Air Force Aims for 'Full Control' of 'Any and All' Computer

Recommended Posts

I think this makes complete sense. The problem for the air force has been that some countries have been using computers to locate stealth bombers using things like cell phone towers: http://www.globalsecurity.org/org/news/200...619stealths.htm

The intent may be to control computers domestically, but I think the larger objective is information warfare when they are flying over dangerous countries.

Why? Do you think they would stop at the software? They could force something in hardware (that can't be disabled)... So even the "free" software won't help you.

So I won't buy the hardware...

Glad you got what you paid for.

And since that has nothing to do with anything, try to stay on topic a little.

It has everything to do with the topic. I'm talking free as freedom, of course. Free software will never have this kind of control built in. If free software somehow disappeared or was outlawed then I would stop using a computer.

Why are you guys all talking about how they will spy on "us"? You do know that the purpose of this is to be able to spy on other nations and to make sure that we keep tabs on anything that they do using their computers. This is to virtually spy on other nations, not on the people of this one. Although, I wouldn't be surprised if that's the next step. The main focus will for sure be on other places though, so far this thread has been off-topic.

they already spy on us. just look at the figures for wire taps and all that garbage since the patriot act. do you really think they wouldn't just add this tech to the list where it available? i understand that the 'core' use is spying on other countries, but that does not mean it wont be used at home. which borders on treason. however, no one seems to really care any more. for reasons i cant fathom the majority of the US is almost begging to give away their liberty's for a false sense of security. people need to tare themselves away from CNN for a half hour and go do their own research about the presidential directives, the home grown terror act, the complete removal of habeas corpus. its already very far gone, but because the media doesn't report on it people dont feel its a big deal. mark my word, if it was the year 1800 our fore-fathers would be marching down Pennsylvania Avenue with torches and pitchforks.

They (again) are bluffing with BS, even if was possible to go inside a (enemy) pc, then still are several ways to encrypt/hidden the information, and if it was possible, then they will need A LOT OF TIME for search the information per pc.

it wouldn't be a guy physically navigating the tree. it would be a bot flagging stuff for an individual to review later.

Glad i live in Canada, even though the government up here seems to be taking notes on how to screw our rights like the american one

Uhm...just to point something out, whether you're in Canada or China or Zimbabwe, if you have an internet connection, you'd be open to this. And the point of this is not necessarily to get to systems in the U.S., but to get to the systems the terrorist and cyber-terrorists are using, which usually are not in the country they are attacking. In other words, it don't matter where you are, they'll find ya.

Now, as stated previously, let them check my system out. I have nothing to hide. Well, maybe some questionably obtained software...and some mp3s...and maybe a movie or two...CRAP!!!

Now's the time for Internet3, created by users, for users.

We can bypass the internet and verisign, make new web domain extensions and have FireBat, navigating thru FRLs like I3WP::C-Dir-File.ph_p

Oh yes and obvesly everyone would have at least 56Kbps upload and download speeds, thats next generation! We can beat the big ISPs by far, all for Free!!111one

*/end sarcasm*

Oh god! I hope it fails horribly and gets blocked. Hello, aren't we allowed to have privacy? And don't tell me that this won't be used in unethical ways.

I'm getting my tin-foil hat here. because in all honesty, this type of big brother crap scares me.

+1

We have got to step up to this.

But no one seems to care..

Where in the article (aside from the intro) does it say they want control over our computers? All i read was that they are working on the ability to take down computers used by hostile forces and defend their networks.

So Cyber Terrorists can do whatever they want and the Air Force can't fight back. Absurd.

Can you name some of these so-called cyberterrorism incidents that you think are happening?

What's absurd is how gullible the American public continues to be.

This is to virtually spy on other nations, not on the people of this one.

ROFL.

Oh crap, now they can see all my personal email correspondence with osama bin laden.

oh, i live in norway, they can't touch me :p

I feel sorry for the American public, in order to be "free" they all have to be watched by "big brother".

The American government is pathetic and scared. They are SO afraid of getting their wars on their own soil.

Well, that would be better than them going overseas to fight for <insert peoples/countrys name here>'s freedom,

and than leave the country in ruins, and next; UN to the rescue and cleanup. Then the US can sit back and drink

their OIL...whops, oh no, i used the O-word!

And even better, when norway said that their soldiers were not mercenaries, and the US military did not

have a saying on where they were to travel and defend/fight in Afghanistan, some hothead in the US government

said norway was "unpatriotic". Well, we are not americans, we cannot be patriotic to USA,can we?

I wish the American government could just implode :p

Btw; i know not all americans are not of the same opinion and ideas.

Well I can see everyone's point of what about security. But since I'm the first digital generation the entire time I've used a computer I've always assumed that no matter how hard you secure something it can be unlocked by someone more determined. So if you have something to hide like say all that pr0n and warez than yes I can see why all the complaining about cyber privacy is warranted in your case because you don't want some hacker or gov't minion to see what "floats your boat." My generation has talked about this kind of thing happening for 20 years so in our book it more like "Finally it's happening" versus "How dare they." There has never been such a thing as true freedom-just the illusion to exercise free will in a controlled environment.

Where in the article (aside from the intro) does it say they want control over our computers? All i read was that they are working on the ability to take down computers used by hostile forces and defend their networks.

Shush! Don't ruin the fun of the "Americans are gullible" folk...

    • Microsoft admits one of the most crucial Outlook features is currently broken by Sayan Sen Microsoft is making some decent progress when it comes to Windows 11. Recently we have confirmed reports of some rather useful improvements landing in the next version of the OS, 26H2, wherein GPU driver TDR crashes may finally be fixed, plus the company is also allowing users to disable web content on the Search. On the Outlook front though things have not been so rosy. Last month in May we reported several problems affecting basic functionalities on the app. These included a problem where documents would open blank or corrupt themselves. Following that, Quick Steps, a very useful feature, would no longer work correctly, and finally, Microsoft acknowledged a problem wherein images would fail to load up properly inside the email. Microsoft had resolved those bugs later and almost exactly a month after we reported on them, the company has now admitted a new similarly basic issue, this time on Macs. Users recently started noticing that Outlook would no longer display email threads properly as the original message itself was not displayed. An affected user Tsoumpas, C (ngmb) nicely described the problem in a forum post they made on Microsoft's site. They wrote: "Description of the issue: After updating Outlook for Mac [Version 16.110 (26061317)] on 18/6/2026, replying to any email no longer includes the original message in the reply window. Prior to the update, replies correctly contained the original email text below my response. Expected behavior: The original message should be included in the reply, as in previous Outlook versions and according to the configured reply settings. Actual behavior: The reply window contains only a blank composition area (or only my response), with none of the original email text included." Obviously this must be a highly frustrating for users as noted by several in that thread. The post, at the time of writing, has also been upvoted by more than 40 users indicating that is a fairly widespread bug. Thankfully Microsoft seems to have acknowledged the problem right around that time as it opened a new issue on its official website. In the support article, the company recommends switching to Outlook for Mac from the legacy app, where the problem appears to be happening.
