Sigma Tel Driver Blocking Vista SP1 Update

Recommended Posts

I had a similar problem as you, onboard SigmaTel sound (Dell), SP1 was blocked on Windows Update. I downloaded SP1 and installed it manually, everything is working fine and I still have sound which is great :) so that might be worth a try? However, since you seem not inclined to manually install it, SP1 should also be pushed as a required update on Automatic Updates sometime next month, so you can always wait till then as well.

I'll probably still check now and again at Dell support to see if they do in fact release updated drivers, but so far no issues to report (unfortunately the same can't be said about my older PC with an Audigy 4 soundcard, but that is off topic :p).

I was having the same issue with my XPS M1710. I downloaded the drivers for the M1330 (R167846) It was not listed for my system but it installed flawlessly and about 20 minutes later, SP1 was availiable for windows update. I made sure to uninstall my internet security system (KIS) prior to downloading SP1. Everything work great, so far so good!

I have SigmaTel HD Audio in my desktop, but have refused to use their driver. I just let Windows Update install the 'High Definition Audio Device' driver and had no problems installing SP1.

My advice is remove the driver, install SP1 and automagically install the HD Audio driver from Microsoft via Windows Update.

It has been ?couple weeks? since my conversation with MS? technicians. NO Windows Automatic Update SP1 has been brought to my attention?.sooooo, I uninstalled my SigmaTel Audio Drivers and restarted my PC. I then check for any Window Updates?.Nothing?Re-installed my Audio Drivers??Grrrr?

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y99/shygona/Michael_Cor?It was the smart move?.I?m gonna wait?.

until after the baptism?then I?m going to settle all this MS business?

That will bring peace to my PC family?

I'm going through the same thing with my Realtek AC'97 sound. I guess I'm just gonna wait till MS fixes everything. Oh well. I'm not really in a rush.

Ditto, I installed Vista on my Inspiron 6000. Everything but Dell's QuickSet and the AC97 chip worked fine. Hoping all of this gets straightened out but I am not keeping my fingers crossed since this is such an old codec. For now, it is back to XP!

Ok for lexonex's situation, I've just found a better solution, only this time we do NOT need to edit the stwrt.ini/stwrt64.ini files!

I found the right driver package that just might work on lexonex's Gateway FX510S computer AND it's in the most unlikely of places. It's a good thing I made him look up the hardware id number of the sigmatel/idt audio device.

Download the "AUD_allOS_5762x_5713.1v_PV_IDTGUI_v53.exe" file from this Intel web site:

http://downloadmirror.intel.com/13706/eng/..._IDTGUI_v53.exe

I've carefully checked the contents of the AUD_allOS_5762x_5713.1v_PV_IDTGUI_v53.exe file and it DOES include the I5.INI file. I've also looked at the contents of the stwrt.ini & stwrt64.ini files of this v6.10.5713.1 driver package. Guess what? The INI files listed the hardware ID no. on there:

"HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7682&SUBSYS_107B4044"

SO...

All lexonex has to do is to run the AUD_allOS_5762x_5713.1v_PV_IDTGUI_v53.exe file to extract the files to the \AUD_allOS_5762x_5713.1v_PV_IDTGUI_v53\ folder and then run the [setup.exe] file from that folder and the IDT Audio setup program should take care of the rest.

well lexonex, there you have it. You can thank Intel for making the IDT audio drivers work on your machine and on others. with version 6.10.5713.1 of the sigmatel/idt audio drivers from Intel installed on your Gateway computer, you should now be elligible for Vista SP1 through Windows Update after installing the April 2008 security updates, the April 2008 MS Malicious Software Removal Tool [< this was the very last update that I had to install on my mom's Dell laptop and Vista SP1 finally showed up in Windows Update] and the revised KB938371 update [< this is now V2]

FANTASTIC! I did as you suggest; downloaded the file and did an ?advanced search? (Vista hiding that .exe file) and checked the box indicating ?Include non-indhiddenen and system files?. I then clicked on the setup .exe file and ran it and thereby getting the new IDT Audio DrTHANK YOU YOU.

I than went ahead and clicked on ?check for updates? on Windows Updates. Nothing came up. I checked a sBINGO! SP1 update availablevailable; all systems go! I did the download and it took well over an hour. Up aI THANK YOU AGAINOU AGAIN.

