Win9x Patch , you can play XP games and use programs

Early today i played Quake 4 demo, and LA Street Racing and Crash Day. If every program and game that i wanted or tried to play on windows98se works with this patch, well no need to buy XP, my secondary computer will be Vista.

All you have to do is restart your computer, and install the exe file and it patches many files on your computer and allows you to play and enjoy XP games. LA Street racing is a game that i own and i couldnt play it and now i can. Quake 4 ran at 30fps on high settings on my computer. This thing is awesome for win9x users :) :cool:

Yes, i gather people still use windows98se like me. Maybe because they dont feel the need to upgrade. I have been using windows98se for about 6 years now and my computer is still running good, i made some upgrades too it and it works like a charm.

If i wanted to upgrade to XP from windows98se, then my system is able to handle it. The patch is for those who want to play xp only games or programs on thier win9x computers. So far many games seems to work fine and i can run them at good speed, but i only tried one program and fraps didnt work.

I wasn't trying to find any software. I already own some xp games which worked without the patch on win9x. I came across the forum and read the information and install it and now i can play games which only worked on xp on win9x. I was planning to buy Xp, as my secondary computer, but if every game that is for xp works on win9x without any problems, well Vista is my next computer, the secondary one.

I am never going to get rid of win9se, this OS is great and i had it for years and it just got better with the patch :)

Maybe he was one of those 'omg windows xp is gonna flop big time' people, like we have now with vista. Hes just probably waiting for the downfall of xp! Age of reckoning will be among us soon!!

hey buddy, nothing against u, or win9x O.S. user. But hey (I GUESS URE A LITTEL OUTDATED), u have to "try" XP as your main O.S before talk things like that ! No, i`m SERIOUS men, did u use XP in your work, or any place ? them tonight, when u at home using 9x os, don`t u miss cool "features" that XP can offer to u that u dont have or cant use it at 9x os ?

Be very careful about security. God knows what security flaws have arisen over the past 10 years. Are MS still supporting that OS?

You got a patch that works the other way? I wanna play Driver on XP, but it don't work. Worked a treat on 98SE.

Who cares if someone still uses Windows 98SE? I don't use it anymore myself, but I know more than a few people who have recent systems and install 98SE instead of XP and I don't think they're stupid or anything. It's just what they prefer.

Some people act like the world is going to end because some people in the world still use 98SE. It's their system. Let them do whatever they want. There's still mass numbers of schools and businesses that use it so get over it.

WinME is the way to go, it supports new features, Direct X 6.1, and finally you can upgrade to the Windows Media Player 7 that also supports skinning

and yeah Office 2000!

Plus! you get a system restore feature which is really handy!

i left 98se years ago,i was glad to go to xp once it had it's first sp as 98 se would bog down and go slow,if you have an ancient system use 98 but a new one xp is the better one and maybe eventualy vista.

Why download a bunch of patches, some not even by Microsoft, just to somewhat emulate how a more recent, still supported, more secure operating system works? Windows 9x is obsolete. Only way anyone should still be using it is if they have ancient computers.

How much electron waste do you dispense yearly? I happen to put my ancient systems to use. And the patches aren't intended to emulate as they are to enhance. I actually find it good that some of these patches aren't by Microsoft, as I prefer fixes from real world users and not potentially more problems from a corporate giant. It's refreshing to find that people poor their passions into correcting problems that even Microsoft didn't or couldn't catch. Also, if you think about it, since Windows 98 isn't supported officially anymore it's lowered on the radar for targeted systems against security attacks. With more advancements for "more recent" systems comes more bugs and glitches and security vulnerabilities. After all the patching on Windows 98 I'm not sure a statement of "more secure operating system" can be held true in comparison to modern Windows. Why do all this you asked, because sometimes it makes more practical or economical sense or more evironmental sense, or more performance sense, it all depends on the user and their intentions of use.

Anyone using an ancient computer would be far better off with some modern small-factor distro of Linux, than non-NT Windows. ;)

I find that old versions of Windows have better graphical functionality than any of the older linux distros with same sys spec requirements. Most modern linux system have resource deamands on par or higher than XP or Vista.
