Brandon Live Veteran Posted March 27, 2008 Author Veteran Share Posted March 27, 2008 Also, I'll point out that while the UI changes are minimal in this release (especially on Vista), there was been a ton of work by the indexer team to improve performance, reliability, citizenship, etc. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/628171-windows-search-40-beta/#findComment-589296826 Share on other sites
Herculean
Does "minimal UI changes" involve fixing the search button on the bar in the taskbar when Windows classic is the visual style? If so, that'll make it pretty sweet! Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/628171-windows-search-40-beta/#findComment-589296837 Share on other sites

Really not sure. I actually wasn't really involved in this release, so I'm not up on all the details. The main changes I'm familiar with are some of the query performance increases and some cool new SQL stuff for developers. Fair enough, what's the recommended way that I can contact them to report this bug? Glowstick
Outlook removed message removal from index better be working this time. What's the point of a damn search engine if it finds stuff long deleted ago (deleted as in gone forever, not moved to trash). What's the point of a damn search engine if it finds stuff long deleted ago (deleted as in gone forever, not moved to trash). That's never been a known issue with Windows Search / WDS. It's been a problem with some competitors, mainly Google who said "it's not a bug, it's a feature!" Unless a whole bunch of stuff changes at once, the indexer is always kept up-to-date, and deletes should always be processed pretty much instantly. The only exception might be on battery power, depending on your power profile. Argi
Will this be deployed through Windows Update when it's finished, and if so will we have to uninstall the preview when the final is released? I'm not 100% sure, but I believe the answer is yes (to both questions). Yeah, unfortunately that is necessary since the index format changed significantly. random_n
Ooh, I'll have to try this at work tomorrow. My Vista/Outlook 2007 machine has multiple Outlook profiles (for multiple Exchange accounts over disparate domains with RPC/HTTPS), and the Indexer v3 seems to be very choosy as to which profile it indexes. I'd thought it was the first, alphabetically, but I'm not so sure any more after it switched one day and I couldn't figure out why. Hopefully that's fixed, but even if not (and I'll admit my configuration is a fringe case), performance improvements are always welcome! :) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/628171-windows-search-40-beta/#findComment-589297133 Share on other sites
Express
Yeah, unfortunately that is necessary since the index format changed significantly. Perf has really improved though. Thanks. I see a number of crashes in Search filter Host. Is there a list of good well behaved IFilters? Brandon Live Veteran Posted March 28, 2008 Author Veteran Share Posted March 28, 2008 Is this the ill fated "Casino" or "One View"? Or is that project dead as a dodo? "Casino" was mainly a research / prototype project. This release contains mainly improvements to the desktop indexer, and the other features/fixes described above. Express
So the revolutionary UI of Casino won't be in this? even in the final release? OneView was one of the "Live" projects. It became a victim of reorg when the search team moved to Windows.
