Bluetooth gives Spies a Window into your Life

Also, how can you really say that a phone's name is trackable to a person? Most people never change their bluetooth device name. It's stupid to think you can track someone with a device name. lol

Each bluetooth device has an ID, like a MAC code i think.

Follow a few simple steps and you can aleviate potential security risks by turning off Bluetooth when not needed, turn off device discovery, and use a passkey for all of your electronic devices. Turn off file sharing for Bluetooth as well. I would suspect that if your device is a smartphone from one of the big wireless companies, chances are that it has been crippled to not allow file sharing. I know AT&T and T-Mobile have done this in the past.

FYI

I agree and disagree with that, a lot of people do leave the default names.

However when I?ve been bored on the bus looking for random people to send stuff to I?ve found some people actually have their phone number as there Bluetooth name or even part of there postcode or name.

E.g. I?ve found quite a few phones with name?s something like ?HD9 Blonde Baby Rach?

HD9 would tell me what area of Huddersfield they live in, then if there?s only one blonde person on the bus you would have a good idea who they are and you could have a good guess at their name too.

I can?t see its very likely this information would be used to track someone but you never know these days.

Havent you seen 24?

They use the antennas to triangulate the signal :p

duhhh

From bluetooth, doubtfull the range is to limited to be of much use you'd have to be within a field of several of them....

From the Mobile phone masts, yep thats doable if your in a city where there's a high density of smaller lower powered cells it's rather accurate as well.

im a little more worried about cell phone service providers giving law enforcement/government agencies your location via cell phone GPS without any kind of warrant. and that one you CANT turn off.

call me paranoid. chances are its for good reasons. but its personal information, and i should have the ability to opt out of this invasion. but i dont.

i heard wrapping ur phone in tinfoil makes it harder to trace :shiftyninja:

Scirwode

    • Still hate Windows 11, I stuck it on my gaming machine again just for a nose to see what they had done, still as bad. Will restore Windows 10 back on it, suit MS anyway, they don't want me to run Windows 11 on it.
    • Ms did go with the you must sign into an account thing with Windows 8 for a while. The same sort of thing they are doing with Windows now and the MS account.
    • Hello, What sort of Microsoft Authenticator account login approval requests are you getting?  It is a generic authentication app and can be used with all sorts of services (Microsoft Account, Google Account, websites and services that support multi-factor authentication, etc.). • Windows 8? Nah. I found Window 8 worked well, get a third party start menu to get rid of the start screen, I used Start is back and windows 8 was pretty good. I used it even when Windows 10 came out as I found Windows 10 was iffy on my machine at the time was AMD FX Bulldozer based. It was only when I updated the innards to Ryzen that I had no choice but to go to Windows 10 as MS made it difficult to stay with Windows 8. ME, yes, that was not great, I liked the look of it, but it was not stable, shame really because Windows 98SE was the best of the dos based Windows.
