Do itt.

Did they ever make a 2.4Ghz Dual Quad-core Mac Pro??

I thought 2.8Ghz was the slowest.

And I didn't think you could put two 8800GTs in it either.

I'm calling BS on your sig.

Its no BS. I PM'd him about it as I was looking into a similar set up. Aside from being a really nice guy and taking time to help me, he explained to me really well what goes on:

Stick an apple custom 8800 in He doesn't use them as SLI in OS X but uses one for each monitor during video editing.

Play with it in windows to get it to do SLI during your gaming

Revel in graphics :p

@ CY:G - are those speakers in the background? Any recommendations for some good gaming speakers?

Yes, they are pretty old tho, and about the recommendation, it really depends on your budget, if you can afford good ones get the Logitech Z5500, if you want something cheaper look for the Logitech X-540...

Nice!!

I assume the stacker is the tower on the right? and the smaller monitor displaying the server, maybe?

yeah, i got the 15" lcd awhile ago, to replace my 15" CRT... But i never had much use for it until now :p

Wow, just figured with all that RAM and HDD space he would at least get like 2.8Ghz or 3.

you're right about my sig. it's a typo. it is 2.8ghz. it was 3 in the morning and i wanted a sig.....iono why i decided to do it then instead of wait...getting ready to fix it.

about getting 3ghz out of it. i havent found a really simple way of oc a mac but i don't need to. 8 cores at 2.8ghz a piece is doing it's job. i am thinking of selling some ram to go up to 24gb though. 16gb does it's job, but i've came within 1gb of using all my ram because i video edit professionally along with code, graphics edit, render, etc.. (especially even more atm because i'm starting a new company ground up).

like was said i got the dual 8800gt to power dual 30" monitors. which i could do with one, but i'd prefer dedicated....and you can have up to 4 8800gt cards if you wish (total of 16 monitors). there are 4 pci-e slots available and you can do what you want with them.

****Here is an update of what it looks like RIGHT NOW! If the mod could delete my previous post. I didn't have my camera to take updated pics.****

I'm just got the desk about a month ago and it's about to go for a Bush series corner desk with hutch if i can't find storage and filing cabinets to go with it. It's my home office (where i do personal work, run my own business, and i'm basically OCD when it comes to organzing and keeping it clean) and I feel like its my dorm room. The mous pad WAS a corepad XXXL until i cut it down. It was just too big. I was able to make 4 pads out of it (3 regular and one large one that i'm using).

BTW: I didn't clean the desk like a lot of people do for their pics. I keep it like this all the time. There might be a book out or something when i'm working or something, but atm i'm not working so this is it. :D I'm OCD as HELL!

Yeah, but If I'm gonna pay the premium to get a Mac Pro, I wanna run OS X.

My MBP is good for most things now, I just render on my PC.

Not really paying a premium. I've done hours of research (because everyone says how macs are way over priced. they aren't you get the same price for what you would pay if you built it but it comes with a OS built around the hardware) and with coupons and rebates (which is what you search for when building your own machine) its the same price give or take $30. Plus you should see the inside of one of these. NO WIRES AT ALL! Getting the wires hidden like that is well worth $150 in labor. The pull out HDD trays were you just screw in the drive and put the tray back in, no wire attachments....you can't find a better manufactured system.

Run Windows in something like VMWare Fusion when you don't need more then 2 cores. And when you really need extreme power in windows....boot into bootcamp. You can save everything to the same drive and be able to access it in Fusion if you need to view it.

I've priced it, too. The hards drives alone are waay too expensive, not to mention Apple RAM. FB-ECC ram is expensive, but Apple RAM is suuper expensive.

I run Boot Camp/VMWare right now with XP and Server 08. It's quite nice.

I'll probably wait till I finish school to get a new workstation. They'll have a Quad Quad-Core or Dual Octo-Core Mac Pro maybe :)

Nice setup btw.

You are getting wrong info i think. You can use any hard drive as long as its SATA. I have regular seagate barracuda drives. HD's are 99% universal. As far as ram it does need fully buffered ram, but it's not horribly expensive. memoryamerica or macsales has it for about $60-$65 for 1GB free shipping. the ONLY thing that has to be apple when you buy a system and upgrade it to the high end model instead of letting apple rape you with their "upgrade prices" is the video card but you really only pay around $60-1000 more, which is not thatttt much but it's not thattt cheap. There are ways to solder points on regular cards and firmware to make any ol' reg card work. As far as ram, hdd, etc... goes every company charges wayyyyy over true retail price; dell, sony, toshiba, lenovo (lenovo is one brand that is more expensive then parts would be to diy),etc...

The mere fact that eveyrthing is put in a beautiful case perfectly...i would buy a mac pro and ALWAYS run bootcamp if i could only use windows. All the wires are on the back of the mobo. You don't even see a wire for hd's. they plug right into the motherboard. It's a truly remarkable design and setup of a computer. Not to mention that i have TWO 4 core INTEL (known for being able to cook on) running in this machine and i never get above 28* c even during 100% load. This has got to be the best cooled case that any manufacturer has ever put together that i've seen. I don't know if most of you have seen sind of one butt i'll take some pictures. Everything is removable as innot having to use screws except for the common sense things like pci-e cards.
