Sim City Societies

Recommended Posts

I tried it, it's nothing like the SC series, you can't even build Highways! I know they left that for an expansion pack but it's too weak right now. It might be better once 2 addons are out. It seems like its more for kids are people who don't have time to build subways and water systems. I hope they come out with SimCity 5 which is like the old style one day, but I doubt it.

I would give the gane a 3/5 from what I played on.

That's funny, about half a year ago I searched for information on a sequel to Sim City and nothing came up.

Thanks for the heads up!

It seems that this is not exactly a SimCity game we've been accustomed to.This is what wikipedia has told me:

On June 5, 2007, Tilted Mill Entertainment, creator of Caesar IV, announced that it would be developing SimCity Societies instead of Maxis, which had created all preceding titles. Rob Humble, head of EA's Sims Division, indicated that EA representatives had tapped Tilted Mill to create the game at E3.Comments in SimCity-related forums showed many fans reacting negatively to the changes planned for the game formula established in previous SimCity games, which included the removal of the zoning system and a more social orientation of gameplay. Responses directly from the developers attempted to ease some concerns.

Honestly, five months is not enough to develop a game of such importance to the gaming community. No wonder it's getting poor reviews.

Gameplay

While previous mainstream SimCity titles could be best described as mayordom, or "God" simulators, SimCity Societies will be different, according to the previews and statements from the developers. Societies will be a 'social engineering simulator' rather than a city-building simulator. Public works will not play a part in the game. Transportation networks will be simplified to dirt roads, paved roads, subways and bus stops. Players will not be able to build zones, a key element of past SimCity games, but will however have the ability to directly place individual buildings, something not seen in previous editions, and similar to Monte Cristo game City Life. There will also be six "social energies" which will allow players to learn about the characteristics of the citizens. The six energies will be productivity, prosperity, creativity, spirituality, authority, and knowledge. The city will look, and act, in accordance with the energies the players choose. Players may focus on satisfying one, several, or all of the energies. An improved version of the reward system introduced in SimCity 3000 will be included in the game. The game will be "fully customizable" and allow the players to customize individual buildings, decorations, citizens and game rules. When mentioning the depth to which the game will allow customization a Tilted Mill representative stated that those who were proficient in C# and XML will have easy access to every asset of the game and that basic tools would be provided for building editing.

Is this like a Civilization-SimCity hybrid with a new twist?

I guess the name speaks for itself. The game is centred around social aspects of the city rather than pure economics.

I was excited about it until I heard and saw, how bad it looks.

Watch this.

My anticipation fell like a rock.

Funny as heck to have UbiSoft's "The Settlers: Rise of An Empire" ad right in the middle of the movie. Might be a giveaway that you probably are looking at the wrong game! :p

    • That's not what I meant:) I like the tabs being above the URL bar, but previously the tab selection started from the top of the screen (y=0). So I could just quickly push my mouse up and done. Now I have to actually aim it just slightly below the top, because the tab is now a few pixels below the top. In other words, previously I only had to aim with my mouse horizontally, now I have to both vertically and horizontally. Super annoying.
