Report of the Preview that was shown to reporters!

The preview began with a screening of the latest trailer, which showed scenes of Kirk and Spock as children and Eric Bana as Romulan villain Nero.

Abrams then introduced the first excerpt, in which "farm boy" Kirk gets into a bar brawl with four Starfleet officers.

Kirk is subsequently seen being smuggled on board the Starship Enterprise on its maiden voyage by doctor Leonard "Bones" McCoy, played by Karl Urban.

A third scene introduced Pegg's character Montgomery Scott, while a fourth revealed some effects-laden footage from the film's finale.

Other familiar characters featured included communications officer Uhura, played by Zoe Saldana; Hikaru Sulu, played by John Cho; and Pavel Chekov, played by Anton Yelchin.

Bruce Greenwood plays Commander Christopher Pike, captain of the Enterprise, who is shown at one point exhorting Kirk to follow his father's example and enlist in Starfleet.

In his scene, meanwhile, Nimoy's Mr Spock is seen delivering the Star Trek legend: "Live long and prosper."

It's nice to see that the Enterprise is still made of plastic...ahem.

It looks horrible. What were they thinking with that secondary hull and those huge nacelles? They should have used Matt Jefferies original design.

I agree, I think its very cool.

And as they have said, the film is for the general populous, not explicitly Star Trek fans.

So they will want to give everything a more fancy looking style.

The Original one or something based really heavily on the original, at least the one in TOS would look a bit silly with the new fangly look they are giving the film, at least in my opinion.

Agreed. The new design appears to be better and more modern than the old one. Anyway, only 2 more days remain until the release of a trailer to the general public.

I know this trailer I have now watched 4 times in a row, its nearly beaten the 6 times I watched Watchmen in a row.

Then either us Canadians got shafted, or the city I live in is crappier than I thought it was. At least that bootleg is pumping me up for the film.

Talk about completely going away from the Star Trek plot line the first few seconds I thought perhaps the trailer was for another movie. Oh well I guess things change as time goes on as they need to keep the younger audience interested.
