[Football] England not going to Euro Cup

I am glad England never qualified, simply so we could get rid of that oaf Steve McClaren and so we can take a long hard look at our national side.

Any manager that picks Kieron Dyer and Wes Brown to play at right back instead of Jamie Carragher does not deserve to manage a lower league team, never mind a country!!

not to mention playing lampard + bridge + joe cole, 3 absolute useless players for england!

What happened to Ferdinand? Was he suspended for this game? Another mistake was playing Owen in that friendly. Knowing how injury prone he is, why risk him in such a pointless match.

I think it's great than England didn't qualify. Hopefully, this will shock them back down to earth.

Agree with you all the way. I'm glad we didn't qualify, either. The England team is going downhill, and it's going to just get worse and worse thanks to the influx of foreign players. The FA should start putting a limit on how many foreign players a club can have.

They should also do what they do in rugby, and implement salary caps on the clubs. Footballers are getting paid far too much. Frank Lampard gets over ?100,000 a week, and he only scores from deflections! People should turn to the Championship for players. There is a lot of great talent lurking in there. There's a lot a of Premiership quality players there working for bugger all. A small amount of players there even have 5-figure salaries.

Should have played Robert Green. Also, i didn't realise Lampard was playing until he took that penalty.

Robert Green has been amazing this season and deserved a crack, you know watching last night was like watching the circus that comes into town.

I'm glad they're out. The way they've played and scrapped through their group just shows how useless they are. England should have easily qualified from that group. They should have got rid of McClaren long before England got in this situation.

Lets hope the new coach will give the squad a good clean out and play some players off of merit and not name. Who would i like to see as the next coach? Mourinho or O'Neil.

For me, it slightly diminishes the competition when a team with so many good players exit so fast.

I'm still watching the games though :)

From the list, I would say Hiddink, but I don't think he can leave Russia now.

How about Arsene Wenger, from my favorite team Arsenal. :p

Former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho does not want to succeed Steve McClaren as England manager, BBC Sport understands.

Mourinho, 44, has been out of football since leaving Stamford Bridge in September but is believed to be waiting for a club rather than a national post.

Newcastle boss Sam Allardyce has also said he does not want the England job.

But ex-Real Madrid coach Fabio Capello says he is interested and Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp and Reading's Steve Coppell have not ruled themselves out.

Redknapp would be good choice.

Whoever gets the job should do it his way. Get rid of the "oldboys" and start from scratch. Build a team from the up and coming players. Of course you would have to include some of the current players, but bring more young ones in, and keep them in. Don't use them for one match and then replace them with the older guy just because he is back fit.

The English game is one of the toughest in the world. You read in the papers and online about all these foreign players scoring goals galore in the Brazillian and Spanish leagues, for example. But bring them over here, and they play as though they should be a league below.

And this affects who should be manager of England how?

  • 2 weeks later...
Jose Mourinho would consider the England job if offered it by the Football Association, insists the Portuguese's personal advisor.

Although there has not yet been any official approach for the former Chelsea boss Eladio Parames confirmed Mourinho would take any offer seriously.

'He likes English football, the people, the country and the players,' said Parames. 'It would be an honour.'

'He's not waving his hands in the air, but if he's approached, he'll reply,' Parames added.

'If he were approached he'd consider it, discuss it, negotiate and present his own ideas.'

Monday's newspapers insist that the bookies' favourite for theEngland job has already started work on a blueprint for rebuilding the national side, including completing the construction of the National Football Centre at Burton.

Mourinho has also strongly denied reports linking him with a move to AC Milan and he has always spoken positively, without committing himself, when discussing the vacant England manager's role.

However, the FA are determined not to be rushed, despite the demand from outside forces for a quick decision.

Instead, FA chief executive Brian and director of football development Sir Trevor Brooking are continuing their fact-finding discussions with senior footballing figures.

Although the process has been viewed in some quarters as simply a question of a handpicked group offering an opinion as to who should get the job, the real reason for the talks is to determine what other elements are required to provide whoever is the new coach the best chance possible of being a success.

Brooking spent Saturday afternoon in Staines with Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, who was watching his son Darren's side Peterborough advance into the FA Cup third round.

Ferguson is one of the men who have been identified as being able to provide priceless advice on the job, while another, former England boss Sir Bobby Robson, yesterday used his newspaper column to trumpet the claims of Mourinho.

Fabio Capello is another live candidate, having already declared his interest, while others such as Jurgen Klinsmann, Guus Hiddink, Marcello Lippi and Luiz Felipe Scolari continue to be discussed - as does Martin O'Neill, even though the Aston Villa boss has twice attempted to rule himself out of the running.

