Staff
Our staff are mostly from Europe (3 of the 4 Admins) and US/Canada; but the remaining staff groups are purposely split between EU & US timezones to try and cover a 24 hour period.

Site Operations

Administrator
This should be obvious, there are 4 administrators on Neowin, 2 site founders Marcel and Myself, Barney T., as well as our American co-owner Brad Wardell (aka Frogboy).

Development
This group consists of coders and developers for all aspects of behind the scenes work at Neowin, including image creation. This group has exclusive access to our servers.

Forum Operations
Color coded from green.

Supervisor
The Supervisor group was created to take the load off the admins, the staff selected (usually a group of no more than 6) are long term trusted staff. They are given administrator permissions and can make operational decisions without fear of being over ruled by the admin group. This group also has an ops forum and many decisions are talked about and decided between admins and supervisors with the help of developers.

Global Mod
This group is another name for "Super Moderator" meaning that anyone in this group can moderate anywhere including news comments. Most Global Moderators are assigned a section to supervise, where they provide guidance to Moderators.

Moderator
This group contains staff that are usually new to the staff and have been given a specific forum or number of forums to moderate exclusively, they cannot moderate everywhere so we try to keep this group small. They also have permissions to edit News comments. This group includes the Chat Moderators.

News Operations
Color coded from red. News is submitted both in UK & US English, depending on the location of the poster.

Managing / Senior News Editor
Head of the news team. Directs, approves and supervises all news activities.

News Editor
This group can promote news stories submitted by News Reporters to the main page, and is responsible for quality control.

News Reporter
This group submits news to the site, and in most cases is paid per article for the effort. This group is moderated by Editors & Senior Editors.

Non Staff

This is where ex staffers go that have contributed a lot to Neowin. Not all ex staffers go here, if they leave on bad terms or simply did not deliver while on staff then they are instead returned to their previous group.

+Subscriber and +Subscriber?
The people in this group paid for additional privileges and enhanced service, or just to support Neowin financially! You can view our subscription details & pricing here.

+Most Valued Contributor
This group was selected exclusively by the Neowin staff, it is a group of members who the staff felt have been model members and very helpful to existing or new members of Neowin. Requires being a member of Neowin for a year as well as having a minimum of 500 posts.

Hmm, I don't ever remember seeing a Supervisor yet (other than Fred), but I have seen most ever other type on the forums. Thanks for making them so clear cut Neo, this will help many newer users (especially with the newest created class MVC).

If you go to the Forum's main page, there's a legend at the bottom of all possible groups at Neowin.

Those are links and if you click on one of them, a new page will open with a list of all members of that specific group ;)

There are currently five Supervisors :)

Sweet. I've pretty much had a good idea of what they are, but it's nice to see the explanations in writing. For example, I didn't know what kind of power Supervisors had; now I know who not to **** off :p

The supervisors run around but don't post all the time, they still have to do their work. Fred is indeed here the most but Joel (silly_walks) tends to come along once in a while with his dry humor.

I know this is a slightly old thread, but I do have one question about things like this...

What are the user rankings?

in the profile? The profile is any member or staff can go in to a persons profile and rate them. It does get abused a lot imo. may sites have disabled it.

as for those stars, those are based on your post count and the user titles.

Sometimes they show rank as well.

I am asking about the stars, for example 3 = Neowinian3 and 5 = Resident Elite

Oh those are the stats/ "pimps" any site that has ipb or even mybb can create and edit their own. This includes how many stars each person gets.This is something neowin came up with. nothing really, just shows your place on then forum.

Yes, I'm pretty sure he gets it, he's just asking for a list of the titles and how many posts you need to get each one.

There not real, well I'm guessing there not. maybe the av if soe user isn't allowed to change their av, but still, doubtful.

Just people trying to make a point, possibly because they feel that have been treated unfairy by neowin or some Admin.

I personally think it's kinda childish.

      Media Player Classic - Home Cinema 2.7.2 by Razvan Serea Media Player Classic - Home Cinema (MPC-HC) is a free and open-source video and audio player for Windows. MPC-HC is based on the original Guliverkli project (which is no longer maintained) and contains many additional features and bug fixes. As the continuation of the original Media Player Classic, MPC-HC isn’t flashy but it works with nearly any media format. MPC-HC uses DXVA technology to pass decoding operations to your modern video card, enhancing your viewing experience. And MPC-HC supports both physical and software DVDs with menus, chapter navigation, and subtitles. Overview of features A lot of people seem to be unaware of some of the awesome features that have been added to MPC-HC in the past years. Here is a list of useful options and features that everyone should know about: Dark interface Menu > View > Dark Theme When using dark theme it is also possible to change the height of the seekbar and size of the toolbar buttons. Options > Advanced Video preview on the seekbar Options > Tweaks > Show preview on seek bar Adjust playback speed Menu > Play > Playback rate The buttons in the player that control playback rate take a 2x step by default. This can be customized to smaller values (like 10%): Options > Playback > Speed step Adjusting playback speed works best with the internal audio renderer. This also has automatic pitch correction. Then you can open website URLs in the player: Menu > File > Open File/URL You can even download those videos: Menu > File > Save a copy Tip: to be able to download in best quality with yt-dlp/youtube-dl, it is recommended to also put ffmpeg.exe in the MPC-HC folder. Several YDL configuration options are found here: Options > Advanced This includes an option to specify the location of the .exe in case you don't want to put it in MPC-HC folder. Play HDR video This requires using madVR or MPC Video Renderer. After installation these renderers can be selected here: Options > Playback > Output Ability to search for and download subtitles, either automatically or manually (press D): Options > Subtitles > Misc Besides all these (new) features, there have also been many bugfixes and internal improvements in the player in the past years that give better performance and stability. It also has updated internal codecs.       No problems here using the new Outlook. In our company we started to default installing to users on new computers or when we're reimaging. But, if the user needs/ask for the classic one, we install it. Low reject rate at this point.

      Yeah it's my only home/business computer. The Surface Pen magnetic Storage is on the left side, but it doesn't charge the Pen. I do the charging once every 6+ months by interchanging between 2 rechargeable AAAA batteries and charging the other via a USB A battery charger.

      I have NO problem restricting minors having access to apps. Personally, I'd like to see the restriction extend to smartphones too, but that should be the parents anyway. But on the restrictions ? GOOD LUCK enforcing that. Between VPN's, side loading and what not, I'm sure kids will find a way around it.
