I didn't--I looked it up. :) (http://photozone.de/)

To technically calculate the ratio, you'd need to measure the object being captured and then measure it on your sensor/film.

1:2 means that an object is captured on the sensor at 1/2 size. If it were 0.5" in length in reality, it forms an image on the of .25".

So...I had to cover for unexpected expenses. I spilled water on my eight year old Pioneer Elite AV receiver and it got ruined. I've purchased a new one (also a Pioneer Elite) along with a Sharp Blu-ray player! I've been playing with these toys all this time instead and today I have finally placed an order to satisfy my photography needs. Here's what I've got:

Canon EOS 40D SLR Digital Camera

Canon 100mm f/2.8 USM Macro Autofocus Lens

Canon ET-67 Lens Hood

Canon 58mm Haze UV-1 Glass Filter

Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro DF

General Brand 82mm Circular Polarizer Glass Filter

Tiffen 82mm UV Protector Glass Filter

Sandisk 4GB Extreme III CompactFlash Card

total $2346.33

Plus I will have to pay around $300 more for custom fees and brokerage commission. The shipment is coming from http://www.bhphotovideo.com/ to Canada, but it's still a lot cheaper than buying locally.

I know the filters are mediocre by professional standards, but I just couldn't squeze anymore cash. Nevertheless, I am extremely happy with the purchase! Finally it has happened! :woot:

Thanks again, giga, for your valuable advice!

p.s. camera bag, lens pouches, a tripod, and a Speedlite 430EX will have to wait. Hopefully, I'll complete the set by the mid-summer.

When you get a bag, be sure to make it a Domke. They are great and very inconspicuous. http://www.tiffen.com/displayproduct.html?...itemnum=700-30D I've got that one on order after seeing my friend's. I didn't even realize it was a bag for his camera until he opened it up!

Also, I can't speak much for the Sigma 24-70mm, but Canon's L-series version of that is quite awesome:

No doubt that Canon's 24-70 L is a great lens, but at this point, I coulnd't justify paying almost triple for it.

FINALLY!!! For two months I have been waiting for this! My toys have just arrived!

I ended up changing the order a bit. I ordered Sigma 150mm instead of Canon 100mm. I also upgraded the filters. I got B+W UV MRC for Sigma 150mm and Hoya UV HMC Super and Hoya Polarizing Filter for Sigma 24-70.

Now about the important stuff.

Could anyone tell to me what I can do to test the sharpness/performance of these lense? I will try to simulate the shot and I will upload the results here so you guys can have a look coz I'm a total noob at troubleshooting the lenses.

TIA!
