A wip. I am waiting for my dad to run power to it, hence the reason why the bottom part hasn't been plastered and I havent painted yet(Well, i havent chosen a colour either..). I am also going to move the monitor up a tiny bit, and the speakers over a bit. I love DIY, even though im rubbish at it :D

Surprised to see the ageold laser printer Cara ;)

Would have at least expected an glossy black Canon or Samsung

HP LaserJet 5. Pagecount is over 200k and it is still stronger than the brand new HP a friend of mine got the other day. 10k pages in and the fuser is already acting up.

Need any more laptops? And I like the new sig you have (Y)

I don't even have my WhiteBook or MacBook Air up there, let alone the Dell D600 or XT1 or 630 I have...or the Lenovo T61 or ... Oh, and thanks!

No way. Those HP's are built like tanks. They'll outlast any of the 'pretty' ones out now.

Amen to that!

I had Macs on glass too. Don't the masses of cables ruin the "Mac" aesthetic?

They so do, and the white power adapters for all...blah! Need Black for Black and Silver for Pros.

*peachey steals some of cara's many laptops >.>

why do you even have so many?

why do you even have so many?

I get one of each model the day of release incase I ever need it during the course of my day. Of course, as we all know the same things designed on a MacBook Pro will work the same way on a MacBook or Air because of the Unified OS and not having to worry about odd drivers like on Wintel so they just tend to end up in use randomly throughout the house. : winks :

Cara have Laptop fetish :s

Why not, I have enough other fetishes...

Main workstation (red one), and secondary server machine for folding@home, in fact it's currently running Neowin's Folding@home. Also, check out my super expensive mousepad, it's 1337! ;p

Also, sorry about the mess, for me it's functionality>aesthetics. Also, if I'm not mistaken, I think the Trinitron monitor is an antique. :p

Is that a 226BW on your wall because mine and as far as I know everyone else's 226BWs have terrible viewing angles especially from the bottom - isn't that a problem for you since you got it wall mounted pretty high and say you're going to move it up even more?

Yeah I know the HP's are beasts .. I have 2 lasers downstairs and also a good ol' Laser2100 .. still phurs like a kitten after 10 years ... also exhauts mass amounts ozon just for fun...

I never thought I'd see the day MacFans prefer the function over beauty ;) j/k

Hey...for those of you have the (glossy) iMacs, do you have any screen issues? Mainly, I am speaking about the reflection of them. I am deciding to buy the older white iMac or just go with the newer ones.

Thanks for any replies! :)

Sadly reflections is the largest down fall of the current generation iMac, many people (myself included) prefer the Matte screen style which is no longer provided as a product option on the iMac.

That being said, the technical advances of the current generation iMac over the old White models makes it hard to say you should consider the WhiMac versus the AlumiMac.

ps .. Cara.. it that the Logitech Revolution mouse? What's your take on the mighty mouse?

Perhaps throw that pos back in the reality distortion field back at work on monday?

Sure is a MX Revolution. :) I love my MX. ;)

The Mighty Mouse is a wonderful product, for an absolute base in product. That being said, Apple truly needs to adopt a little more Function into the form and get rid of the Whipple and go for a wheel, it was a cute concept but it doesn't work.

Ummm... no offence but ... pics? Of your work stations?

Great minds think alike ;)

I think the mighty mouse wouldn't be that bad it had a wheel, 2 buttons were activated by default, has a seperation between the button making it clear it has 2 buttons, had a better ergonomic shape...

oh woops .. i just described about every other mouse out there ;) haha

Too bad Apple won't dump the mighty due to it's "being differentness" and it's one 1 click (altough it sucks). I wonder .. is Jobsy really actually using it or just a Logitech like everyone else.

(Gotta give Microsoft OEM Hardware credit tough .. all their keyboards and mice rock .. except for the tobos with the seperated layout for ergonomic reasons which is just weird .. maybe better but weird...)

My Home Office.

Delish..... I love to see pure Mac homes :)

I am flirting with the idea of dropping a bit of coin on a new Mac Pro with dual 30's. It is one of those things that I have wanted ever since the PowerMac G5 came out years ago. Bump it up to 4GB of RAM (enough to run a couple of VMs) and I would have no excuses to ditch the last of my Windows PCs.

Currently running a standard 15" MBP that I bumped to 2GB. I just picked up an 802.11n Airport and daisy-chained my 4 500 GB drives off it. Yummo, 2TB of storage and no computer required :)

Oh, you just gave me really bad ideas with that setup...my husband is going to kill me. I need to get a set of those shelves for my office to clean up the 'graveyard' corner in my office. :p

    • Close, but it is for any application starting, not just during boot time. In fact, it probably will not improve boot time at all because during a boot, the CPU is already boosting, so a pre-boost wouldn't change anything. I agree that it isn't exciting (especially considering every other OS already does it), but it is a good thing, even if they are just playing catch up.
    • Any so called performance increase will be in milliseconds, which nobody will actually notice in real world usage.
    • All it does is use the CPU more efficiently during boot to speed up boot times. That's it. Yawn....
    • It's not a one or the other kind of thing. Software should run efficiently, and the operating system should appropriately manage the CPU clocks. You could have the best most optimized software on earth, and it will still run faster if the CPU does a better job of boosting as needed. All this is doing is pre-boosting the CPU based on user actions, instead of waiting for the normal detection mechanism to kick in. If the OS knows it is about to need more CPU, why shouldn't it use that knowledge? It's the same idea of downshifting before passing someone, instead of just burying your foot into the peddle and waiting for the transmission to figure out what you want to do.
