Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots Discussion Thread

But each game focused on a different character - MGS1 was Snake, MGS2 was Raiden and MGS3 was Big Boss. Who's the main character in MGS4? Exactly.

When I said you could skip 2 and 3, what I meant was that most of the important details from those games are mentioned in MGS4 anyway, but MGS4 HEAVILY references MGS1 and in ways that aren't directly explained, hence why it's my choice of "if you must play MGS4 but can only be bothered to play one other game in the series, play this one".

I would disagree.

If you had to miss one of the games story lines, I would say 3 would be the easiest to carry on without playing it.

You obviously need the first game out fo any to get the basis, then 2 introduces the new characters and patriots which are like the main part of the series storyline.

Parts of the story line in MGS3 are explained in MGS4 in more detail than say certain things from the first 2 games.

Yep, that's what I was saying earlier. Everything from 3 that you need to know will be explained to you anyway because as Solid Snake, you never knew the details. In 3 you play as Naked Snake (aka Big Boss) and therefore all the information you find out in that game is not automatically known to your character in 4.

Man I really sucks or something. (I think I suck haha)

I cant pass Act 1 without any alert   I think its better to buy the Stealth Camo. I just need like 2,000,000 DP :s

What are you having problems with?

Now I've done the game without any alerts I can give pointers. :p

I'm on the part before you enter the building where Meryl is. I always get alerts in that part. I'm going to keep trying.

Hmm, what difficulty are you doing it on, I did it on very easy to save time, lol.

The map part before it, I run round the side to where there are snipers killing the rebel people, crawled across the ground to the left which took me to an ally I had to lean against a wall to get through.

Once as far north as I could go I would be left of some sand bags and some PMC's just below where the snipers were, you can take them all out quietly if you wish, its what I did for fun anyway.

I took the PMC guys out silently and crawled past them, then you are behind a truck when two guys run past into the alley to the left, I hid behind the truck or on the ground and they ran past then carried on.

If they do get close or you feel the need you can just tranq anyone silently, it makes it easier.

Once at the end of that street usually two guys will come roudn the corner who I tranqed, then tranqed some guard shooting people so I coudl crawl past quietly, then as you carry on you come up to the building you meet Meryl.

There is a fight going on between the two sides that I just crawed past and into the door into the building. :D

One thing to remember to take your time, there is no rush, and its always easier to tranq guards than worry about them.

And always save at the start of each checkpoint if your worried about being found, I got caught numerous times during Act 4, always for silly little things.

Hope it helps in some way, always up for helping. :D

I swear - I just saved at the begining of Act 5 but Act 4 was the most epic gameplay / cutscenes I have ever witnessed in a video game before.. it's just that good .... the whole Vamp/Railgun/Metal Gear Rex/Ray gameplay was phenomenal - I love this game .. I'm excited for Act 5, going to go at it tonight

I was really stupid. I was using the Middle East costume. With Octocamo and facecamo was very easy :p

how do you do face camo? I cannot find the option anywhere?

This is the reason I spoiler tagged the word :pinch:

Others haven't though.

Just keep playing (Y)

Did anyone mention the fact that on the PSN you can download the Metal Gear Solid Database yet?

It is a 77 MB download, and from what i can tell it is just text based, but it has a detailed Encyclopedia and Timeline of all Metal Gear events.

Even better, if you have not beaten MGS4 like myself, it blocks out anything relevant to the latest game until you unlock it.

Ive been reading the Database for almost an hour and is amazing. A lot of information there.

This thread its starting to depress me... :(

I really want to play this game.

:(

Sony might announce a price cut at E3!

Longshot, but here's hoping (Y)

I just picked it up, however I won't have time to play it until tomorrow! Busy with work tonight, as for the MGS Database, can you download that even if you don't have the game (in my case installed yet). I've always wanted to read through the "history" of Snake. :)

When is E3? I call FW 2.40 at E3! :p

I just did. I'm in Europe and downloaded it from the U.S. PSN store. For some reason though it says there's no MGS4 completion save data on my PS3, but there is, I've beaten it twice so far. =/

    • For a guy who claims to hate Farage and the ignorant, gullible, rightwing racist skinheads sponsored by Putin that his lies represent, you sure are quoting them time and time and time again, mate. Denial isn't just a river in Egypt.
    • Do you live in the U.K? Do any of the people here that are against the UK leaving the E.U, live in the U.K? If not then why are you bothered? If you do live here then it is a different thing . Brexit was a good idea, should have done it years before, it was done badly, but the idea was good. You are saying the same thing as remainers do, oh we did what Putin wanted, we listened to the lies and Farage. I hate Farage and never believed most of what he said, certainly did not believe the £350m a week for the NHS. But we did pay a lot of money to the E.U and yes some of it came back, but what is the point of paying it out for only some of it to come back? Get out of the E.U, no money to them and in theory we can use the money to do things in the country. I said in theory, but our governments are a total and complete waste of space. No matter what colour rosette they wear. You and others say it was a mistake and yet the two main parties in the U.K are not looking at rejoining the EU, I wonder why that is? I was not tricked by anyone. Makes no odds now, we are out and have been for 10 years, what we need is a decent government to run the country. All they do is shout at each other like a load of kids and seems to do nothing and make this country more into a police and nanny state. Getting more like China all the time.

    • Yeah... The root of my comment, ostensibly, is how to spin the story via the actual technical merits of the solution! * Decentralized (aka federated) solution with built-in encrypted ephemeral message transport, * Transport via Relays (intermediary servers) with no message archival, * Second configurable pathway are actual email servers (if DNS records are programmed accordingly) via IMAP protocols carriage, * "Chat-over-Email" is the design pattern adopted; it can either leverage full-blown Email Server (must use the INBOX folder) to exchange all received messages/edits/reactions (so be weary of notifications overloads) [best practice is creating a separate email acct used explicitly for federated chat purposes!] or leverage its built-in Relay Server mechanism which actually resides on-device (by default but can be configured otherwise), * By virtue of be a decentralized/federated model, all other intermediary servers who may pass-along messages (while the recipient's final relay/device is inaccessible) cannot snoop on the messages due to the encrypted nature of contents. The intermediaries may, however, analyze the metadata due to the simple fact that routing mechanisms require hints for relay destinations. Unfortunately, whomever is posting about DeltaChat across socials are misleading with "zero metadata" claims -- especially when the Relays (according to their own technical documents) mandate the addition of chat-version metadata and other decorations in order to actually transport any message. -- Based on this summary, I'd prefer if they'd better dual-path message transport (email server add-in, federated relay engine) rather than patch-on email protocols to existing federated social media frameworks. They're frankensteining something rather than extending widely-deployed technology stacks.
