Disney World Restaurant Bans Children

Recommended Posts

ORLANDO, FL (AP) -- The home of Mickey Mouse, Tigger and Tinkerbell has banned kids from its fanciest restaurant.

Beginning this week, children under 10 are no longer welcome at Victoria & Albert's in the Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. Victoria & Albert's is Walt Disney World's only restaurant with an AAA five-diamond rating.

''We want to be the restaurant that's available for that adult experience,'' said general manager Israel Perez.

Only about three families a month ever brought young children to Victoria & Albert's, said Rosemary Rose, Disney's vice president for food, beverage and merchandise operations.

Men are required to wear jackets, and women must wear dresses or pantsuits. The hushed atmosphere features live harp music, and the menu, which changes daily, offers seven-course dinners that can last as long as three hours. Prices start at $125 a person.

Rose noted that there are plenty of dining options for families at Disney, which World has 97 other full-service restaurants.

Thats useful at a kids resort but still :p

I know you're from the UK, but you have Disneyland Paris over there.

WDW (or any Disney resort) is not ALL for kids.

There are dozens of rides that children can't go on (height restrictions). There is Pleasure Island which has nightclubs/dance clubs/bars/comedy clubs. There are upscale resorts, there is a wedding pavilion, four golf courses, a military resort, boat cruises, spas, workout centers, and dozens of other adult oriented activities.

Then there is Victoria & Albert's. It is the ONLY resort on property with a dress code. One restaurant out of 98 that doesn't serve children is hardly a bad decision. V&A is the upscale of upscale. They serve those dishes that you see on Food Network that are done by the world renowned chefs.

And that 98 number doesn't include the hundreds of quick service food stops around the resort. The 98 is only the sit down restaurants.

If you want to say its 'a kids resort' go ahead, but the only person you are hurting is yourself from an experience you can't get anywhere else in the world.

@ $125 a person why the hell would you even take a kid under 10 in anyways? It would be a complete waste.

More like double that plus tip most nights. The $125 you will only find during the slowest guest flow of the year. V&As books 18 months in advance, and is nearly always full, so what they charge seems to be worth it.

But more than the cost, children more than likely won't like what they serve anyway. Its not 'common' food, and since most children are picky, they will probably not like it.

LOL, who's going to go for a fancy 7 course meal at disney world, that doesnt make sense :p

"Get dressed up nice tonight dear, im taking you out for a meal at a fancy restaurant!"

*couple gets there*

"disney world?! are you kidding me?!"

Ok, I've had supper in the CN Tower. That was plenty expensive ($50 per person + drinks + tips, was about $150 total). I couldn't see going to a place that charges $125/person ... but for 7 courses, and 3 hours ... well ok. MAYBE... MAYBE if you really wanted to "wow" your girlfriend, who's father was Bill Gates or somthing.

    • Ridiculous claim that the labor cost difference of $6000 annually would increase cost per phone by $200. The employees produce 3 phones per month or what?

    • And I just bought a seat cushion for my mesh chair. The chair feels nice but the first time I sat in it with boxers, I realized I don't like the feel of mesh on my legs. 😂
