This is a bit MISLEADING. After signing up, you have to download the 34 tunecore songs, not your own songs as you expected

since 2006 i believe you have to attach a credit card to your apple ID account which in turn can be used with itunes to purchase music same as purchase items off apple store

Previously you had to add a credit card while creating your account. I had at least a few years back.
