RAID 0
Okay, we have 2. sorted out. (ASUS)How about video card? Can I have some brands and models? Thanks in advance, Panarchy MSI makes kick ass video cards. So does BFG and PNY. Any of these three will be sure to please you. Check out Tomshardware.com to get some specs and benchmarks on video cards. Start here As far as memory goes, I've used Mushkin, OCZ and Corsair. All three are good. For overclocking I'd go with OCZ. Panarchy
^Huh... oh okay. Hmm... aren't you missing out nvidia? And also, can you please tell me some brands and models (doesn't have to have models) for memory? HyBry
nvidia and ati are making just GPU (graphics processing unit, I believe it is) but the named brands are the ones that actually make the finished graphics card, with memory and all the rest of the things... Memory?I don't get it... please explain (is this virtual memory?) what does it look like? Brands and (if needed) models please! it is RAM (Random Access Memory), here is link to OCZ one on newegg.com - might not be a best one as I am not very familiar with memory.... but what I hear OCZ is a good brand.. Panarchy
Hello! I have decided to rev things up a little... By Saturday (two days away) I will buy all the parts I need. Then I will start building my 'new' computer. The only part that I have already decided on is; Motherboard: ASUS Striker Extreme I have yet to decide on; 1. Cooling system 2. Case 3. Video card 4. Memory 5. CPU 6. Optical Drives 7. Hard Drives Please help me out... Thanks in advance, Panarchy PS: I think I will buy a 500GB harddrive... it will go well with my brand new 400GB one (which yesterday I returned to the store because of a fault, and they sent it to the manufacturer...) PPS: I am thinking of getting 4GB of RAM Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/600385-buying-a-new-computer/page/2/#findComment-588993955 Share on other sites
chconline Veteran Posted November 15, 2007 Veteran Share Posted November 15, 2007 I don't think you've listened to anyone on these forums yet. You kept asking for opinions, but you've already decided on the parts. For the last time, don't get the Asus Striker Extreme. :s Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/600385-buying-a-new-computer/page/2/#findComment-588994156 Share on other sites

PPS: I am thinking of getting 4GB of RAM Get two hard drives, and set them up in a RAID 0. If you're going quad core with 4 gig of RAM and a 8800 video card, you might want to have fast loading time as well. 1. Cooling system- ? 2. Case- what ever one looks good to you. I can't decide that for you 3. Video card- 8800 GT. Either MSI, eVGA, PNY, or BFI 4. Memory- OCZ 5. CPU- Intel Q6600 6. Optical Drives- LG with light scribe OR lite-on w/light scribe for your DVD-RW. Get a DVD read-only drive, too. 7. Hard Drives- Western digital. Buy two and stripe them bad boys! Panarchy
^Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600? Okay, that has been suggested to me about 4 times now. I will add it to my list. New WishList Motherboard: ASUS Striker Extreme Graphics Card: Nvidia 8800GT CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Hard Drives: Western Digital (probably a 500GB, as I have just bought a new 400GB one) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/600385-buying-a-new-computer/page/2/#findComment-588994196 Share on other sites

Panarchy
Anyways, My WishList Motherboard: ASUS Striker Extreme Graphics Card: Nvidia 8800GT CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Hard Drives: Western Digital (probably a 500GB, as I have just bought a new 400GB one) ____________________________________________________________________ I still don't have; 1. Memory 2. Optical Drives 3. Cooling system 4. Power Supply Please suggest! Thanks in advance, Panarchy PS: I'll chose the case at the store. Panarchy
4. Memory- OCZ makes great RAM. I'd go with 4 gigs.6. Optical Drives- I like anything BUT SONY. I've had two Sony DVD drives fail in less than 2 years. What is your budget like? Do you also need a new monitor? This will help narrow things down. I don't need a new monitor. I have a SAMSUNG SyncMaster 940N (19''). And for number 6, I will chose 'anything but sony!'. So thanks for that. And for number 4, OCZ? Hmm... sounds okay. I MIGHT go with that. Panarchy Case: Whatever you want really, I seem to be liking the Antec Nine Hundred atmRAM: I would say OCZ, but I'm not sure about four gigs.. I mean, it might work if you get 2x2GB and use only two slots, but AFAIK it's better to get just 2x1GB sticks. The OCZ Reapers 8500 are good. Power Supply: Seasonic M12 Uhm, and also, a nice cooler is either the Scythe Ninja or the Scythe Infinity. Hmm... Seasonic M12... sounds about right :p. I just need 1 (or more) people to agree with him, and then I'll get it! Scythe Ninja sounds cooler then Scythe Infinity. (but which is better?) Panarchy My 2 cents:Case:anything from Lian-Li.All Aluminum cases with very high quality manufacturing. The PC-7 has a great price at $~80. If you still got extra money get some Scythe fans and you got a kick ass case. Antec,Gigabye,Coolermaster and many others have great options. Power Supply:some great manufacturers are Corsair,Etasis,PC Power and Cooling,Silverstone,Seasonic, some Antec's. I would buy a Etasis 750w or a 850w,great price and its one of the best power supplies out there and they are SLI approved by NVIDIA for 2x 8800 GTX Memory: 4 GB DDR2 800,or 2 GB with higher speeds. fyi 64 bit OS required to run the 4 GB ODD: Any brand is fair game here, just get one dvd recorder 20x with a SATA interface May be confusing  Hmm... thanks. I will get the 4GB of RAM. :p DVD recorder x20? Didn't know they were out... SATA interface? Okay. Will do. (I will also get one that isn't Sony) Panarchy MSI makes kick ass video cards. So does BFG and PNY. Any of these three will be sure to please you.Check out Tomshardware.com to get some specs and benchmarks on video cards. Start here As far as memory goes, I've used Mushkin, OCZ and Corsair. All three are good. For overclocking I'd go with OCZ. ^Hmm... I don't want to be overclocking so much, so I will go with Mushkin or Corsair. Panarchy PS: Please tell me which one to go with, Mushkin or Corsair? Panarchy
My NEW WishList Motherboard: ASUS Striker Extreme Graphics Card: Nvidia 8800GT CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Hard Drives: Western Digital (probably a 500GB, as I have just bought a new 400GB one) Optical Drives: 20x DVD (and CD) burner. (Pioneer or LiteON) Power Supply: Seasonic M12 or Corsair HX520 or Corsair HX620 Memory (RAM): Mushkin or Corsair (4GB in Total) Case: Whatever I like in store, or either Coolermaster or Lian. RAID 0
Let's see.... honestly, I'd go with OCZ RAM. I've only heard good things about that brand. I'm not sure what model to go with, so maybe someone out there will suggest one. chconline Veteran Posted November 16, 2007 Veteran Share Posted November 16, 2007 Switch that motherboard for an Asus P5K-Deluxe, and go for OCZ RAM. Heck, if you have so much cash, get an X38 board :p Avoid NVIDIA on Intel chipsets.
