I saw some comments on Digg about "this is pathetic, that's the last time I'm clicking on a link to neowin", and that really ruins the fun in all of this.

But what were those comments about? Because of teh downtime?

Hmmm, so that is why the servers were down...

Digg has that much power?

Do you use digg often? Have you heard of the "digg effect"? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digg_effect (it says slashdot effect, it's the same thing). Digg can send THOUSANDS of users to a website within minutes. That's what we experienced today.

Yes it does. I've seen it bring down many VERY popular sites you'd think could handle the load. Some would say the digg effect is worse then slashdotted.

Nice record and its all because of Digg? What was the previous record set for?

Well i think it was 4,8XX not sure exactly tho... Thats why they were saying it's almost double when it was at 6K, then it poped 8K then 9 then was at 10 for a while then went to almost 12.

Digg seems to be the site that tests the servers of sites to the max and most buckle but BBC has never when its been dugg like 4000 times.

I'm guessing its because their pages are light, contain little code and pull the odd thing from a database. Forum software, different kettle of fish.

Yeah plus I think BBC have their own servers.
