I don't know what's going on with the Apple devs lately working on Webkit here, but every single build since the 16th of June pretty much has crashed Safari 3.1.2 and DP 4 on XP and Vista for me. I had to revert every single time to a pre-16th build, bleh.

Hopefully they can sort this out in a build or two, it's rather annoying.

This latest build works absolutely great for me. They are back to regular builds now!

Build: WebKit r36108 was built on 05 September 2008 and is a 23.2 MB download.

wow, it seems they have upped the revision number a lot in one day.

September 7, the revision number goes from 36135 to 36254

And it seems the latest nightly (362xx) have reclaimed the crown in Sunspider. Now it's faster than both Chrome and TraceMonkey in the Apple benchmark.

The Javascript speed war is here!

SquirrelFish Extreme Accelerates JavaScript Even More

The Webkit blog has posted benchmarks on their "next generation" JavaScript interpreter called SquirrelFish Extreme (SFX). SquirrelFish Extreme uses "more advanced techniques" to deliver even faster JavaScript performance.

The new version of SquirrelFish is nearly twice as fast the first version of SquirrelFish which we previously reported on. It is also over three times faster then the current Safari 3.1 version that is available from Apple.

JavaScript is heavily used in many modern interactive websites, including Apple's own MobileMe web apps. Google is also investing heavily in improving JavaScript performance and is working on their own accelerated JavaScript interpreter called V8. According to one blog, SquirrelFish Extreme is 38% faster than the current version of V8.

SquirrelFish is available in the nightly betas of Webkit for personal testing, and should eventually make its way into future Safari releases.

What am I doing wrong? I've been applying the nightlies successfully for many months but a few months ago it would crash every time I would try to reopen safari. I gave up and just now tried applying the latest webkit, which worked when I ran the nightly but crashes every time I try to open Safari up afterwards. I tried other builds but they also crash.