I'm going through the same thing with my Realtek AC'97 sound. I guess I'm just gonna wait till MS fixes everything. Oh well. I'm not really in a rush.

nemo, this is going off topic from the Sigmatel driver Vista SP1 problem, but the solution is simple.

Download and install the latest Realtek AC'97 drivers for Vista from this Realtek web site:

http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downlo...p;GetDown=false

the latest Realtek AC'97 drivers for Vista are 6.0.1.6280; fully compatible with Vista SP1.

Unlike Sigmatel/IDT, Realtek makes their generic audio drivers available on their web site.

Ditto, I installed Vista on my Inspiron 6000. Everything but Dell's QuickSet and the AC97 chip worked fine. Hoping all of this gets straightened out but I am not keeping my fingers crossed since this is such an old codec. For now, it is back to XP!

macrospect, are you using Sigmatel/IDT AC97 audio or Realtek AC97 audio on your Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop? Open Device manager by typing devmgmt.msc in the Run dialog box, expand the Sound, video and game controllers section and look for your AC97 hardware.

I am using a Sigmatel AC97 based system. I tried the newest Realtek drivers (2/1/08 ones) but they did absolutely nothing to cure my sound issues in vista. I am using XP for now on my laptop and suspect that this issue will never be fixed considering that the AC97 is so dated.

Probably for the best too, Vista's had enough of it's share of issues with drivers to last a while. And I doubt OEM's are going to update older drivers anymore for it. No biggie though, XP's still better for older systems (and newer too!)

It'll be best to stick with WinXP but upgrade to WinXP SP3 when the final release of SP3 comes out later this month.

I somewhat agree. Dell has not posted any Vista compatible drivers for the Inspiron 6000 notebook computer as I've searched the Dell support site.

And reading this Dell forum thread:

http://www.dellcommunity.com/supportforums...p;cs=&s=gen

some users who also own the Inspiron 6000 laptop had some issues with Vista and switched back to XP.

I'm using Realtek HD Audio drivers and it installs the sigtel.exe application but it never prevented me getting SP1 via WU.

Sigtel.exe is NOT related to Sigmatel, WastedJoker. Realtek audio drivers don't work with Sigmatel audio hardware and vice-versa.

no, WastedJoker. I've downloaded and checked the latest Realtek high definition audio drivers from the Realtek web site myself and they do NOT contain the sigtel.exe file, nor the sigtel.exe file is a part of Sigmatel audio and Realtek audio.

I somewhat agree. Dell has not posted any Vista compatible drivers for the Inspiron 6000 notebook computer as I've searched the Dell support site.

And I believe the Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop is not completely Vista compatible.

The only Signatel audio drivers that prevent Vista SP1 from being offered from Windows Update are the Sigmatel High Definition Audio drivers, NOT the Sigmatel AC'97 Audio drivers. Let's be absolutely clear on that. Sigmatel HD audio drivers use either the sthda.sys or stwrt.sys file while Sigmatel AC'97 audio drivers use the stac97.sys file.

FYI

I received a Windows Update on 05/12:

IDT High Definition Audio Codec

Driver Provider: IDT

Driver Date: 2/13/2008

Driver Version: 1.0.5713.6

Driver Signer: MS Windows Hardware Compatible Published

Finally........

This driver update was available for a few days since 5/09, then was pulled from Windows Update & Microsoft Update Catalog on 5/13/2008. It caused Sigmatel hd audio from other name brand computers like Dell, HP & Sony to stop working correctly and disabled sound completely. They may offer it again later this month when IDT fixes their "broken" drivers, I hope. But at least the IDT HD Audio 1.0.5713.6 driver worked perfectly on your computer.

I happen to find version 1.0.5713.6 of the IDT HD Audio drivers from Intel's AUD_allOS_5762x_5713.6v_PV_IDTGUI_v68.exe package. So if Windows Update & Microsoft Update Catalog no longer offer 1.0.5713.6 of the IDT Audio driver, you can use the AUD_allOS_5762x_5713.6v_PV_IDTGUI_v68.exe file to install them instead.

Gateway has posted 6.10.5713.1 of the Sigmatel/IDT HD Audio drivers here:

http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers...p;uid=196370462

Released on April 24, 2008.

