Solar Energy Bra Powers Phones & iPods

Recommended Posts

TOKYO (Reuters) - Ladies, take your battle for the environment a little closer to your heart with a solar-powered bra that can generate enough electric energy to charge a mobile phone or an iPod.

Lingerie maker Triumph International Japan Ltd unveiled its environmentally friendly, and green colored, "Solar Power Bra" on Wednesday in Tokyo which features a solar panel worn around the stomach.

The panel requires light to generate electricity and the concept bra will not be in stores anytime soon, said Triumph spokeswoman Yoshiko Masuda, as "people usually can not go outside without wearing clothes over it."

But it does send the message of how lingerie could possibly save the planet, Masuda said, adding that the bra should not be washed or sunned on a rainy day to avoid damaging it.

Being eco-friendly is now fashionable in Japan, and the "Solar Energy Bra" follows the company's other green-themed undergarments that include a bra that turns into a reusable shopping bag and one that featured metal chopsticks to promote the use of reusable chopsticks.

"It is very comfortable and I can really feel involved in eco-friendly efforts as well," model Yuko Ishida said.

Okay, so let me get this straight..

You can't really wear it outside (in the sun) and you can't put clothes over it.

How is this thing supposed to save the world, when it actually has, no useable purpose? Besides, how much power do you really need to charge an iPod or a mobile phone. You could just as easily get that off your PC, it wouldn't cost anything extra (AFAIK).

Solar powered boobs.... They get bigger when it's bright and smaller when it's dark.

A photosynthesis for boobs!

It'll please both sexes. Ladies can have sex with the light on, because most men will want to have as much light as possible.

A 'healthy' girl walks into a bar wearing a solar energy bra.

Nerd1: "Woh, you could power an entire network with those puppies".

Nerd2 then disputes the figures, he whips out his...

HP Calculator and they would both lose interest in the female.

My not a jiggle motion generator? you have elastic like bands that generate electriticy from the jiggleing movement created by the breasts bounching when walking? that'd um be much smaller and look more like a standard one... they have stuff like this in boots now for armies when they march they charge their devices with... move it into a bra... or pants or anything that moves... give them a reason to make em bounce

Ha! I have a great Gif image of this but it probably would violate the rules. :)

Why be sexist about this? Why not have a solar panel hat for guys?

A solar powered undergarment in inherently impractical. However, it is a very good way to attract attention at a trade show and with the media.

Presumably the company that designed this item is planning on bringing more practical items (like solar paneled hats) to market. Perhaps the rest of their booth contained more mundane items.

Without the bra and the pretty girl, however, would we be talking about this? Sex sells.

    • I just wish they would put more love into Virtual Desktops. There is just so much more they could do.
    • Sounds like you just skimmed over the review, I answer all those questions in it. Although I admit I did not test if DTS works over the headphones, when I get some time I will test this. My personal use case is more speaker-driven (I cover this in the review too).
    • It actually does the same exact thing as yours, 7.1 virtual surround over headphones. From the product page: "Experience sound that surrounds you with 7.1 virtual surround, delivering a wider, more immersive soundstage for movies, games, and music." So both of them are two channel, with 7.1 virtual surround that only work in Headphones mode.
