  1. 1. Is it worthwhile me taking out the extended warranty (2 years) on my new 360?

Hey.

Got my Xbox 360 (first console ever) last Thursday. Been playing GTA IV on it fine, no problems what-so-ever.

It's a Falcon chipset, and has the better Benq DVD drive.

I received a flyer in the box offering an additional 2 years warranty (for all issues, not just RROD) from Microsoft for just under ?60.

I can't seem to decide whether it's worth me doing so or not.

I assume if I have a problem in the first 12 months (whether it's RRoD, or something else), it'll be fixed free of charge, but after the 12 months, MS will only fix RRoD free (for 36 months).. but if I take out the extended warranty, then any issue is covered for 36 months. Is this correct?

Is there anybody who's taken this warranty out and had an issue receiving support after the 12 months? Is the support of a good standard?

Am I likely to benefit by taking the warranty out, or is it probably just going to be a waste of money.. obviously I know this depends on whether the console fails, but with it being one of the newer units (Manufactured March 2008, Team FDOU) there's presumably a much lower chance of it failing?

I'm adding a poll to this, so please vote.

Thanks for your input:))

No?!? :o Really?

Damn. I wasn't aware of that. :/

If you're still under the standard warranty (either 90 days or 1 year depending on your country), you can still purchase the extended warranty.

I say it is definitely worth it. Even though their customer support is ****-poor, it's still a good reassurance that you have a 'free' exchange should you ever need it.

    • It saddens me when cars are such dull colours now. Mine is bright metallic blue and I absolutely adore it for standing out in contrast to that depressing backdrop of traffic.

    • lol it was a typo, fixed! haha imagine an actual 4TB Gen4 NVMe for $40 in 2026
    • Get over it, has nothing to do with my point.
    • I really don't like these rounded corners and huge borders in the viewport. They just waste space without anything in return.
