New Patch

Looks like they released a patch already. I hated SC4, so stupid I mean pipe lines...I don't want to set that up, I loved the original though.

what happened to city life...i checked gametrailers and the last media they had on it was from jan '06...has there been any new info released?

I'm not sure about City Life 2008. But I remember what someone from EA said about SimCity Societies. Basically it went like this - If SimCity Societies fails as a release then they will go back and do a SimCity 5 game. I hope that's true.

Oh well, one thing it has going for it is that it should at least be better than Streets of SimCity.

Hey, Streets of SimCity was actually quite fun. Back in the day, I spent countless hours playing that game, just driving around in cities I made in SCURK.

I loved Streets of Sim City. That game was freakin' awesome back in the day. I'm gonna have to dig out the disc over the weekend and play it. :D

Have you at least played the game before saying it's bad? Are you basing your opinion on reviews? It's not Simcity 5 but from what I see, it does not seems that bad.

I'm going to buy it. It's the only way to know.

The only thing I can see from all the video online is that the game seems slow... GFX wise...

To the people who keep buying ****ty EA games: STOP! You're only encouraging them. In fact, I'm so sick of them I've boycotted all of their games.

They've produced some excellent games too, though - so I'm not going to consider boycotting them.

I think your wrong... EA do make some awesome titles, the Need for Speed series since underground for instance, and one of the latest games Skate and The Sims 2(not sure if thats Maxis)... Just some of the great titles.

Well, i've been playing Societies for a couple of hours now and it's nice. It's NOT SimCity 5, but it's more like The Sims but for a complete City instead of just 1 Sim.

One thing, it's alot easyer than SimCity 4, you can't realy lose in this game. Funding is easy to have when you build the right thing.

You don't need to layout pipes, subway rails, electricity grid,... You do have subway and bus station, but everything else is magic. You don't need any zoning simply because YOU build houses, venues, industries.... (like the landmark in SC4).

You can build a nice, happy City, or the city of "1984" (ie the movie). You can be God or Evil.

It's quite nice, if you enjoy The Sims, you're going to like this one. And I'm happy to say that the GFX are quite nice and not slow. You have a much better view of your city in this one. Far better than SC4.

But it's not SimCity 5. EA should do a sequel to SC4.

Is it just me or do the graphics look even worse than Simcity 3000? At least in 3000 it had more "realistic" graphics (if you can even call it that). Overall, I'm not a big fan of strategy games that use a non-axonometric (non-isometric) projection type.

If I played every game out there without knowing the reviews it gets and just getting the most hyped games, my game collection would be full of very very bad games like Societies. No need to try a game to know its bad.

I'm really dissappointed in Societies...

I'll stick to SC4.

Yeah, I've heard a lot of disappointing reviews for this new one. I have SC4 and absolutely love it since it's a natural progression from the other SimCity games. This new one (not developed by the same guy who originally made the other SC games) is much different.

Plus, maybe i don't have the fastest computer in the world, but the minimum sys reqs for this puppy (CPU-wise and RAM) are pretty high. SC4 smokes on my Athlon 64 3000+ chip and GeForce 8400 GS, but my CPU isn't even fast enough for the minimum of this new one.

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like there's going to be a SC5, since they (EA Games) are steering towards this new 'genre' for SimCity. Oh well, nothing lasts forever I suppose...

    • I'd say the first one failed to be as popular as Apple anticipated, but the easy adjustment here is to make fewer of them next time around. It would only be a "flop" if it isn't possible for Apple to recover the design and factory tooling costs given the number of units sold, which I doubt would be the case. It isn't like no one bought them; it just failed to become the new hot phone of the year.
    • You're right that it does not follow the plain meaning of the word, but in this context, it is a legal term defined in 49 U.S.C. Kind of how "wire fraud" laws apply even if a physical wire was not used. Given that it is codified in law, and it isn't just automotive journalists that don't understand evolving technology, I highly doubt congress would change a well understood term just because technology makes the term slightly less actuate.
    • This is exactly why I keep saying we are not ready for human free self-driving. These little "bugs" are may seem like random one-offs. There was also the Waymo that drove between police with drawn weapons and the suspect they were pointing them at. From a software perspective it is easy to understand how those extremely rare situations may not have been programed for, but that is the point. If AI needs to be told to watch out for every possible contingency, then it can never be successful. There will always be the possibility of a first encounter that the AI needs to understand to avoid.