For Sigmatel HD Audio devices on Dell desktop computers (Optiplex 740, XPS 420/710/720, Precision 380/390/490/690, Dimension C521/E520/E521), obtain the SIGMATEL_STAC-92XX-C-Major-H_A06_R182475.exe file from here:

http://support.us.dell.com/support/downloa...p;fileid=248965

This one is version 6.10.5866 and was posted May 19.

For Sigmatel HD Audio devices on certain Toshiba notebook computers, version 6.10.5866 of the Sigmatel drivers (dated 2/15/2008) are now available from Windows Update & Microsoft Update Catalog.

A recent search on Sigmatel High Definition Audio Codec from Microsoft Update Catalog:

http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/sit...20audio%20codec

If your Sigmatel HD Audio device on a Toshiba computer uses any of the following hardware IDs:

hdaudio\func_01&ven_8384&dev_7690&subsys_11790472

hdaudio\func_01&ven_8384&dev_7691&subsys_117904f1

hdaudio\func_01&ven_8384&dev_7691&subsys_117904f2

hdaudio\func_01&ven_8384&dev_7690&subsys_11790473

hdaudio\func_01&ven_8384&dev_7691&subsys_11790472

hdaudio\func_01&ven_8384&dev_7690&subsys_11790463

Get version 6.10.5866 of the Sigmatel sound drivers from either Windows Update or Microsoft Update Catalog.

Yeah, sorry, it's SkyTel.exe that it installs

understandable error, WastedJoker. The latest Realtek HD Audio drivers from the Realtek web site should work with Vista SP1.

whoops, I take it back. the IDT HD Audio Codec 1.0.5713.6 Vista driver was actually available from late April to May 12. On May 13, Windows Update no longer offer it due to loss of sound problems it caused on Dell machines with IDT/Sigmatel Audio and Vista users had to restore the older IDT/Sigmatel driver to get back their sound.

Erpster,

I'm not receiving SP1 through Windows Update automatically. I have all the prerequisite updates already installed.

My SigmaTel driver is: 6.10.5379.0

The hardware ID is:

HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7662&SUBSYS_104D0C00&REV_1002

HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7662&SUBSYS_104D0C00

My notebook is Sony Vaio VGN FE41S running 32bit Vista Home Premium. Updated SigmaTel drivers are not available on the Sony Website.

I'm afraid of losing the sound if I manually install SP1 or install the wrong driver.

Can you please advice me what to do?

Sorry for not responding a lot sooner, Sagar Jacky. I've been very busy lately.

Good you mentioned the hardware ID number. Download the STDAUD-01487701-UN.exe package which has Sigmatel v6.10.5614.0 audio drivers AND should work for your Sony VAIO VGN-FE41S laptop. I checked this package and the INF files DO mention your hardware id number. So run this driver package and reboot.

A darn shame the STDAUD-01487701-UN.exe is not listed on the Sony VGN-FE41S download page. Sony seems to hide certain audio driver updates and list it on certain Sony notebook download pages and not others. Dell and HP seem to do that as well.

Update: I've just installed the Sigmatel v6.10.0.5866 HD audio drivers from Dell's R190517 package posted Oct. 21 on my mother's Dell Inspiron E1405 laptop and they worked great. Hurray for Dell!

For those using Sigmatel HD audio chips on desktop PCs containing Intel motherboards (especially some Gateway and PowerSpec brand desktop computers) use the AUD_allOS_5790.3x_5713.7v_PV_IDTGUI_v83.exe package (released May 22, 2008) to update the IDT/Sigmatel HD audio drivers on Vista to version 6.10.5713.7.

Those using Sigmatel HD audio hardware on NEC Versa L2100/E6200/E6210 and/or Packard Bell Easynote GN45 series notebook computers, Packard Bell & NEC have not provided any Vista SP1 compatible Sigmatel HD audio drivers on their support sites which is pitiful. Latest version they have when I recently checked is v6.10.5274.0 - NOT up to Vista SP1 standards. Guess those two PC manufacturers did not pay close attention to Microsoft's support KB article 948343 about the problematic IDT/Sigmatel drivers. Or worse, they may have known about it but did nothing. Since the original Sigmatel v6.10.5274.0 audio drivers seem to mention only hardware id "HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690", Vista users owning the NEC Versa or Packard Bell GN45 laptops may want to try out Gateway's D20253-001-001.exe package (posted Feb. 6, 2008) which contain v6.10.5713.0 of the Sigmatel HD audio drivers and may support the Sigmatel HD audio hardware that uses the hardware id number of "HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690".

