Some Hayden News (does contain spoilers)

Heroes star Hayden Panettiere has hinted that she is taking on two characters in the next series of the hit show.

The actress -- who plays sweet-natured cheerleader Clare Bennett in the NBC sci-fi drama -- says that her character takes a nasty turn in future episodes.

She reveals, "We have received the scripts for the next season and everyone is so excited about it.

"It has some really, really great storylines and a couple of us get to play two different characters.

"For a second we go between present and future. The characters are very different. Maybe good and evil too."

Some Set News

It was a lot of fun hanging out with Hayden and her assistant Carrie in the trailer. Plus, we also got to say hi to some of the other stars of the show... Milo came in with a bullet stuck in the back of his head and he had to wash really hard to get all the blood of his body. He and Hayden were very friendly, not that you need me to confirm any of the rumors.

Next, Ali Larter walked in with her throat slashed open, it looked very real and gross. Hayden joked that although she gets hurt the most she doesn't get as bloody. Everyone was a lot of fun, constantly joking around and laughing.

When Hayden went on set to shoot her scene, we were directed to a set of monitors to watch the action take place. They did her scene about 5 times (all were flawless) and when it was a wrap, Hayden took us to another corner of the studio: Claire's living room (as seen on the show!) for a cozy interview.

E! speaks to Milo and Hayden

Bwahaha! The Villains are coming! This season on Heroes the bad guys are multiplying like bunnies at the Playboy Mansion, and Claire Bennet (aka the Cheerleader, aka Claire-Bear, aka Hayden Panettiere) and Peter Petrelli (aka Jess on Gilmore Girls, aka Milo Ventimiglia) themselves were on hand at tonight's NBC bash to share a little scoop...

Click in to find out what's tramautizing Claire this season, what's worse than Sylar on the big-bad front, and what big change is in store for the younger Petrelli brother...

About Those Villains... According to Milo and Hayden we're in a world of trouble with these new villains. Hayden said, "There's many things much worse than Sylar (Zachary Quinto)." He's a tough act to follow, but OK. And Milo said, "I think everybody [this season] is confronting something worse than Sylar. It's something that is going to strike a chord and be close to Peter, what this big obstacle in the road is...[because] it's a threat to everybody, it's a threat to everything. I'm not going to say it's four horsemen or one horseman, but there's gonna be a power that comes in that everybody has to kind of band together to make sure it doesn't run wild."

Band from TV: Speaking of banding together, Hayden said that the original cast will be sharing lots of screentime, "A lot of us are working much more closely together?the main cast?which I think is what the audience missed about second season, and I think what we missed about second season?that we didn't really get the chance to work with each other. We're all crossing paths this season." Can I get a hell yes?

Hands Off the Cheerleader! Hayden hinted at a big bad that deeply affects our Claire-Bear and changes her future forever, saying, "Something happens to [Claire] that's actually quite frightening to her and it plays a big part into who she becomes in the future and what happens to her. I wish I could babble about it now, because I have a lot to say about it, but I can't. But it's something, yes, that manifests further about her ability that weighs heavily on her emotionally, and mentally, as a person. And I think it would [weigh on] anyone who would be going through a situation like that...I think Claire plays a very important role in what happens, and in that way she can be worse than all of them." She also said her character's fate, "Future Claire's very different, and it's a very different world. It's kind of, as you can imagine, a world gone a little bit awry. She's a very different person."

Control+Shift+Peter? Milo Ventimiglia shared a big fat clue about Peter's storyline when the show resumes: "The one thing I can say is that Peter's not quite himself this season...The second season Peter lost himself and the first season Peter was fighting himself, and in the third season, when I say Peter's not quite himself, he's not quite himself." And just between you and me and the fly on the wall, I can tell you that a newly introduced character has something to do with that change...

It's Only a Teenage Wasteland: Seems like Claire's still on the teen rebellion tip this year. The way Hayden explained it was that, "As a teenager, even younger than myself, [Claire is] still going through that turmoil with [her] parents, and she's trying to break away, and she kind of starts to, this season. She's gotten to the point?and I remember getting to this point, too?where you'd ask [permission], but you knew what you were going to do, regardless of what the answer was."

Love Interest for Claire? Remember how I told you West (Nicholas D'Agosto) was almost certainly gone? Hayden all but verified that and even admitted (tacitly, at least) that the fans weren't such a fan of that character. When asked if they were working on any romance for her character this season, Hayden said, "No! Not at all, not yet. I have not read past episode eight, so it could be in the future, I don't know, but I think we tried that and it went...not so much. Personally, I'd rather be interacting with everyone else and be in the core of what's going on and what's going on has nothing to do with relationships like that, so..."

The Harder They Fall: Uh-oh. Sounds like Peter Petrelli might be cruisin' for a bruisin' this season. According to Milo, "[Peter is] the strongest of them all, that's what everybody says, he's the most powerful of them all [and] at some point those guys have to fall." Stupid mythological rules! Can't he just kick ass all the time, like he did in the lab scenes in the finale last season? Because that was flippin' fun.

The Long Con: In addition to the Heroes panel at Comic-Con?which people in the know assure me is a must-attend panel with a special treat in store for us fans?Milo will be doing a panel in support of his new comic book from Devil's Due, created with Mark Powers and Sean McManus. Milo said, "It's a book called Rest, it's a guy who's down on his life who's introduced to an experimental drug that suppresses the need to sleep. It's just a story that's personal to me. I sleep about four hours a night because there's so much that I have going on in my life, and there's something that we're always trying to chase, and that's having more time."

Also, Masi Oka told me earlier in the night that they're planning to play the whole first episode of Heroes at Comic-Con. Count. Me. In. (Hope to see you there!)

Time for bed, at least until I get my experimental drug shipment delivered! I'll see you tomorrow for the final batch of TCA funtimes, but in the meantime, post your take on this Heroic dish in the comments!

Speaking to TVGuide.com's Erin Fox at NBC's TCA press tour party, Heroes' Jack Coleman reveals how Claire-Bear will be "kicking a lot more ass" this coming season, and teases an eye-opening run-in for father and daughter.

Adrian Pasdar, meanwhile (and ultimately), talks about the "dark and creepy" tone to the new episodes, one of which sets foot on a most unexpected set.

Guys I can't wait for the third season. I just recently started watching from episode one and now I am halfway through season two. I am a bit disappointed by season 2 though, it doesn't seem to have the pop that the first did, maybe it was just because it seemed like a transitional season.

Still though, with a show as great as this, my disappoint is rather small. :p

When it talks about how Claire shoots Peter and says "I always loved you", I am almost positive that this is due to the following reason. Some of the villians that escape level 5 do so because the big bald headed guy switches places with peter and takes over his body. He somehow puts the other villians inside the heroes' bodies as well so they have to fight within themselves which takes into part the everyone has evil inside them theme.

AHHH!!! cant wait!!! :D

You did notice that it was future peter who she had the gun pointed at, right? :)

    • This got me thinking, would you rather a self driving car prioritise protecting its passengers or everyone else? I'd choose the one that keeps me and my kids safest. At some point, these cars have to make those choices already, don't they? Wonder if we have a way to find out what way they lean.
    • The proportion (or number of iterations) has nothing to with this aspect of Copyright I am describing. In short, it doesn't matter how many times the manager tells you to change something or how. Your work product is always YOURS until and unless you then assign that to the person representing the client/company, usually for financial compensation -- either in salary or as a subcontract work for hire payment. if iterations determined copyright, then businesses would have learned to just keep making changes until they could claim they owned the copyright, without having to compensate the artist for their work. And that would be BAD. The only place where the amount of changes does have a role is in how much does a human modify a previous public domain work (from any source) before it is considered fair use or their own work, etc. For example, if a human makes substantial changes to a public domain (re: AI, by definition) work, then they can then claim that derivative work as their own...but NEVER the original version, of course. That's why anyone can make a movie about Dracula, for example, as long as it is based on the public domain novel, but not if they take new ideas from copyrighted movies made afterwards. As one of the people who personally advised the US Copyright Office on their recent ruling on these very issues, be assured that I specifically used the terminology precisely -- though I made it simple enough for laymen to understand it. If I made this confusing by doing so, I apologize. But, to be clear regarding your assumption that I would agree to your second statement that I quoted above -- the answer is NO. If AI does the work, no matter how much "direction" you give it, it cannot be copyrighted. All AI generated content is in the Public Domain and therefore the copyright cannot be assigned to ANYONE, even you -- until and unless substantial modifications are made to it BY A HUMAN BEING (yourself or a contracted artist/writer/etc.) and then that copyright on the derivative work is legally (in writing) transferred to you. This is a critical distinction. And it is important that people, especially AI sloppers, understand this. For example, YouTube is not paying AI slop generators for the copyright, etc. of their AI slop. What YouTube is doing is sharing AD REVENUE for permission to publish your AI slop. Copyright/ownership/rights never come into it. Importantly, that means that anyone can copy any AI slopware on YouTube, etc. and rehost it anywhere they want, even back on YouTube, and there is nothing legal that YouTube can do about it with regards to copyright protections, ownership, DMCA, etc. Anyone is legally free to use any AI slopware in any way they want. When this ruling was pending, I warned Disney legal of all of this before they did their OpenAI deal -- that it would literally dilute their entire IP portfolio forever. They ignored that warning for the PR and stock bump. But that is why, when the ruling came down last year, Disney quickly extricated themselves from that OpenAI deal, even eating the initial upfront fees -- followed closely by OpenAI ending their entire AI video generating business model. They adjusted their PR release dates to make this less obvious to shareholders, of course. Phew. I hope that this clears up the key distinctions for you and anyone reading. If you have any additional questions or even hypotheticals about AI and Copyright, please feel free to ask.
