For what your use is going to be, an 8600GT will be fine. It will also do hardware decoding of HD Video.

Save the cash, or put it toward some other part that you will use.

Thanks will do :). Does anyone know off the top of there heads (before i have a look) if scan.co.uk do free delivery?

No...not unless you like the case thats on the front page.

Erm.. no dont really want that case lol. I worked it out and i can get all my stuff cheaper else where. Some of the parts themselves are cheaper on scan.co.uk but with the delivery it all works out more expensive considering the other site offers free delivery :).

Is it ok to go with a ddr3 graphics card if your using ddr2 in your machine? and would it be better to go with one that has dual dvi or one with 1x dvi and 1x vga ports?

Sure what ever works out best.

Evga, BFG, XFX, Asus, not in any specific order, but I'd say those are the top 4.

I agree with that order exactly :) Although I myself got a BFG 8800 GT OC 512 and LOVE IT.. 0 problems, and just remember prices on video cards and such are going down so fast.

Go to frozencpu and look around, if you find one then look for it elsewhere because they're overpriced in just about everything.

svc.com

performance-pcs.com

coolerguys.com

jab-tech.com

sidwindercomputers.com

sundialmicro.com

They all have more limited case selections, but do not have the same case selection. Frozencpu will probably have the largest collection, so look there then go to these sites and compare pricing.

These sites complements to the usual newegg, clubit, zipzoomfly, mwave, ewiz, and buy.com.

am after a cheap black pc case with a side window, without a door on the front any ideas on where i could find one? or any that you've seen?

I don't have one in mind but this is what I end up doing usually.

Go to Newegg and use their Advance Search or Power Search feature. Even the Guided Search works well. They have a great site with pictures. Although you may find some cases available in North America that are not available in the UK. Or alternatively, there are some brands that are Europe only, and do not have a retailer/etailer in North America. Best answer I can provide on it. One brand that I liked that seems to be Euro only is Akasa. They are not quite on the cheap side though but are built well from what I have seen (I've never had or seen one in person so I can't really tell how good the build quality really is).

Just came to mind that Kingwin used to have a very plain Jane looking case. Black, 4x5.25" bays, side window and aluminum (affordable at the time for an aluminum case - about 3-5yrs ago). Finding one may be super difficult since it is quite an old case.

Just put my new machine together but on the P5K-E motherboard there is a 8 pin power connector, but nothing on my PSU will plug into it, therefore when i turn the machine on it trys to start but then just shuts down again.

Any help? :)

I'm sorry to have to say this but we suggested PSU that had a 8 pin plug on it so you gave yourself this problem.

    • Lego Batman 2026 hahahaha. You thought I couldn't reply back???
    • The problem isn't with Epic, it's with the platform holders like Steam and Nintendo, they should be a lot more strict in their review process.

    • Microsoft updates Visual Studio Code with easier language model discovery and in-app search by Paul Hill Microsoft has released Visual Studio Code 1.125, its latest weekly release. This week, the company has focused on discovering and installing extra language models via the Marketplace; searching the web and securely browsing over remote connections without leaving VS Code; choosing how long VS Code waits before installing extension updates; and delivering managed Copilot settings through existing device management tooling. In older versions of VS Code, extensions could contribute their own model providers, but to find these extensions, you needed the right tags to search for in the Extension view. Now, the Language Models editor gives you an Install Model Providers button that opens the Extensions view, which is filtered to extensions that contribute model providers, making it easier to find and install them. Once you install a provider, its model will appear in the model picker. If you use the integrated browser much, you can now look up information without leaving VS Code by typing a query into the integrated browser’s address bar. It will use your configured search engine, the same way a standalone browser does. You can use workbench.browser.searchEngine to pick a search engine. When the browser is opened in a remote workspace, it's now possible to proxy HTTP(S) traffic via the remote connection. This allows you to connect to any ports or services that can only be accessed from the remote machine. If you read our coverage from two weeks ago about VS Code 1.123, you might have seen that extension updates have a two-hour delay as a safety measure. In this update, Microsoft is giving you the ability to configure the time of the delay. You can find it under extensions.autoUpdateDelay. Finally, with this update, admins can deliver managed GitHub Copilot settings through native device management (MDM) channels on Windows and macOS, in addition to account-based enterprise settings files. Settings delivered via MDM appear as policy-enforced in VS Code and can’t be overridden locally. Future updates will extend the supported policy keys across Copilot surfaces. You can download the update from the Visual Studio Code website now.
