I just got back from a midnight screening of Doomsday. I was pretty hyped for the movie because I thoroughly enjoyed the director's last movie, The Descent.

Doomsday played out almost exactly how I expected it to, a mishmash of Mad Max, Escape from New York, and even some "Medieval-times" period films; homages I read Neil Marshall was aiming for. In this sense he succeeded.

At the same time, this proved to be the main problem with the film, as there was entirely too much going on. Still, it was a fun movie, and I'd say it's worth the $8 if you enjoyed any of the aforementioned films/genres that inspired the film.

  • 4 months later...

Just watched it (got from Netflix). It was just 'eh.' I liked the first few scenes of the movie, then it slowly started to go downhill from there. There was action, but it was all really silly. I had high hopes for this one, but it just fell on its face after a while. How on earth can a scientist, who was supposedly one of the leading scientists in the country, not realize that immune people could provide a vaccine? Come on. The action wasn't all that fun, too... you could see most of it coming from a mile away.

2/5

Just what I said, you must think on madmax 2008.

I enjoy it the movie a lot, the punks, the persecutions, all was funny as hell.

A really good action/fun movie.

Wow, what an absolute joke of a film...

The premise was nothing new, one of a recent spate of British-made apocalyptic virus films - but the cast list included Alexander Siddig, who I really rate as an actor.

However, this film is so full of plot holes that it's just laughable.

But worse is how it doesn't have one original idea of it's own. It rips off:

28 Days Later

V For Vendetta

Mad Max

Aliens

So many more.

Heck, at one point it uses the music from 28 days later!

Steer clear!

Really? Me and the fiancee were literally sat here naming the scenes it just ripped off, and "why would that even happen" comments.

I can see where your coming from with most of the crappy points! but It kept me hooked for 90% and if a film does that then it means I enjoyed it alot but yeah it did have major cheese like when he's singing 2 tribes with the gimp tied up that was like wtf.

I think that the cast was great, the acting overall was above average, but the plot sucked. They put alot of work, effort and money into a complete dud. The virus movies are getting old, since the 90s they've been old. Resident Evil made a comeback, and for that I applaud Mila and the rest of the cast, but it's time to move to another doomsday event. Planet X is a fairly unscathed topic. Just a suggestion.

    • You are clueless. The updates are done in the background so the next time you open Edge the updates are applied automatically. There is no need to close all your tabs. Just keep browsing like you normally do. Clearly you don't use Edge and are just one of those haters that complain for the sake of complaining.
    • I don't get this David. Can you explain it please.
    • Microsoft is busy. Lots of changes to be released imminently for Windows server or soon. Also, lots happening for next version as well. Third party virus scanning software is being moved out of Kernel mode to avoid repeat of Crowdstrike incident. Windows Protected Mode and Windows Ready Print no longer require third party print drivers to be installed. New storage stack being developed. New NVME drivers now available for Windows Server 2025 to improve local NVME drive performance by 60+ percent. NVME-Of of fabric being worked on for next release to improve network access to NVME drives. ReFs (next file system) now has ability to boot and will become default file system in next release of Windows Server. ReFs improves on NTFS in several areas including resiliency and reliability and scalability. New update stack is being worked on to unify Windows updates, and updates for drivers and first party/3rd party application software. A stricter and more robust third-party driver certification program (ODI) is being worked on to improve performance, thermals, battery life, and reliability on modern Windows hardware by tightening how OEMs and IHVs (Intel, AMD, Qualcomm, NVIDIA, etc.) build and ship drivers. There is a tone more but too numerous to mention.
    • Now disable that stupid OneDrive backup request when Windows starts please. So unbelievably frustrating to only have “remind me later” instead of “no and never ask me again”