One thing is for certain - while some continue to question the attractiveness of the England job, the England team remains a big draw across the globe despite their failure to reach Euro 2008.

While England are without a competitive game this summer, it is still possible a May meeting with old enemy Scotland could be arranged in front of what would definitely be a capacity crowd at Wembley.

However, Barwick is also considering over half a dozen friendly offers received while he was in Durban for the World Cup draw, proving how attractive England still are.

Australia are keen to get England to visit Melbourne, while North America, the Middle East and the Far East are other potential destinations.

Ideally, the FA would prefer to wait for a new manager to be appointed before finalising their plans but the practicalities of the situation may mean that is not possible.

A World Cup fixtures meeting in Zagreb on December 19, when England's precise campaign in a qualifying group containing Croatia, Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Andorra will be agreed, may have an impact depending on who the Three Lions end up facing in September.

    • There might be some passive design improvements (cooling, etc), but I doubt they'd change the core performance spec of the hardware mid-generation when they've already got a new console in development.
    • State of Decay 3 is out in 2027, reveals Plague Nests with new co-op gameplay trailer by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe A few months ago, Undead Labs broke its silence about the third entry in the State of Decay series since its announcement in 2020. Today, the studio had a brand-new trailer to reveal at the Xbox Games Showcase, finally giving players a look at the Unreal Engine 5-powered title. A broad 2027 release window is now attached to State of Decay 3 too. The studio confirmed that every scene seen in the gameplay trailer (except for the studio logo) released today is from the game with no cinematic footage. "The quality bar of the moment-to-moment experience is higher than anything we’ve achieved in Undead Labs’ history," says the studio. "State of Decay 3 is being built in Unreal Engine 5, and we’re creating better quality versions of what makes our game the survival sandbox it is, and the combat experience is really, really important to us, and I think you can see it coming through in this trailer." One new aspect of this upcoming entry is the Plague Nests. These are supposed to be dynamic, dungeon‑like enemy hubs with varied “personas” that change tactics each time one appears on a map. These areas will have the best loot in the game for players brave enough to tackle them. The combat system is being overhauled too, letting players do quick and power attacks depending on the situation. This isn't just on the player's side though, as zombies themselves now have multiple new types of behaviors depending on how fresh or decayed they are. "All of these play very differently, especially as you start getting outnumbered or when you’re making noise and running around and trying to save your rear end or the rear end of your friend next to you," adds the developer. Of course, settlement building and community management are massive parts of this third entry too. These are being further expanded with the cooperative focus, giving players much more freedom for playing together than in State of Decay 2. Players will even be able to split up and build settlements in different areas of the same map with different goals. Undead Labs confirmed that playtests are already ongoing for the title, and interested players can sign up to participate by heading over here once more slots open up ahead of the full release. State of Decay 3 is coming out on PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Game Pass sometime in 2027.
    • Doom: The Dark Ages Revelations expansion gives the Slayer a brutal Chain Spear by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Last year, id Software released Doom: The Dark Ages as a prequel to its reboot series, offering a look at the legendary Slayer character during an ancient war between Hell and Heaven. Today, at the Xbox Games Showcase, id Software returned with a new announcement that unveiled Doom: The Dark Ages Revelations as its first story expansion. The expansion will see the Slayer being betrayed and cast into a "merciless purgatory only escapable by confronting haunting truths." Somehow, there is one ally in all this chaos seemingly attempting to help our protagonist escape his fate. Players will be ascending this prison and fighting plenty of new demons and abominations as they work to free the Slayer's followers. One new aspect of the expansion will be the Chain Spear. This new weapon is described by the studio as a "uniquely satisfying combat system that rewards mastery with a potent combination of power and mobility." Check out the trailer below to see the new weapon in action, where the Slayer is seen using it to even pin enemies to walls. id Software is also preparing a free update to all owners of Doom: The Dark Ages that will land alongside the new paid expansion. Dubbed the Ripatorium 3.0 update, this will add more customization options, an improved pass code generation system, and preset options for players diving into the game's arena challenge mode. Expansion buyers will also receive additional maps, demons, and new weapons to use in this mode in addition to the story levels. Doom: The Dark Ages Revelations expansion is out on July 7 across PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5 with a $19.99 price tag. Those who own the Premium Edition or the Collector's Bundle will receive the expansion for no extra cost as well.
    • Hyped for this. Replayed the remasters recently and they're so well done, and Crash 4 was great too. I trust this team to deliver.
