Wasn't this pinned?

I agreed with Munky to unpin the thread as I never made a new guide. Most people around here know about UMS so I didn't really think the topic needed to be pinned until I/someone else maybe made a PS4 guide? (once DLNA is added). Thing is it'll probably work 1:1 the same as the PS3 anyway :p

Years ago PSMS/UMS were harder to use, and weren't always good at transcoding, now it really is just install, and play. Not much need for a guide IMO.

In fact the guide was originally made for MKV2VOB!

Sorry, that's my fault. AB and I spoke via PM if he had plans to upload a new version of the guide or create a new one. If you guys still want to make use of this topic then we'll keep it pinned :)

@AB, I hope you don't mind but I remembered you posted the guide to another forum and I have copied it back to the OP. It's not perfect, as Neowin as a picture limit (news to me), so I've had to edit the PSP Remote Play section. Hope you don't mind. It's probably not the most recent version you wrote but maybe it'll come in use for someone and will at least be archived now.

That's an ooolllldddd guide :P Ah well, nostalgic reasons and all that! Sony better have DLNA support in this months rumoured PS4 FW.

Yeah I figured it would be. As you say though, it's more straight forward now than it was to begin with (Y)

If it actually works, I might have a reason to start using my PS3 again for something other than a dust collector!

It works great, simply passes AC3 audio straight to your receiver like with DTS. I guess if you have any cinavia protected MP3 audio content you'll simply need to transcode to AC3 before playing - Not that the transcoding matters audio quality wise here, if you're playing an audio track in MP3 I'm going to guess it's a 'cinema' copy ;)

Guess I'll have to wait til it makes it into a normal build to see if it works with my awful setup.

I'll upload my build just now!

Here (has the cinavia AC3 removal) - https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/10631352/UMS.exe

Thanks for the upload. Now time to acquire some media with cinavia on it. :shifty:

Definitely works. Only reason it wouldn't is if your home receiver somehow picks up on cinavia? (don't even know if there are any that do).

Seen DirtyLarry around NW again, I'm sure this will make him happy!

Well that's the reason I called it my "awful setup." I don't have any of the fancy dodads to send the signal to my TV, It's literally just my PS3 plugged directly into an HDMI port on my TV. Then once I found out about all this cinavia junk, I darted through the internet trying to find a fix for the PS3 (a setting or workaround for the media) and found nothing that worked. Scraped together enough money to buy a used WD TV Live that ignores cinavia just to watch anything and it was smooth sailing from then on out.

So if all of this works, It'll be nice to have a reason to use my PS3 again and go back to making the coverart thumbnail things to make it look nice. If not, WD TV here I come.

If receivers picked up Cinavia they'd refuse to play back nearly any Bluray.

Cinavia is meant to be triggered at the 'source', the player decoding the file.

Ah right! I had an update for my Panasonic receiver to remove cinavia but I didn't click till know it will be in regards to the in-built media/blu-ray player.
