BFG Tech Support

Recommended Posts

Has anyone dealt with BFG Tech Support? I was reading that their video cards have a lifetime limited warranty and recently the fan on my 7800GSOC has started making a chattering sound when it runs at full blast when I first turn on the PC. Once it throttles down below 75% it's ok. I am wondering if I may have to RMA it.

Would blowing it out good with some air do it any good? I know it's most likely the bearings but I am no fan expert. I have seen guys take them apart with jewelers tools and clean them but with my luck I'd lose the parts.

I have also looked for a third party cooler but none seem to exists as mine is the AGP version.

Thanks for any input!

i'd try using some compressed air first

if you still have the same problem then i'd give them a call

chances are the first thing they'll ask you is if you've tried cleaning the fan

hmm, ok.

I think I at least found the culprit. My case is very well protected from dust, with nylon filters over all the air holes. However I bought an Antec Vcool fan which draws air in from the back and directly into the GPU fan. Not even thinking it has been sucking cat hair, dust and other crap right into my video card!

Promptly took that out and will be cleaning the card today. Will post my findings.

Note: New Egg no longer carries the fan for this very reason I am told.

Ok, blew out the fan the best I could. Tried to get some sir under the fan where the bearings are etc..

Made a big difference and the noise is almost gone, almost. Still a little at full blast though. Should I keep running it for a while and see or go ahead and RMA it now?

Thanks,

Thanks,

well it seems like there was really no defect so i'm not sure if you can RMA it

fans just tend to get a little noisy when they get dusty

email tech said I could RMA it as it sounds like the bearings but as I said it is pretty quiet now.
