[Official] Grand Theft Auto IV

Remember this is a completely new engine from the previous GTA games, so there isn't really a precedent. In fact, there's a good chance they were developing the game on PC's in the first place, then recompiling for PS3/360 as needed. It's not always done like that, but it's not uncommon, either.

This is VERY annoying. Whenever you do a mission that is 3-4 minute drive away and you die, you basically have to redo the mission from scratch aka go back to the stupid dude, and then drive all the way etc. I find it to be such a hassle so I end up taxi'ing it around... :(

Yeah I wish they wouldve done a few checkpoints..

Cant imagine this game without the taxi feature :o

Guys, I am on the second island and I have so many different people I can go to for work (F,X, D, P, etc.). Which should I not go to so I don't accidentally continue the story line?

Anytime you go to a letter on the map, you continue the story. If you want to do side-jobs for people and such, you can hit their name on the phone and pick 'Job' to call them, or check your email.

I also agree about the taxi feature - very useful.

I got the One Man Army achievement too, by flying over an island I haven't unlocked and then visiting the heart of Liberty City for 5 minutes :p

I finally caved and got GTAIV last night, I figured refusing to buy it cause it was edited was kinda stupid anyway :p. I got the 360 version and while overall I love it, there are a few things I don't like about it. Firstly the choppy framerate is annoying along with the (rather bad at times) "pop in" issue, however, most of the issues happen during daylight hours as at night things are fairly smooth with only minor framerate issues. I run it on VGA (mine is a (fixed) launch console, so no HDMI) @ 1360 x 768 (I think, can't check at work :p) so maybe that is why it doesn't run that smooth? overall I'm very happy with it though and it is quite fun to play

I'm guessing the PS3 was the lead platform right? cause that is how it feels, that it was made for the PS3 and (poorly) ported to the 360, but that is how I feel from my own person experience anyway. Past it's issues it is great (just like NFS:ProStreet...so many people hated that game cause of the endless issues it had, yet I managed to see past that and enjoy it still :p maybe I'm just crazy )

^^^It was actually made on the 360. PS3 development delayed it's launch.

I don't notice framerate issues on mine (VGA, 1280x1020). I do notice popin, but I'm not bothered by it because for one, it's usually more of a 'fade-in' than a pop-in, and second, it's generally only minor things that pop-in at all - things that probably don't need to be there in the first place.

Yeah, that is what makes it easier to tolerate, as it fades into view rather then just appearing out of nowhere. I didn't know it was made for the 360, I always assumed it was made for the PS3, learn something new every day :p

I would say more fade in then pop in. The only time I guess I have really noticed or seen it, has been returning to my Apartment Building and walking up to the bed, to have it not be there for a second and slowly fade it. Not a big issue, I mean if that's the worst issue the game has, you are pretty well off. I'm playing on a 55inch SDTV.

The resolution shouldn't affect the framerate since the 360 has a separate chip just for scaling the output image (The PS3 doesn't, which is why it doesn't support as many resolutions and tends to be game dependant). You shouldn't be having FPS issues, though, the 360 version should stick to 30FPS 99% of the time and only drop a tiny amount every now and then (when a LOT is going on in the scene). The PS3 suffers slightly worse FPS as well.

Yeah, the FPS issues occur mainly during the day when there is alot going on. Overall though, it truly is a great game very happy with it

I have been continually trying to get into a game but I always get "disconnected from game session.." Is some work around to get into multiplayer games??

Also has anyone noticed that on all the posters and screenshots of Niko he is wearing gloves, yet you don't seem to ever get them in game... A minor detail, but a kind of strange thing to be left out.

Thats GTA

You always see lots of stuff that dont make it into the final game ^^

Theres also a picture of an MP5

No, she is just a random character, she isn't in the story. Or at least not as a named character.

Another note, I still cannot play GTA4 online, they really need to patch this. I have tried 20 plus times to join a game and every time I get disconnected...

Works fine for me, and why not try making a room yourself and let others join you instead of you joining them?

Alright, so I missed the Liberty City minute achievement by one hour or so..

Found an old save thats just about to do the the Three Leaf Clover mission for Packie at 17hours30minutes playing time..

Will I be able to finish the storyline in under 30 hours with that save?

Think i was at the 12-13 Hour mark at that point, i completed the game with over 6 hours to spare. So with no sidetracking, you would be able to do it.

