Devil May Cry 4 gets achievements on PS3

by Ross Miller Jan 7th 2008 3:15PM

The German version of GamePro (via NeoGAF) has published its review of Devil May Cry 4 and revealed some interesting features for the PlayStation 3 - namely, achievements. Similar to the Xbox Live counterpart, you'll be able to perform certain actions and earn recognition, which can then be seen by your friends.

From what we gather, this is only for DMC4, however, and not a console-wide feature, so don't expect to start bragging about your PSN gamerscore anytime soon. The idea of PS3 achievements, rumored once to be called entitlements, were denied by Sony leading up to the console's launch. The review also confirmed Sixaxis functionality in the form of tilting to adjust the camera, and noted a 5GB required installation before you can play the game. The 1UP podcast this week also confirmed this, saying it took 25 minutes to complete the installation process, so don't expect to play the game as soon as you get home from the store.

Edit: They added some more explanation on the 5Gb installation.

From hands on with the game the install is necessary and takes around 10 minutes but after that the load times are basically non-existent. An option would've been nice though.

wow... is this the first console game in history that has to be installed to be played?

I think Final Fantasy XI Online was probally one the first to require an installation to play? To the 5Gb, it is alot but GT5 (even prologue) also need to install that much just to play it (a touch over actually). I have a feeling we'll be seeing more games needed that much space, lucky Sony made it easy to upgrade the HDD!

EDIT: PureLegend beat me too it, I'm too slow

25 minutes oh my god!!. Why should I do? Now my XBOX360 friends will be 25 minutes ahead of me in the game. Oh noes!!

Why the hell you have to bring 360 on this, it?s not the matter which console is going to play first. It's the time you have to sit to install it, that?s why I went from PC to console to get out of that chain of installing and update sh-t. I really don't want to do that in the console too may be for a min is fine but installing 5 gig is pretty much the same as PC.

How original!

And this installing games thing is a joke, how much longer is the wait going to be in a few years, and we're only a year into the PS3's life. (N)

Oh, please. Even some PC games now can play straight away while installing (ie. Halo 2 PC) A console shouldn't have to have a long wait to 'install' (It shouldn't have to install anything IMO). That's the point of a console.
