What do you want to see in the Spring Update?

Recommended Posts

I was going to be evil and just put 'Spring Update' in the title to get your hopes up, but decided against it.

Anyone have anything they're dying to see in the update that MS seems to have kept so tightly under wraps that I'm not sure it exists?

I have nothing in particular, personally, but if past updates are anything to go by, I'd like to think we'll get quite a few decent things out of it.

Here's what I want to see:

  • Voice chat and webcam chat on WLM
  • Raise the limit of queued downloads to at least 10
  • Introduce an alerts service where you get sent a message everytime something you're watching comes out
  • Badges to go on your gamercard (e.g. completed 10 retail games, completed 5 XBLA games, etc.)
  • Proper chat rooms on the dashboard, like back on the Xbox!
  • Picture-In-Picture webcam chat when playing games or watching DVDs!

Thats a good list MJ, i would also like prehaps a overhaul of the layout of the dash. There is nothing wrong with the current look, just it could be redesigned slightly.

More intergration with WLM like you said with voice and webcam chat is something that should of been included last year really.

More support for reslutions which they haven't included yet such as 1440x900 and 1680x1050 (i have a 24" 1920x1200 personally but people have asked and asked for this)

I doubt alot of what you liste willl actually make it in the Spring update though

lol.. this is something i dont want to see.... its bad enough i know how much time i have put into CoD4...

haha why not, and how much time ??? i have put 800 hours into Counter Strike Source, and i know a lot of people in the 1k, 1.5k hours, its not something to be proud of but its kind of nice to see you are squeezing your moneys worth in this games.

- Complete dashboard overhaul which is not as slow - not slides from each side when you press the guide button, but popops instead.

- Dashboard with better 1080p support - my image looks very jagged compared to XMB :s

- Magic noise reduction

- If magic noise reduction possible; .mkv support

- Private chat between more than 2 people

- Preview screenshots/videos in marketplace

Much more I probably forgot

  • XBL Gold for the CONSOLE
  • Improved Menu Speeds
  • Improve How Feedback is Submited, and More Options
  • Full Codec Support
  • Adjustable Fonts/Sizes
  • Easier Way to Check Friends Online

-I'm sure everyone will agree with me on this one, XBL Gold should be for the accounts on the console, not just one account, my brother wants to play rockband and that on live, but i dont want him playing on my account to do it, it would mess up my own feedback and my achievements.

-Right now clicking the guide button, and checking friends/messages, seems very slow.

-I think the feedback options need to be changed as well...i play halo 3 with my brother all the time, and he all of a sudden decides to start betraying people. now my feedback is messed up, because they cant submit back feedback for "guest" accounts.

-This ones obvious, i want to be able to play any video format i want.

-Some of the menus on the dashboard look horrible to me, and i would like to be able to change the font, and make it smaller, so it looks sharp/clean.

-I want a way to check friends online without going through the "guide" so i dont have to die 3 or 4 times to see whos online.

Whatever we tell here, does it even matter to MS. I never seen them putting anything we talk about here in there updates.

It's always disappointing; I know I shouldn?t think that way. I just don't want to get my hopes up and then disappoint later. So in this update (if it's coming) I am no hoping anything major, just some minor updates.

And god knows I am hoping I will be wrong.

Well, they put DivX in the last update, and WLM in the update before that... they're not exactly small things.

I'd hope for better media support like x264 and mkv, although thats not likely since they're not owned by a corporation to get a license off like DivX is, and won't have the same level of support as DivX.

I wouldn't mind a complete UI overhaul. Keep the same principles of the UI, but at 1080p you can notice a few little problems, and the menus are still laggy sometimes.

Also, the media player needs work. The PS3 one is so much easier to use, and you can copy your own movies to the HDD. I can't see them allowing that though since they don't allow access to the HDD at all for anything else.

Definitely agree with you on this one ... I hate that me and my son both have to pay up to play online.

