Terminator Salvation : The Future Begins

Recommended Posts

ComingSoon.net is reporting that the new Terminator film, which has until recently been titled Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins, is now title-less.

The film, with McG directing and Sam Worthington and Christian Bale starring, is due out in May 2009, so there's still quite a lot of time to come up with a new title (say, Terminator 4), and frankly practically anything would be more convenient than the apparently nixed Salvation: The Future Begins idea.

^ I don't care what they call it as long as Bale is in it and McG doesn't charles angels it up. I'll be fine with w.e they call it.

Btw Rappy, you best post those summer bikini pics you were talking bout in the other thread. Like with pokemon, gotta catch em all :)

 a quick search on Google will find them just search "summer glau bikini" and you will see them.

They don't need Arnie, but I think a cameo would be very cool. I know he isnt in shape but a head shot or something even if it's just of a machine being built and all it does is lay there motionless.

Anyway hopefully they don't screw this up. I never wanted a future movie to be honest, I've always thought the prevention of the war was what the series was about until the douches stomped over that message that one can control their destiny in the 3rd. I have faith in Bale but one actor won't save it if they write crud so lets see.

Oh man, I hope this article isn't true. http://filmdrunk.com/post.phtml?pk=1361

Look who they are thinking of casting as Kyle Reese...

Christian Bale as John Conner, superb. Anton Yelchin as Kyle Reese, incalculable failure.

McG?s ?T4?, which was in active pre-production for a May 2009 release, may have been shut down by Warner Brothers. According to my source, a crew member was recently overheard discussing his newfound free schedule due to the production shutting down.

Terminator 4?s cast includes Christian Bale as John Connor, Anton Yelchin as Kyle Reese and Avatar?s Sam Worthington. No word yet on how official this is, although I expect an official announcement soon.

I don?t see this as bad news. While I?m not necessarily a McG-hater, I just wasn?t feeling this. The saga has been driven into the ground at this point and needs to be terminated altogether. I?d rather hear that they?ve shut down to regroup and make this the best it can be rather than have it fast-tracked and half-assed. Although, if it were my judgment day, this production wouldn?t have even gotten as far as it had.

Moon Bloodgood Joins Terminator4 Cast

You may have heard stories last week that McG's Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins was being canned. Well, we're going to have to assume that rumours of the movie's demise were greatly exaggerated, since it's still adding to its cast. Moon Bloodgood is the latest to join the killer robot flick.

Bloodgood, whom you may remember from Pathfinder and who will also feature in the upcoming Street Fighter movie, will play, according to The Hollywood Reporter, "a no-nonsense and battle-hardened member of the resistance".

The film, which also stars Christian Bale, Sam Worthington and Anton Yelchin, is set to start shooting in May.

Salvation becomes a PG-13

The "Terminator" will indeed be back -- but this time with a more kid-friendly rating.

As production starts today on "Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins," the next installment in the action franchise, producers at the Halcyon Co. say they aim to deliver a PG-13 movie to Warner Bros. for release on May 22, 2009.

The "Terminator" series is one of the highest-grossing R-rated franchises of all time, with the first three films having grossed more than $1.03 billion worldwide. But Halcyon producers thought it was time to broaden the upcoming fourth film's audience base, and they believe the PG-13 won't compromise the series' gritty vision.

"The ratings have changed," said Halcyon co-founder and co-CEO Victor Kubicek, a broker-turned-writer-producer. "The PG-13 has increased in intensity."

Move follows last year's "Die Hard" film, "Live Free or Die Hard," which went out with a PG-13 after three prior R-rated installments. That pic went on to gross $382.1 million worldwide, making it the highest-grossing in the series.

A family-friendly rating opens many doors, including a "Terminator Salvation" licensing deal for action figures with Playmates Toys.

Set in post-apocalyptic 2029, an adult John Connor, played by Christian Bale, leads the war to save humanity from the killing machines.

Signing Bale, who also stars in the current "Batman" series, was a huge coup. Sam Worthington, who fronts franchise creator James Cameron's upcoming "Avatar," also stars. The Terminator role is still under wraps; speculation centers on Josh Brolin.

27089.jpg

Common ? the rapper-turned-actor-but-he?s-still-a-rapper-too ? has signed on to co-star in McG?s Terminator Salvation: This Can?t Possibly Be That Bad, Because Christian Bale?s In It, Right? (Or whatever the title actually is).

It?s about time, frankly, that we heard some more casting news on Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins (ok, ok, that is the real name), because the movie actually started filming the other day, and all we knew was that Bale had signed on to play John Connor, with Avatar star Sam Worthington inked to play the film?s nominal lead, Marcus.

So it?s good to see that McG is filling out the cast. Common ? who had been cast to play the Green Lantern in the Justice League Of America film before its plug got pulled ? will play a member of Connor?s inner circle of freedom fighters.

Of course, we?re still waiting to see who?s going to play the Terminator in the movie, which will likely be PG-13. An offer was reportedly made to Josh Brolin, but nothing concrete has yet been heard.

