, I don't really even watch movies or TV, and I would easily pick one up at this price just for the hell of it. That price is just nuts.

Edit: Does this bad boy qualify for the 5 free HD-DVD offer? If so... :o

    • Yes, I actually glossed over the Linux part from the OP. You could always go for a 9070 XT and if you really want to play Ray Traced games in the future, GeForce Now is pretty damn good on Linux https://www.neowin.net/news/nvidias-native-geforce-now-app-for-linux-bridges-the-gaming-gap-hands-on/
    • One reason it might be running hotter is dust build up within the cooling or perhaps the paste has dried out. You could always try repasting your old GPU and cleaning the cooler. Your experience in Linux will be much better with an AMD GPU; the performance in gaming is much closer to Windows than nVidia would be. I personally think on Windows, AMD drivers are junk.
    • I reviewed it back in March, but I didn't have a 5070 at the time https://www.neowin.net/reviews/amd-rx-9070-review-vs-rtx-5070-4070-and-rx-9070-xt-7800-xt--just-good-enough/ When I reviewed the 9070 I did have a 5070 to compare it against, so the scores are there for the 9070 XT. it outperforms the 5070 in raster, and is barely neck and neck in Ray Tracing. So it's better than a 5070 in everything but Ray Tracing where it is neck and neck, or just under. To be honest, the uplift from 3080 when it was new to the 9070 XT is not as great a step up. If you can find a used 4080 Super for around the same money, you would probably be better off, but if you only want to buy new then the 16GB 9070 XT is the best value for money in its category.
    • I really hope the author's health is ok. Squirreling away a official backup of this software. Looks like the internet archive already cached a copy as well - https://web.archive.org/web/20...ldbit-soft.fi/software.html
    • AMD is supported out of the box in linux because of their open source driver. Nvidia does not. All my systems are amd and all of them work nicely on linux arch without doing anything.
