Shift Developmental Meeting Discussion

Recommended Posts

Hey Team,

We discussed several items and job duties at today's meeting:

1) bmaher has agreed to develop Shift KDE. He will also look into some apps / drivers we can add to make Shift more exclusive.

2) The rest of our team is as follows: Kitch - Gnome development, MarkJensen- Fluxbox development, Commodore Max and Cosmin- graphics for all versions, Peachey- wiki development, DaveLegg and Simon360- website upkeep.

3) We discussed several issues:

- Finding apps that will set us apart from Ubuntu. Since we are starting fresh, let's step away from the Ubuntu mold.......

- Looking into adding drivers for a Tablet version. bmaher has agreed to look into it.

- Creating a 64 bit version of Shift Linux

- Creating a roadmap, so we can get a timetable for releases

If you guys can look at these items and add your input, I'd appreciate it. I'd like to see if we can set a release date of mid summer for the versions we are working on now.

Thanks a bunch.......

Barney

Was looking into getting a nice graphical wallpaper selection for the flux install. I am thinking nitrogen. * (note: nitrogen is not in the ubuntu repos, as far as I could tell with a seach of my xubuntu install)

If you use flux, you normally have to set from the command line, or you can add your wallpaper directory into your menu and be presented all the image filenames there.

But you cannot view thumbnails. Unless you use an app like nitrogen.

I haven't looked into dependencies and such. If it drags in a bunch of libraries we don't already use, I think we should ditch the idea. But if it fits in well, I think it should be added.

I agree with pretty much everything in this. Especially the roadmap and scheduling part, we have to have a strict schedule and a cleanly outlined set of objectives we want to accomplish.

I can't believe I missed this meeting again. My stupid car broke down in Tesco's yesterday afternoon and I had to wait over 2 hours, yes 2 damn hours to get it fixed. Grr.

Anyway, I'll have a look for some cool / different apps for shift and also have a look into a 64bit distro also :)

We will start posting development items in the dev team area. Let me know if any of you guys are not able to access that area!

Thanks :)
