What do you want to see in the Spring Update?

Recommended Posts

People seem to be requesting more information on updates and stuff.

Personally, I think this could be done just be revamping the "inside xbox" thing. Rather than a new slide every day focusing on ONE thing (more often than not, something completely irrelevant or pointless or just a blatant ad for a game that's not selling as well as it should), it should have different sections, one for the stupid every day news we get now, one for upcoming and released updates, one for DLC, etc.

Better yet, make it like an RSS section that you can subscribe to, so you only get the updates YOU want to see.

The guy(s) who said Gold activates a console, not accounts - Good idea, but what happens when you recover your gamertag on someones console who doesn't pay for gold? You don't get access to gold?

Right now you could go round your mates and he's on silver, but if you recover your tag you can be gold.

True, I didn't think of it that way ... I'm game for the cheaper option, maybe give people that are on auto-renew an price break for being loyal live subscribers ... eh, oh well, we're definitely out of the realm of the Spring Update now ...

I do like some of the theming ideas people have brought up, as well as NTFS support ...

Maybe we will see it sometime in the next month or two.

Seems like it really should be out. It was about this time the Spring update came out last year. Maybe MS didn't feel the need to roll out any kind of update this Spring and wait until the Fall before updating the dashboard.

I would find this highly disappointing though like alot of other people.

I guess i would be happy with MKV support more than anything aswell as reading NTFS drives.

Technically, the spring update can come out anytime between now and like the middle of June, because it'll still be "spring." Otherwise they'd have to call it the Summer Update.

Exactly. My guess will be middle of June.

To those above who want a faster dashboard etc (when you press the Xbox logo), they already sped that up a little bit in the Fall Update (07), but I just don't think it was to the extent that everybody wanted.

Somebody mentioned the feedback issue above, and I agree with the fact that it needs to be easier to get to because when it is so buried, I don't bother with it half the time when I should.

I like all the ideas here.

I still want 16:10 support for monitors. Heck, all they have to do is put horizontal bars to make it 16:9 and I'm fine.

Edit: Also, I'd love an ability to keep ALL downloaded updates instead of simply caching them. I hate switching through games a lot and having to download updates for all of them because it wasn't one of the last 3 games played (or whatever it is).

Yeah, spring =P

And spring is not until September. When will they stop saying Fall 08, etc when publishing games or somthing like that. What make them think it's the same season all over the world. Al they do is confuse people. I don't know what the season dates are in the US!

And the Xbox360 dash is fine as it is. Just need more support for media files streaming from PC.

who uses a web browser on there console...that a total pain, and dosnt make much sense to do.

Yes. I'm actually curious now that it's brought up, what percent of all PS3 owners actually use the browser. I doubt it's even double digits, and if that be the case, it wouldn't exactly be something MS would put time into.

I personally don't want them to spend time on a browser - I'll use my computer to do that (and if it's really pertinent that I be on the internet and on my 360 at the same time, I have a laptop).

Its a nice feature to have

I dont use it for intensive use - I dont turn on my PS3 whenever I want to check a website or mail..

But when my PS3 is turned on and Im already sitting at it I might as well check that website and mail there.

Its also great for showing Youtube videos to your friends/family since your TV is usually bigger than your monitor

- Not to mention not having to turn on a laptop/desktop just to read a walkthrough/hint on gamefaqs because you hit a dead-end :(

- Not to mention minimizing power bills by running 1 machine instead of 2

- Not to mention helping the environment by running 1 machine instead of 2

- Not to mention blah blah blah

:p

It has many uses - certainly wont do you any BAD by including it in the X360!

More bang for the buck

Wouldn't you rather do it on a laptop so that you could have both open at the same time?

I really don't see the whole fuss about a web browser. Sure, it'd be nice, but really it's just a "because I can" kind of thing. Certainly has no real, legitimate use. Besides... do we really need another Internet Explorer disaster? :p

I use the PS3 browser to download custom themes directly to the system.

I also remembered something else I'd love to see in the Spring Update: faster population of lists on the Dashboard. Like, when you go to the Demos screen to play a demo you've downloaded, it takes forever to create the list. Same with XBLA games, videos, and so forth.

Yeah, I've always wondered why that takes so long. I assume it's polling the hard drive for the files, but surely it could store the list in a little cache somewhere and update THAT on the fly as is needed?

The marketplace always seems slow for me as well. Not downloading, just listing all of the games and stuff. Surely text should download quickly?

The speed has actually been much improved over previous version of the Dashboard. But I agree, with enough titles it still can be seen as a bit slow. Not a ground-breaking feature though, I wouldn't mind if they didn't bother. The speed is quick enough for me. It's the actual UI that needs to be sped up. Although it is faster, again, it's not as fast as it should be. Plus, when I hit the Guide button again to dismiss the blade, there is a slight 'hang' that occurs in certain games. I hope they address this issue.

I agree, this needs to be addressed this Spring.

I just wonder what MS are actually doing in regards to the every 6 months update because at this rate we might even see an update. I hope it does come and the sooner we hear an announcement the better.

1. Bigger/clan private chat - The current 1 on 1 sucks. Simple as that.

2. Speed up the dashboard - During some games, I need to check a message or something..It takes ages (it seems), especially when playing CoD or something thats fast paced.

    • So what am I quoting from them? I never listened to what Farage or his cronies said. I wanted the U.K to leave the E.u years before the referendum and it had nothing to do with Farage and his cronies. So what country do you live in? Did we work much better together? We were always at logger heads with the E.U because we disagreed with them so much. Maggie was always on at them. I would have thought the E.U was glad to get rid of us as we stopped the integration or made it a two tier. Now without us they can integrate more. I would not have voted out if it was just a trading block and we can still work together on somethings.

    • Apple reportedly looks to blacklisted Chinese memory chips as RAM prices climb by Karthik Mudaliar Image via Apple Apple is reportedly trying to get a clearance from the Trump administration to buy memory from ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) to get some relief from soaring DRAM prices. As per a report by the Financial Times, Apple approached the Commerce Department more than a month ago and also spoke to other officials and allies in Washington. For starters, CXMT is a company that's already been placed on the Pentagon's list of Chinese military companies. The Chinese company is the country's top DRAM maker. For Apple, the timing is certainly awkward but not surprising. Tim Cook had recently warned that Apple would have to raise prices because AI companies are buying up large amounts of memory for data centers, and just like that, Apple raised MacBook and iPad prices. Micron also recently revealed that customers have committed billions of dollars to secure memory supply years in advance, which shows us how aggressive securing infrastructure has become. This gives suppliers such as Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron more leverage, while pushing hardware makers to look for alternatives. CXMT is one of those alternatives, but not the simplest one. Apple has spent many years trying to diversify parts of its supply chain away from China, especially for final assembly, while still depending heavily on Chinese manufacturing and suppliers. Even domestic brands from China are moving towards CXMT and YMTC instead of relying on Samsung, Micron, and SK Hynix. For Apple, though, it would invite more scrutiny than local Chinese companies. For now, this is more like a lobbying effort rather than a confirmed supply deal. There's no official statement from either of the parties. What is clearer, though, is the pressure behind such a request. AI demand has certainly made hardware a bottleneck, and companies are trying everything they can to bring things back to normal, even if that means making politically sensitive choices. • I did test it a month or so back, but ... the results I expect to be on the first page are not there.
    • Neowin is saying these are good prices? Thats crazy. As others have said they are just ######. Time for big tech to bring down the prices for real not this fake crap.
