Seven astronauts killed as shuttle shatters

I know i'll probably get bashed for this, but oh well. I'm tired of sitting here and not saying anything.

After seeing this thread, and after reading the comments on the main page, I just have to ask...What in the world happened to compassion and respect for others?

I don't care what country you come from. I don't care what country the astronauts were from. Plain and simple, they died a horrible, tragic death. Those seven people had husbands, wives, children, parents, other family, and friends. Many of those people were out on the runway area waiting for their loved ones to come home. How would you feel if you were one of those people and all of the sudden you were escorted to a private room and told that your loved one's shuttle had just disintegrated over Texas??

These family members and friends are probably just devestated. And here are some neowin members saying "big deal" and who cares "life goes on".

I am NOT saying that everyone should grieve. You don't have to if you don't want to. But for God's sake, if you don't have anything decent to say to one another concerning this subject, then why the hell are you posting at all??

If something happened to one of you this week, or next month, and the rest of neowin found out (say your family posted and let us know, or your girlfriend or something) would you want us to say "Well, I didn't actually post in one of their threads, so who cares! They are dead, so be it, they are only 1 person"?

I don't expect everyone to pray for the families of these seven people, and I certainly don't expect everyone to agree that this is a tragedy. But I think it is WRONG to say "who cares". I didn't know these families, or these people, but it's hard to lose a loved one. And it must be even harder to have to watch it over and over and over again on the news.

Show respect. If you just plan on trolling, and making this tragedy something that it isn't, then DON'T POST!

All you do when you post horrible things about tragedies like this is make yourself look stupid and uncaring. No, dont' reply back to this and say "oh she called me stupid!" because I didn't. I'm not actually naming people and calling them stupid.

Once again, show respect for those that have passed away. Show some decency and compassion.

If you decide that is out of the question, DO NOT BASH OTHERS for actually being compassionate and caring.

*now, i'll just sit back and wait for the backlash*

I was actually trying to make the same point as you. My point was, just because most of those astronauts were American and it was NASA's space shuttle people were relating it to "American ignorance" and they wanted to tie everything together with the ongoing debate over America and why we're not allowed to have our voice.

Neowin is mostly viewers from other countries (especially these forums) so what did that guy expect when we posted this here. They were American, so people are not suppose to care because of exactly that.

Yes, thats what happens to most Iraqis (even at the age of 10) and thats another reason we'd like to see Saddam go. But I forgot yet again, its all about oil and Saddam is a very nice man. He never did any such thing as that.

well do you care about the palestinians, jews, africans, ill people and so on who die every day? even in your own country

take an example: child leukemia: do you care about these children who agonize for months and years before they die in pain? one of my friends actually died of leukemia, I was 10 when i learnt the new. came as a shock. so i know what im talking about

no one cares about the unfamous people only about the famous people its a fact... and honestly how many people in the world would have not known about the astronauts if the shuttle had landed? and btw american ignorance not really you (still in my example) have the world's best clinic for child leukemia cases, you have the special treatments noone else in the world could dream about, and this is true for many other domains... so no you are not ignorant do not worry

Yes, I am American. I am incredibly proud of that fact.

But as I said in my post, I don't care what country any of you are from. What country you are from should play NO bearing in this matter. America mourns when there are tragedies in other countries. France mourns when there are tragedies in other countries. Kings, Presidents, Prime Ministers, and others send their condolences when something happens to others. Whether it be Canada, Finland, Africa, Brazil.

Yes, I did post that to get a reaction out of others. It's about time that people started showing respect for others. It's about time that people started having compassion towards one another.

Whatever happened to the rule, if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all. It's one thing to say bad things about the prison system, or a rapist, or putting an animal down who attacked another human being. But when something like THIS happens how can ANYONE say anything bad about it? Or say anything bad about those who actually DO have respect towards the families and friends of these seven who died.

It just astounds me how ANYONE could be so uncaring towards another human being whether they knew the person or not.

I know about all the Palestinians that get killed everyday.

It's on CNN almost every hour.

But you have to understand why those people are dying. They are dying because they believe Israel is their land and the Jews need to leave. Israel, equipped by the U.S., has superior defences and is a rich country much like the U.S. Palestinians have made it their life goal to kill Jews or try and get their land back, so the life they choose if the live they will live (and die for). I really have no pity for people who are fighting for a non existent cause.

Israel has made it clear that the Palestinians can live and be free in Israel, yet the Palestinians want to throw rocks and bomb market places and movie theatres day after dad after day. Most of the times, the reasons Palestinians get shot or killed is because they threw the rocks first. Sure, they are only throwing rocks, but the amount of fear and irritability with the daily riot of Palenstinians has driven the Israelis to do this. Its kind of a "What will it take for them top stop?" situation. Israel has even built a wall to try and keep them out, yet the bombings persist. Oh well.

Speaking of cancer. I've had two friends whose parents have died because of leukemia, and both my uncle and grandma have died because of this. The treatments are very painful, and its a sick way to live. Both my uncle and my grandma opted to be taken off life support / cancer treatment so they could die without pain.

oh dont tell me about palestinians dying this was only an example anyway i have loads of jewish friends who say the same thing - but then they are biased - it goes to the point that palestinian kids throw stones on and attack cars which have an Israeli number plate and that all the Kibbutz (fish-ponds) workers are heavily armed in case of an attack... dont trust CNN, they are american - biased. As america is fighting a muslim country, CNN will put the muslims as the guilty (not directly though they are not stupid)

yes i know about chemotherapy being painful its first main side effect is heavy vomiting, followed by a huge depression etc. this is because all the growing cells in the body are killed sad isnt it but then we cannot blame cancer can we?

dont take anything I say as serious, I will never put up Really serious opinions on a forum which is meant not to be too serious if you met me in the street of course I wouldnt talk like that

dont start a flame war, who said americans are ignorant? i think america is a great country i am planning to go and work there some time (if i get a green card) or other.

oh and for your friends' parent's brother's sister in law dying of cancer it is different isnt it? I knew that guy very well, I played with him, i saw his hair come down, I saw him bald, did not really understand what was going to happen, and then he died because, not of leukemia itself, but because the surgeon made a mistake - I dont want to go into details it is still very painful..

to get the subject back on astronauts, yes they are heroes, but also because they accepted the fact that they were going to have a risk of death. Now the reason they died is that they did not have the articulated arm in the shuttle to repair the hull etc.. we can find hundreds of reasons. Am I being serious? no. An admin himself once told me (in person not on the forum) I hope you are not posting serious stuff on neowin? because it is not meant to be. i will keep his id secret for privacy reasons. I actually enjoy writing mile-long threads its fun. :alien:
