[Request] Linux Gateway Software

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for recommendations on some new software. I've been using Ipcop for a about a year now and its just not what I'm looking for in terms of filering, logging etc.

Here are my requirements

* MUST SUPPORT USB ADSL MODEM (SpeedTouch 330)

* Transparent Proxy mode

* extensive logging and reporting

* live bandwidth monitoring

* Usage reporting. E.g. PC1 used 40gig, PC2 used 2gig etc... The more extensive the better

* Web GUI + ssh access

* Free for non-commercial use

Thats all I'm really after, apart from the obvious, stability, ease of use etc. Personal recommendations are better, but I'm open to try anything suggested.

Thanks.

I wish I would of changed over to pfsense when it first came out -- its been nothing but rock stable. Looking forward to the 1.3 release using FreeBSD 7.

I do not use USB modems, so not up to speed on its support for them. Can you not just change to a ethernet modem?

Currently don't have the budget to switch over to an Ethernet Modem. Infact, I've not seen any for sale in the UK.

I read in another thread that pfsense has a livecd? Can't hurt to give it a go and see if it supports it.

You living under a rock somewhere?

the ST510 is almost an direct replacement

http://www.thomson-broadband.co.uk/product...p?ProductID=532

The Thomson ST 510(v6) is a single port ADSL2+ modem and router. An ideal Ethernet based replacement for the Speedtouch USB/330 modem for users wanting higher bandwidth support over 8Mbit/s.

Its like 20 quid! Come on -- your saying you dont even have 20 quid?

I stand corrected haha. I may very well look into that, however it means also picking up another PCMCIA card for the laptop im running this all from. Again, not a problem.

Any other suggestions aside from pfsense?

There are plenty of them -- have you looked at that untangle, have been meaning to take a look. have been meaning to look at it myself, but have been pretty happy with pfsense.

Another one that I was not impressed with at all is http://www.astaro.com/ -- Real slick interface and all, but pretty resource hungry!

Your a UK, their is a UK firewall distro -- http://opensource.censornet.com/ have you looked at that one? Off the top there is also http://www.securepoint.cc/

There are lots and lots of them to play with ;)