Alright, completed it in 23 hours tops :D

Thought I'd point out the topic has reached 100 pages incase nobody had noticed yet :p

Not counting the other GTA thread long before release :D 82 pages long

That thread went really fast when the first trailer was released ^^

Does anybody have suggestions on how to get a quick 6 star rating? I tried shooting the cops etc. and had a long gun fight with them but couldn't get my rating up 5 stars no matter what I tried.

I have all three islands unlocked so I can't fly to a locked one and get a 6 star rating that way.

Any ideas? Thanks!

I think the only way you can get 6 is by visiting a place you haven't been -- not positive, though. Search Google would be my guess. You could just start a new game (not save it), spawn the helicopter with cheats and fly over one of the locked islands if you want.

Keep going. Otherwsie make a new game, run to the bridge that has the train tacks underneath. Run all the way on the train tracks, you'll hit 6 star rating, might take once or twice, but you'll learn where to hit to keep heli from shooting you and any swat from dropping on ya.

Or start a new game spawn a heli (or find one, not sure if cheats affect this one) and fly to an island that's locked and keep flying.

    • Most boring game ever. Repetitive, empty, predictable, and full of cliches. Total waste of time and money, IMO.
    • Mafia: The Old Country expansion Man of Honor announced, brings back Salieri from original by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe During Summer Game Fest, 2K and Hanger 13 brought out a new Mafia: The Old Country trailer, revealing the game's first expansion. Named Man of Honor, this is slated to add two new chapters to the Enzo storyline that the game follows. There is an iconic character returning to the series with this expansion, with players set to run into Ennio Salieri, the future Don of the Salieri crime family. Fans of the original Mafia, or its Definitive Edition remake, may remember that name as one of the biggest characters in the storyline. This expansion is set prior to his rise to being the kingpin in the City of Lost Heaven. "Set in Sicily during the winter of 1905, Enzo Favara has proven himself a reliable soldier of the Torrisi crime family in the months since his initiation," says the studio about the new chapters. "Now, the Don entrusts him and Cesare with a delicate assignment of assisting Ennio Salieri, a man of honor recently released from prison and intent on reclaiming what is his." Working at Salieri's side, players will be heading into fresh environments as they return to the role of Enzo as a high-ranking soldato. The studio also promises brand-new weapons, fresh vehicles, and charms to collect in this expansion. Moreover, the expansion will add new content to the updated Free Ride mode. Alongside new collectibles and locations, this will add more challenges to beat alongside Salieri, which are described as runs that will "test the skills of even the most elite mafiosi." The Mafia: The Old Country Man of Honor story expansion will release on August 14, 2026, across PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. It will cost $10 for owners of the base game to jump into.

    • Telltale returns with The Wolf Among Us, re-revealing the sequel and a new remaster by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Telltale Games, the studio known for its episodic games from the 2000s, had a surprise appearance at the Summer Game Fest showcase today. The studio has gone through a collapse, an acquisition, and a revival but has largely gone silent in recent years. Today's sudden announcement was for the popular The Wolf Among Us series, with news about the sequel and a remaster dropping. Set after the events of the 2013-released title, the sequel will bring back Biby Wolf for a new adventure in Fabletown. This town of fairy tale characters is becoming unstable, with Snow White not being able to keep order as before. "When a brutal series of crimes threatens to fracture the fragile balance holding Fabletown together, Bigby Wolf, sheriff of Fabletown, finds himself drawn into a dangerous conspiracy that reaches deep into the city’s criminal underworld," says the studio. "As suspicion spreads across the city and powerful forces work against him, Bigby must uncover the truth and decide what kind of sheriff - and what kind of wolf - he is willing to become." At the same time, Telltale also announced The Wolf Among Us Remastered, bringing back the classic with a fresh coat of paint. This will include all five episodes from the original game plus over an hour of extra content that will offer behind-the-scenes videos, cast interviews, image galleries, and deleted scenes. The remaster will also have updated visuals and improved UI elements and accessibility features, alongside upgrades to the animations, audio, and frame rates. Telltale has been working on this project for almost a decade now, but if the new release schedule holds, fans will be able to jump into The Wolf Among Us 2 sometime in 2027. As for The Wolf Among Us Remastered, this is slated to release during this holiday season.
