Vista SP1 Refresh and directshow FLAC codecs

Recommended Posts

Been trying build 6001.18000.080118-1840 and whilst everything seems great I have noticed that non of the directshow FLAC filters seem to work (with WMP 11). Tried oggcodecs, coreflac and madflac but non allow WMP 11 to play FLAC... worked fine before. Winamp still plays FLAC so its hardly a big deal. Just wondered if anyone had any suggestion to get it working...

Ok I'll go with madFlac available here:

http://madshi.net/madFlac.rar

Trying to play a FLAC file in WMP11 results in "Media Changing... Acquiring Codec... Codec Aquired" then an error message which reads:

"An audio codec is needed to play this file. To determine if this codec is available to download from the Web, click Web Help."

It doesn't work in GraphEdit.... it gives this error

An invalid media type was specified. (Return code 0x80040200)

any ideas?

Thanks for replying.

I think it was due to installation error on my part. I'd installed WMPTagSupportExtender before I'd installed any FLAC filter which seemed to upset Windows Media Player. I managed to get it working using FFDShow and madFLAC. Since then I've reinstalled and just used oggcodecs as I usually do. Seems to work just fine now.
