Firefox 3.0 Beta 1

Recommended Posts

apparently there are still 700 bugs ish that havent been fixed and 120 ish may still be left in 3.0 final:( they should just push the release date back, i dont wanna have to have for 3.02 to get a stable firefox3. im gunna hold off until rc3 or later to give it a whirl.

There's hundreds if not thousands of bugs in the version of Firefox you're already using, putting a number on it doesn't make it more unstable.

Edit: About page zoom and the new UI, page zoom works depending on the way the page is written, some scale everything larger (so you have to scroll left and right), but some pages just make the elements larger while still fitting to the window width, and the new UI is coming in B2, or so i read.

Wasn't Firefox 3 the major new / uber leet version of Firefox? I don't see anything much new and what is new hardly amounts to a whole version number change.
There lot of changes, lot are under the hood.

I do think that FF3 is more better over FF2 than FF2 over FF1.5

My back and forward (and stop etc) buttons are greyed out and don't work in this build. When I close FF, it goes to 100% cpu and nearly melts my system.

Uninstalling until a new build comes out and just using the RC from the other day (which works fine)

Looks like either the code was messed up or it didn't install correctly for the buttons to not even work.

On a site note, good thing your PC isn't a nuclear reactor

well , I'm currently using more than 15 addons, and they are all without exception incompatible with firefox 3b1.

Have you tired forcing the compatibility?

I'm running the beta, and I've forced most of my extensions to work. Just need to disable the compatibility check and then disable the ones causing the browser to be unusable.

Nightly tester tool - Its not updated for Beta 1, but im sure it will be pretty soon.

or the hard way

type about:config into the address bar. Then right click on the list and add a boolean and name it: extensions.checkCompatibility

Set the value to FALSE, and you should have full access to your extensions. Just weed out the ones that are causing problems.

Just keep in mind that this stuff can cause firefox to become unstable and crash. So handle with extreme care.

    • Absolutely NOBODY has suggested such a conclusion. I am affirming the sober reality check that AV2's overall market adoption will take longer than AV1's adoption rate -- which, by the way, is the whole point of the article! While PCI-SIG is productive (on paper), other WGs have created all sorts of confusing progress plans that consumers have tuned-out of their improvements... HTML/W3C, USB, HDMI, BT, WIFI (ieee802.11) as a few other groups where spec naming conventions, split progress paths, overlapping ambitions... I'm not critiquing the AV specs group; I'm simply affirming that adoption for AV2 faces headwinds beyond the macroeconomics of it all.

    • No thanks! WebView trash is unacceptable. I only use software that's native.
