I/O Error on optical drives

I'm posting this here since i'm quite sure that its not my optical drives themselves.

I've got a Lite-On dvd-rom, and a Pioneer DVR212, both SATA.

I'm not sure if this problem started after I tried to rip a rather old generic CD with EAC, or if it just seems like that. If I try to make an image of a CD through imgburn I just get:

I/O Error!

Device: [3:0:0] PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-212 1.24 (H:) (RAID)

Interpretation: Read CD - Sector: 8208

Reason: The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error.

It happens on the same sector with both drives, hence me thinking it isn't a hardware problem.

Maybe just a bad disk. Any fingerprints/scratches on it?

I have eorror "INvalid MS-DOS application"

when i try to copy data from CD to HDD .......

then i try to another PC it work fine there ..........

I've tried a few, and even one that the drive had burned just minutes before (So if it was able to burn the disc, it shouldn't be hardware related?) and got the same error.

Did you try in any other OS? Did you swap the cables with newer/borrowed ones and check?

Don't have any other OSes installed apart from vista. Just tried creating an image from a DVD and it was fine, seems to be CDs are the problem here.

What I get with ImgBurn using the Nero ASPI:

I/O Error!

Interpretation: SRB Aborted

Host Adapter Status: 0x10

Interpretation: The Adapter Failed In Issuing

Target Status: 0x00

Interpretation: Good

Interpretation: Read CD - Sector: 8448

is autoplay turned off or on?what av are you using?have you tried other burming software?

On, NOD32, yeah, i've tried nero. ImgBurn DID manage to burn a CD that was fine tho (And this was after the errors started).

I've found out the cause of this is/was SP1. With my vlite'd (SP1 integrated disc), I get the I/O error. With a fresh vista SP0 install and SP1 installed, I/O error. If I install the same copy of vista without applying SP1 afterwards, it works fine. Any ideas?

Bad cable perhaps. Though not sure that would explain it going away without SP1 installed.

Doubt its a bad cable, same error on both drives at the same sector with SP1 installed. Thanks though.

What type of write did you do when the successful burn was done? Was it DAO, SAO, TAO.......? I know I had problems with sata drives at first due to the intel chipset on my mobo. I had to change the setting in the bios to allow a good burn of DAO's. check what type of burn you did, and maybe this is what you can do to fix the problem :)

The problem isn't burning, its reading CDs (Since SP1...).
