Diary of the Dead (2008)

Recommended Posts

Over the weekend I went with some friends to see Diary of the Dead, the latest George A. Romero addition to an awesome subgenre.

Synopsis: A group of film students are making an independent horror film when they become trapped in a world being consumed by flesh-eating zombies. They then turn their attention toward making the film into a documentary on their personal horror experiences.

This is easily the worst installment from Romero in the Dead series, but still isn't horrible as a film. The message that Romero is trying to get across, like his previous zombie/political pieces, isn't lost in the macabre. Yet there's a lack of passion, at least to me, in the film compared to his previous installments, such as Land of the Dead.

That is probably because he was doing this film as an independent film instead of having a mega studio like Universal Studios behind the film. I had the feeling that he was way to concerned with the visceral gore rather than the storyline itself.

Still a good addition to the zombie genre, not great, but good. I'd recommend it to any horror fan and especially to zombie fans.

2.5 out of 5 stars

I am looking forward to catching this but I didn't have high hopes and I felt sorry for Romero really because he thought this was a revolutionary concept but then Cloverfield arrived, I wonder if he has anymore in progress for the dead series.

I thought it was pretty rad.

Another good Zombie movie shot in the same manner with pretty well the same premise is "The Zombie Diaries", its UK film from 06, definitely worth checking out if you are a zombie fan.

I have not seen this, but do check out [Rec]. It's an awesome Spanish zombie movie filmed using a camera POV, which seems to be the trend these days.

Yeah I agree [rec] was alot better then this and if anyone has seen the new trailer to Quarantine its a complete scene for scene remake of [rec]
