A few things were confirmed by Activision today:

-It will be released on PC and consoles simultaneously. It will NOT be a console-only game as previously rumored.

-CoD5 will take place in a "new military theater". Where/what/when this is, has not been confirmed.

-Since Treyarch is developing the new James Bond game, it is unknown if CoD5 will be developed by is Infinity Ward (CoD2, CoD4) or remain with Treyarch (CoD:UO, CoD3).

-It is projected to be released by March 31, 2009 (end of Activision's fiscal year).

-Rumor has it that the Pacific Theater is the new setting for CoD5.

God no, not Pacific, such a boring setting - Just stick with Modern!

If it is Pacific, Alantic, Red Sea... w/e. Its gonna be good. Infinity Ward knows it stuff and is gonna make another one hell of a game.

2 things are required for me to buy CoD5.

1. It has to stay in the modern timeframe. NO MORE WWI/WWII era shooters.

2. It has to be made by Infinity Ward.

WWI and WWII just lead up to Marden Warfare... Why would they go back? Anyways...

I do agree that it needs to be made by Infinity Ward. They did an awesome job with with COD4

I want destructable buildings in the next one

a well optimized engine

more realistic sky backdrops

more freedom to move around in levels, stop placing bits of debris or lumps of metal in random spots so you have to keep the fighting in one area.

less missions were u are stuck on a turret blowing stuff up or at least make it so you can gon on foot or in a vechicle.

probably more but i can't think of any...

That was an awesome game (CoD4).

As in, the best PC game I've played since Half-Life 2.

It better be made by IW. IMO, CoD3 sucked, and it was Treyarch's fault.

And I agree that a modern setting is better than WWI/WWII. But NO future combat. I would cry if they did to CoD4 what happened to BF2 and BF2142 (IMO, 2142 is no better than a BF2 mod).

How so?

It jumped to and fro between two different characters, back in time to a previous mission with a previous charater, and then united brilliantly at the end.

But it was short :(

Thats what made it so good in my opinion... But yea it was short... I beat it on Hardcore in a day.

Although I dont understand the last mission. The one with the hostage on the plane. That gave me a hardtime on hardcore.

Call of Duty may be short, but It's a game you just need to complete on Veteran - 'Else you haven't really played the game

Agreed.

Not playing Veteran is like playing a demo of it.

The TV Station mission... If you got through it in like 5-10 minutes then you werent playing Veteran.

Took me like an hour to beat that mission.

Offtopic: on CoD4, on the level where you're in the missile base, trying to get to the launch control center, you know how you go through a hall with a bunch of enemies on the sides, and then through another hall, around some crates, and down stairs?

Then there's a part with another tunnel, but the way forward is blocked, so you have to go to the side? I can't get past there. Which way should I be going (left, right, where else?)?

The TV station... That was a bitch to beat. I kept getting killed.

I'm praying for that as well. They probably will, if they've got a brain in them. CoD4 is the biggest selling one in the franchise, and it was a major departure from the rest of the series, so it's best to keep to that trend.

2. It has to be made by Infinity Ward.

Not gonna happen. Activision have an agreement with Infinity Ward and Treyarch. IW do the even numbered games, and Treyarch do the odd numbered games, so considering Treyarch's last effort (CoD3), this one will probably suck.

Why is everyone whining about a WWI/WWII CoD5 game? In the OP, it says that CoD5 will take place in a "new military theatre". That could mean a futuristic BF2142-esque game or a modern combat game. My only hope is that Infinity Ward develops the game.

I thought I read back months ago that even Treyarch was already making COD 5, even with other games in development. Did they also go back on the statement that they said it was "going to be in the Pacific (1942 era)"?

I was just a bit surprised by all the shock because I thought we went through this once already.

I bet they said the same thing with CoD3, and we ended up with a certain part of WWII.

Personally, I'd love to see it done BF2142-style! You can go as crazy as you want when you set a game in the future, so let them go nuts!

    • >defenders of AI-generated artworks often claim that AI is just a tool It is not. It is the inhuman artist replacement. The human writing the prompt is the employer/manager requesting the work product of the artist -- a supervisory/descriptive job that doesn't carry with it any rights to the copyright of that work product at all. And since AI is not human itself, it can't gain copyright for anything it is asked to regurgitate or hallucinate, so it can't transfer that copyright to the employer/manager/human who asked for the output. This was all legally reaffirmed last year. So, no, while there are AI tools, AI slopware generation is NOT a "tool" in the legal definition of that word.

    • Google is opening the world's first AI museum in Los Angeles by Ivan Jenic Image via: Google Ever since AI image generators went mainstream, the debate over whether AI-generated art is real art hasn't let up. Those who don’t consider AI to be art say that if a machine does the creating and anyone can prompt it, there’s no skill involved, and therefore no art is produced. The counter-argument is equally persistent, as defenders of AI-generated artworks often claim that AI is just a tool, and that every major technological breakthrough, like the camera or the computer, was met with the same skepticism before eventually being accepted as a legitimate creative medium. Google’s position in this debate is clear. Which is no surprise, as the company is investing billions in AI infrastructure. And now, in efforts to encourage people to use its AI even more, Google is opening Dataland on June 20, which it's calling the world's first AI arts museum. Located inside The Grand LA, a Frank Gehry-designed building in Los Angeles, the museum spans 25,000 square feet. The museum is built around a collaboration with media artist Refik Anadol, who has worked with Google since 2016. The inaugural exhibition is called Machine Dreams: Rainforest, and is powered by an AI model trained on “an extensive dataset of the natural world.” It generates 1.2 billion pixels of visuals in real time and reacts to visitors dynamically. The space also generates soundscapes, real-time emotion sensing, and algorithmically produced scents. Image via: Refik Anadol Studio / Google Google says that the museum is powered by its Gemini models, which run on Google Cloud. So, everything is generated inside one of Google’s AI data centers and is streamed to the museum. Alongside the museum opening, Google Arts & Culture is funding an AI Artist Residency, giving four artists $25,000 grants each, along with mentorship from Refik Anadol Studio and access to Google's machine learning tools. Their work will be shown at Dataland and on the Google Arts & Culture website later this year. Google’s AI museum will undoubtedly initiate a fired-up debate on social media, and we can’t wait to see the first reactions. Via: Smithsonian Magazine
    • Calling GTA 6 overhyped crap doesn’t make you edgy, it just makes you sound like someone who hasn’t enjoyed anything since the PS2 era.
    • I’m not arguing whether Rockstar likes money. Obviously, they do, they’re a business. I’m saying this isn’t new. They’ve always launched console first. This is just how Rockstar operates.