Sorry wrong thread.

I would like them to sort the My Games area out, it takes quite a while for it to list all the arcade game and demo?s on the hard drive.

It would also be nice if you could sort arcade games in to games you own and games you don?t ... another thing that?s been annoying me since the last update is defaults to showing every game and demo on the console... although not exactly a major problem it would be nice if this area of the dashboard was improved.

The reason I am not upbeat about the media thing it that I have connected my PC, 360 & PS3 to same monitor. There's no reason for me to use media extender to move stuff around.

The only thing I would like it to get 16:10 support but it's almost three years and we still haven?t seen anything close.

I want an option to not publish session scores online. For example, if I am having a "bad day" on Halo 3 or something similar, I can choose not to show my match scores online.

He he he, good luck with that one!

I forgot to add, I actually have something to suggest.

Deleting XBLA game demos off my achievements list. Game demos don't go down on there, why should XBLA ones?

I want something done about the DVD drive noise! I really don't want to consistently hear that blow dryer and I supposedly have the "quieter" BenQ drive; quiet relative to what I wonder. Also, the disc doesn't have to spin when just idling on the dashboard.

    • For a guy who claims to hate Farage and the ignorant, gullible, rightwing racist skinheads sponsored by Putin that his lies represent, you sure are quoting them time and time and time again, mate. I guess you're conveniently ignoring the fact that your country and commonwealth just happened to work much better when it was still part of the E.U.? Denial isn't just a river in Egypt.
    • Do you live in the U.K? Do any of the people here that are against the UK leaving the E.U, live in the U.K? If not then why are you bothered? If you do live here then it is a different thing . Brexit was a good idea, should have done it years before, it was done badly, but the idea was good. You are saying the same thing as remainers do, oh we did what Putin wanted, we listened to the lies and Farage. I hate Farage and never believed most of what he said, certainly did not believe the £350m a week for the NHS. But we did pay a lot of money to the E.U and yes some of it came back, but what is the point of paying it out for only some of it to come back? Get out of the E.U, no money to them and in theory we can use the money to do things in the country. I said in theory, but our governments are a total and complete waste of space. No matter what colour rosette they wear. You and others say it was a mistake and yet the two main parties in the U.K are not looking at rejoining the EU, I wonder why that is? I was not tricked by anyone. Makes no odds now, we are out and have been for 10 years, what we need is a decent government to run the country. All they do is shout at each other like a load of kids and seems to do nothing and make this country more into a police and nanny state. Getting more like China all the time.

    • Yeah... The root of my comment, ostensibly, is how to spin the story via the actual technical merits of the solution! * Decentralized (aka federated) solution with built-in encrypted ephemeral message transport, * Transport via Relays (intermediary servers) with no message archival, * Second configurable pathway are actual email servers (if DNS records are programmed accordingly) via IMAP protocols carriage, * "Chat-over-Email" is the design pattern adopted; it can either leverage full-blown Email Server (must use the INBOX folder) to exchange all received messages/edits/reactions (so be weary of notifications overloads) [best practice is creating a separate email acct used explicitly for federated chat purposes!] or leverage its built-in Relay Server mechanism which actually resides on-device (by default but can be configured otherwise), * By virtue of be a decentralized/federated model, all other intermediary servers who may pass-along messages (while the recipient's final relay/device is inaccessible) cannot snoop on the messages due to the encrypted nature of contents. The intermediaries may, however, analyze the metadata due to the simple fact that routing mechanisms require hints for relay destinations. Unfortunately, whomever is posting about DeltaChat across socials are misleading with "zero metadata" claims -- especially when the Relays (according to their own technical documents) mandate the addition of chat-version metadata and other decorations in order to actually transport any message. -- Based on this summary, I'd prefer if they'd better dual-path message transport (email server add-in, federated relay engine) rather than patch-on email protocols to existing federated social media frameworks. They're frankensteining something rather than extending widely-deployed technology stacks.
