saxondale.
I'm looking at being a bit more creative with my shots and from the looks of it, the fisheye lens from canon and sigma seem reasonably priced. I'm eyeing up the Canon 15mm f/2.8. Do any of you use fisheye lenses? If so, what do you use? Any model recommendations? Thanks Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/626619-fisheye-lenses/ Share on other sites
giga Veteran Posted March 20, 2008 Veteran Share Posted March 20, 2008 You won't get a fully "fishy" look with the 15mm since you're on a crop. Really depends on the look and field of view you want. On a 40D cropped from the center: 1. Sigma 4.5mm f/2.8 - Circular Fisheye (Expensive!) 2. Sigma 8mm f/3.5 - Circular Fisheye 3. Peleng 8mm f/3.5 - Circular Fisheye (Manual focus) 4. Sigma 10mm f/2.8 - Diagonal Fisheye 5. Tokina 10-17mm f/3.5-4.5 - Fisheye Zoom Most tend to go for the last two as it's middle of the range budget with decent coverage (no dark edges, but not full 180 degrees on 1.6x crop). Kerm
I'm in the same boat Sax. Looking at the Canon 15mm and Sigma do a 10mm fishy aswell. Also tempted to just get a Canon 10-20mm wide angle and use that for some cool distortion./ Be nice to see some sample shots from people who actually have one of those lenses though..... saxondale.
I use the Canon 10-22mm lens and i can tell you that it's one sweet lens. Such a light lens too, it feels like you're carrying just the body. I'm moving more towards the Sigma 10mm, it's a new lens too, so i haven't been able to find many detailed reviews. I was told that the 15mm on a crop body wouldn't be enough to give you that fisheye effect (obviously depends how distorted you want there to be), so i'm leaning towards the 10mm. Kerm
Ofcourse the Sigma is a whole bunch cheaper aswell. *Edit* Scrap that, the prices for comparison lenses from DigitalRev are; Sigma 10mm F2.8 Fisheye - ? 419.46 Sigma 4mm F2.8 Fisheye - ? 748.46 Sigma 8mm F3.5 Fisheye - ? 390.09 Canon 15mm F2.8 Fisheye - ? 387.74. The 15mm Canon is the cheapest, ha.
