Jaybonaut
I suppose that assumption doesn't include load times or search times of course - you know, the thing that Vista is known for in comparison to XP. ZeroLogic - I'm proud of you man. If you switch back, no one should give you any grief. I am just full of praise for anyone who keeps an honest open mind and doesn't use testing purposes to just find more reasons to stand on their xp argument. ViperAFK
omg really? Vista sp1 is faster than xp sp2 for network download? Gonna buy vista right away! Yeah but this is one of the things xp has always been touted as being faster in. NEVER85
Due to the nature in which multi processor systems require specific support to take advantage of all the hardware, it's not exactly a comparable situation. Purely for software efficiency, XP is far superior. There is a reason Vista requires more than 1 GB ramwhile XP can run happily on 512. I have a computer with 768 MB of RAM that Vista Home Basic is running "happily" on. Care to try again? ANova
I suppose that assumption doesn't include load times or search times of course - you know, the thing that Vista is known for in comparison to XP. Vista uses a completely different indexing service, of course searching is faster. As far as load times go, I don't know about you but from my experiences Vista was as much as two times slower at loading and shutting down than XP. I have a computer with 768 MB of RAM that Vista Home Basic is running "happily" on. Care to try again? No. Happily may mean one thing to you and another to me. Jaybonaut
I said load times, not boot times. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/635652-windows-vista-sp1-outperforms-windows-xp-sp2-in-file-copy/page/3/#findComment-589390568 Share on other sites
WooSH
Ive been running Winows Vista Business RTM on a Dell P4 3.0Ghz w/ 512MB of RAM. Few hicks here and there but overall i can run Firefox with either Flash/Dreamweaver/Photoshop CS3 before it starts to slow down a lot. Other wise for browsing and everyday use with Office, Pictures, Music its fine! soldier1st
what vista needs is mature drivers as with all os,without those it wont perform very well.vista will work with single core and the newer ones. Internet
I seem to doubt that.... I was downloading drivers on my laptop and at 100% it pauses and the download screen stays open for like 5 minutes, it's ridiculous. It's only copying a ~10 mb file from /temp. Joshua-San
Meh. Some time ago my Windows XP installation totally exploded. It became completely useless. After backing up all my stuff, I had to choose between installing XP or Vista. The choice was relatively simple. I installed Vista on my computer, and I'm happy with it. I don't feel like going back to XP. Sure, there are some quirks here and there, but that's what the whole Windows family is all about and I came to accept it. For me Vista wins the "fight". I don't care if several things are slower than in XP. Vista just feels snappier and more solid. Copying is slower? Fine, I'll just get my guitar out, or drink some tea. Deal with it. If your computer isn't capable of running Vista, you shouldn't install Vista and most certainly shouldn't bash Vista. I can run Vista and I'm happy, no matter what some statistics say. Crazysah
Exactly. I have both Vista and XP on different computers and I am more satisfied with Vista than XP. Many of you may say it has problems but I haven't come across any major ones that would make me switch.
