Hi, firstly im sorry if this isnt the right place to post this or if anyone can help me, but Im looking to get a new camera and to be honest really havnt got a clue. I was considering getting this one http://www.jessops.com/Store/s47076/0/Digi...alse&comp=y

Anyone out there know if its any good? I dont really want to pay anymore than that, I was looking at some other semi SLRs (the guy in the shop recommended an olympus) but as they were the same price and some more than this one, I thought this looked the better deal as I can always upgrade the lenses etc.. All a little baffling though so any advice, tips will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

hey, a nikon d40 is a great camera for beginners, i would recommend you get it.

incase you're thinking about a d40x, there's no point, the difference is so little, and its not worth it for the extra mega pixles.

if you want something more advanced, maybe go with a canon 400d

also you may want to buy your camera form the internet, (ebay stores in your country are good, none of that hong kong ****) buying from stores will cost you over $100 more.

If that's the highest you can go for, then I would go for it.

D40 is an excellent choice and will give much better IQ and iso performance than any point and shoot. (any DSLR will actually) Shutter lag is also pretty much non-existant in SLRs, you'll appreciate how you can snap away shot after shot without lagging and waiting for the camera to get ready.

If you can, try and find a D50 which is a better choice (probably cheaper too) imo with 5 AF points and of course a built in focus motor. (allows autofocus with Nikkor AF lens). There's no AF motor in the D40/D60 line and thus you'll need to buy AF-S or AF-I lens.

    • Wow, spoken like a true blind hater, you don't even provide arguments. Please, go check my comment above to @seacaptain and you'll find out why what you say doesn't make sense in this context...
    • Get used to this, with AI tooling now uncovering new vulns and getting them exploitable far faster than has ever been possible before software is going to need to be updated far more frequently. Back in the day it may take reseachers weeks or months to do what AI can now do in hours. Once its a threat is discovered it's weaponsized far more quickly, meaning you simply can't be waiting 2, 3, 4 weeks to deploy a patch, it needs to be patched immediately. Going to be interesting handling this in the enterprise space where traditionally patching has been steady, but very staged (and rightly so up until now), that is going to have to change.
    • You don't need to "close all browser sessions constantly" or wait for updates to install. The updates download in the background while you use the browser, without interrupting you, they install automatically the next time you launch the app. And they install very fast (depending on your storage speeds, of course), you have to wait at most 2-3 extra seconds, if any. Seems like you haven't used Edge in a loooooooong time...