A darn shame the STDAUD-01487701-UN.exe is not listed on the Sony VGN-FE41S download page. Sony seems to hide certain audio driver updates and list it on certain Sony notebook download pages and not others. Dell and HP seem to do that as well.

uh, whoops. There is an updated Sigmatel audio driver for the VGN-FE41S laptop on its downloads page but it is version 6.10.5379.1 released August 18, 2008. It's a "point one" release that is compatible with Vista SP1. Seems like Sony was relatively slow in providing updated Sigmatel HD audio drivers for some of their laptops.

Can anyone throw me a bone on a driver that might stop the crashing on boot? I have tried reinstalling the core driver from the site. When the card works it works well.

You're in luck, NeuroShayd. Obtain the IDT HD Audio v6.10.5939.0 drivers from this Gateway support site.

Since I don't see any specific FX6860 downloads on the Gateway site, version 6.10.5939.0 of the IDT HD Audio drivers DO mention

Be sure to un-install the existing Sigmatel/IDT Audio driver first, then install the new one.

    • If you actually used it instead of responding like a petulant child you might be surprised. I switched from Google some time ago and have been very satisfied.
    • I am one of the first people to use the DXVK technology. In the channel below you can see some videos that I have made using this technology, including Assassin's Creed Odyssey. https://www.youtube.com/@nahum7995/videos Assassin's Creed Odyssey experienced several bugs and technical issues during its first months after release. It launched with its own fair share of funny but frustrating glitches. I ran it on DXVK 9 days after its release and I played it for many hours but didn't see a single significant bug on Linux. Assassin's Creed Odyssey is widely celebrated for pushing the franchise in bold new directions and specifically for nailing several elements better than any other title in the AC series: Player Choice & Branching Narrative, The Mercenary & Cultist System, Mythological Integration, Overpowered Combat Abilities, Open World Exploration But what I'm trying to point out is that this game wasn't quite playable on most windows systems, until a few months after its release when most of the bugs were fixed. However, on Linux it ran completely flawless from day one, although DXVK had seen little development and refinement at the time. What do you think the situation will be in 2026 now that most bugs and glitches of DXVK have been completely eliminated? This is information from Google about these situations that I am quoting. In many cases, using DXVK (a translation layer that converts DirectX 9, 10, or 11 into Vulkan) can result in more stable frame times and higher performance than native Windows rendering. This happens primarily by bypassing driver overhead and multithreading draw calls that were previously restricted to a single CPU core. Older APIs (like DirectX 9 and 11) are largely single-threaded on the CPU side. DXVK translates these calls to Vulkan, which is highly multi-threaded. This reduces CPU-bound stuttering on weaker processors. In certain cases, GPU manufacturers (especially AMD) have significantly better and more modern Vulkan drivers than they do for legacy DirectX. Vulkan gives developers—and in this case, the translation layer—closer control over how resources are held in VRAM. This can prevent micro-stutters and sudden frame drops during chaotic gameplay. Yes, certain games, particularly older DirectX 9 to 11 titles, can run with fewer crashes on DXVK than on native Windows. By intercepting DirectX draw calls and translating them into the modern, highly efficient Vulkan API, DXVK bypasses the limitations and poor driver support that cause instability in aging game engines. PlayStation 1, PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 can be easily and perfectly emulated on Linux. In fact, modern Linux emulators offer high-performance upscaling, widescreen patches, and automatic controller mapping out of the box.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 PlayStation 1/2/3 games look drastically better on Linux thanks to resolution upscaling. Furthermore, it is also a fact that you cannot play many fun games on Windows either, isn't it? - The Nintendo Switch has an extensive library of exclusive games. - PlayStation has an extensive library of exclusive games - Android has "mobile-exclusive" games, meaning they are exclusive to mobile devices (iOS and Android) and aren't available on PC or consoles. And finally, it is also the case that in the next five years there will be games that millions of people will say you absolutely must play and that they want to play this specific game that released a few days ago. However, the other side of this story is that currently, absolutely no one cares that they cannot play these upcoming games right now.