We?re also guessing that McG and his writers, John D. Brancato, Michael Ferris and (a name that gives us some hope that this might not be the suckiest Terminator film since Ernest Saves Skynet) Paul Haggis might crowbar a love interest in there, so we expect an actress to be announced soon as well. (For example, what happened to Kate Brewster, the character played by Claire Danes in Terminator 3? Is she still alive?)

We rate Common as an actor ? he was one of the best things about Smokin? Aces ? and so his addition to the cast is a good thing. What do you think, readers? Is your opinion slowly turning round on the most controversial McG-related project since the US remake of Spaced?

I personally never liked Bale in Batman, but I think that was a dislike of the film as a whole rather than Bale. For me, Batman was Michael Keaton in the two films he did as the Dark Knight - I didn't expect the new Batman to be a 'rewrite' sort of thing.

However, I agree that Bale is a superb actor. Watched the Prestige recently and was completely suckered into it. I like the sound of this rumour a lot.. bodes well for a worth successor to T1 and T2!

Maybe they could work Arnie in somehow that he was a human that was used by Skynet to model its droids on. Like someone who is part of the resistance who works with Connor, that is captured early on and experimented on and subsequently used as the 'mold' for the Terminator. Far fetched but I think Arnie deserves to be written into the story somehow.. he really owned the Terminator role as far as i'm concerned.

They did this in T3 ,you need to get the T3 on HD-DVD and watch the deleted scenes.I just hope it is also in the Blue-Ray versions.

Christian Bale is to play rebel leader John Connor in three sequels to the Terminator franchise, its producers have revealed.

The Welsh-born star, who is soon to be seen in Batman Begins sequel The Dark Knight, has already started shooting the first of those films, Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins.

"He's really an actor's actor, so we're very proud," said Victor Kubicek of film company Halcyon.

Charlie's Angels director McG is directing the new film, which is due to be released on 22 May 2009.

Send your questions to the Terminator producers

"Christian was our first choice and he's a big fan of The Terminator, so we're very lucky," Kubicek told the BBC at the Cannes Film Festival.

"But with Batman he's already done the whole franchise thing, so we weren't sure he'd respond."

Luckily, said Kubicek's business partner Derek Anderson, "he read the script and he loved it, so he's signed on for all three."

US rap star Common will also have a lead role in the film, as will Australian actor Sam Worthington, who will soon be seen in Titanic director James Cameron's science-fiction epic Avatar.

The producers would not reveal whether Arnold Schwarzenegger would reprise his role as the Terminator. Nor would they discuss character names or plot details.

"We can't talk about the story points at all," said Kubicek, adding the project was being kept strictly under wraps.

"Not everyone gets to see the script. They only see the part of the script that's relevant to the job they're doing."

But the producers promised not to disappoint fans of the time-travelling franchise, which has also spawned TV series The Sarah Connor Chronicles.

"We're both huge Terminator fans and we're just approaching it from the point of view of what we'd like to see," said Anderson.

"Any time we're feeling pressure we just take a step back and say, as fans, 'what would we like to see?'"

British actress Charlotte Gainsbourg has been cast as Kate Connor in Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins.

The character is the wife of John Connor (Christian Bale), who leads the human resistance against Skynet's Terminator machines.

Gainsbourg (21 Grams, I'm Not There) joins a cast that includes Sam Worthington as Marcus Wright, Anton Yelchin as Kyle Reese, Moon Bloodgood as Blair Williams, Common as Barnes and Jadagrace as Star.

Filming is currently underway in Albuquerque, New Mexico with McG directing from a script by Michael Ferris and John Brancato.

Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins director McG has kicked-off a production blog on the official website for the film with this message and a first look at preliminary concept art for post-judgment day Los Angeles.

2vtbdyf.jpg

We?ve officially started principal photography on Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins. Like you guys, I?ve been a long-time fan of the series and I understand your passion for the Terminator movies -- and it?s my full intention to deliver a film that lives up to the previous three installments. I?ve spent time with James Cameron, spoken to Arnold Schwarzenegger, gone over the story with Jonah Nolan, and enlisted Stan Winston.

Everything we?re shooting is designed to be tactile and real, you?ll be seeing a whole set of inspired designs you?ve never seen before, and best of all you?ll finally get to see some of the post-judgment day future that was only hinted at in the previous movies.

John Connor will be pushed to the brink. And for me, Christian Bale embodies Connor?s strength and tenacity perfectly. And after visiting Sam Worthington on the set of Avatar, I know he?s perfect for his role.

As you know, Anton Yelchin is playing Kyle Reese, and his prep has been unbelievable. The guy's been watching all three Terminators incessantly and he?s definitely going to capture the essence of the character Michael Biehn created in Cameron?s first film.

We started principal photography with a sequence at Griffith Observatory. I've already seen a cut of it -- Anton and Sam are excellent. I?ll have more on that soon, and can?t wait to share some of what we?re doing with you all. Stay tuned for more.

McG
