Captain America: The First Avenger (July 2011)

Are you serious, Rappy? :o I nearly fell out of my chair laughing when I saw him like that for the first time. Moments later, I said to myself "Damn, he actually looks skinny." The CGI looks great to me. If it looks bad, it's because his face doesn't match his body. And after seeing the trailer, his voice doesn't match it either.

yeah which makes it lame imo, he could of gone all christian bale and actually lost the weight

here I was amped and ready to be proven wrong and then the worst bit of cgi I have seen in a long time appears

No way, bad cgi is young Jeff Bridges in Tron Legacy.

It looks weird and out of place because you actually know what he looks like, doesn't look bad.

They had to go extreme, being just skinny wouldn't have cut it.

And after seeing the trailer, his voice doesn't match it either.

I have a lot of people who think that my voice doesn't match my body either. I'm 5'3", 155 lbs (not fat, just a lot of muscle mass), and a deep bass singing voice (similar to Josh Turner, if you are familiar with country music at all).

That CGI isn't bad at all, there are movies with far, far worse CGI. I just think Rappy wants this to fail badly.

I don't want it to fail because heh the more Marvel movies the better! but I didn't like the fact Evans was cast and with everything I have seen so far hasn't redeemed it...its just my opinion and one that I think is very rare because everyone seems to be loving it but it still remains an opinion. Of course its going to clean up at the box office and we are going to get sequels for years to come. I for one am looking forward to Thor a hell of alot more.

Captain America Footage shown at CinemaCon

The first clip is essentially how the movie opens with two military men meeting someone out in the colds of the Arctic and being led to an enormous egg-like object protruding out from the snow; the camera pulls away to show that it's been found in a fairly remote area with nothing around. We don't want to say too much about this opening scene except that Captain America won't be encased in an iceberg like he was in the comics, as they're going for a more realistic approach to how he gets from the WWII era to today. We will say that the scene ends with the men finding Cap's trademark shield covered in ice. Rogers' is led into Howard Stark's lab and we get to see some of the camaraderie between Rogers and Stark, who plays a fairly major role in the creation of Captain America.

Stark walks Rogers through his lab showing him prototypes for a shield he can use in battle - we even briefly see the cool '40s style shield Cap used to carry before it was replaced with the circular shield that was better suited for throwing. Rogers picks up a shiny metal round shield and Stark tells him that it's a prototype made out of vibranium*, a rare metal that is impervious to anything, and when Peggy walks in, Cap asks her what she thinks and as in the trailer, she picks up a gun and shoots at him then comments, "It works." This interaction is even funnier when seen in context with the sexual tension established earlier between Evans and Atwell. (*Along with the mention of Wakanda in Iron Man 2, this certainly looks promising for Marvel doing something with Black Panther in the future, assuming of course that it wasn't part of Fox's Fantastic Four deal.)

Thor and Cap get sequels!

Thor will go off into a new adventure, and Captain America will continue to explore the modern world in another film of his own. We hope that holds true for the characters appearing in that film ? Black Widow, Hawkeye, and the spy organization, S.H.I.E.L.D. ?all of whom are more than worthy and capable of carrying their own films.

And, we?ve got a lot of other characters we?re prepping and getting ready for film debuts: the world of martial arts, these great cosmic space fantasies, Dr. Strange, and the magic side of the Marvel Universe. There are many, many stories to be mined.

This excerpt has been translated from French so it may be a little rough in some parts.

The film is set at 95% during the Second World War, but it starts today, for extracting a block of ice containing a mysterious figure, block located in the wreckage of a giant bomber. The film also ends in our time.

- The Shield: It is manufactured by Howard Stark, and the white parts are vibranium an indestructible alloy created by Stark Industries [vibranium it is therefore artificial, different from natural vibranium Wakanda, home of the Black Panther] . In his "discovery" in the present, the shield of Captain America will be alongside the hero in the ice.

- Skull and Red Cube: The Cosmic Cube is hidden in a church in Norway. Red Skull uses a tank to enter. The Cube is used to power a variety of vehicles, including the famous giant bomber, carrying bombs have targeted major U.S. cities and European capitals.

- Bucky and the Invaders: Bucky Barnes, and soldiers freed a camp of the HYDRA form a group called the Invaders [but then where are the Howling Commandos? Normally, the Invaders team is composed of superheroes as Namor, the origins Torch, Toro, Union Jack, Spitfire ...].

- An error / a Freudian slip? Stephen Broussard co-producer discusses the meeting of superheroes in 2012 as follows: Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Ant-Man and the Wasp in the Avengers movie. [until now, the presence of Hank Pym and his wife has always been rejected.]

- A subject of the movie Iron Man 2 was used in Captain America [???].

Apparently they did some reshooting recently...so here is what I hope they did:

My after credits scene: All the Avengers are hanging out in some S.H.I.E.L.D. facility. Stark is like: "where is the Captain (Captain America)?" Then Nick Fury explains: "he is on a joy ride with some Navy SEALs in Pakistan." Cut scene. A compound in Pakistan. A bunch of terrorist-looking/bodyguard folks watching daytime soaps hear a helicopter buzzing above. SEALs drop down from everywhere, shooting up some terrorists. Then Captain America barges down a door (cue the awesome music from the trailer), starts shooting away with his awesome shield, then he looks and points his gun towards the camera. You hear some whiny terrorist screaming for Allah from the perspective of the viewer (not seen from the viewer, in front of Captain America, whom he is pointing his gun towards). BANG. Cut to black.

Now it might seem too soon to even vaguely suggest Captain America killed Osama bin Laden, but if WWII vets have to deal with Marvel's and Quentin Tarantino's revision of WWII, then I am sure we can handle some War on Terror revisionism.

    • OpenAI and Broadcom unveil Jalapeño, a new AI chip built for LLM inference by Pradeep Viswanathan Image by OpenAI Thanks to the exponential growth of ChatGPT and other LLM-based applications, NVIDIA has grown from a $200 billion company into the first public company to reach a $5 trillion market cap. Even though hyperscalers such as Google and Amazon have their own mature AI accelerators, NVIDIA still dominates the AI infrastructure market with multiple generations of GPUs. Microsoft, OpenAI, and Meta remain among NVIDIA’s largest customers, while Google and Amazon continue to be significant NVIDIA customers as they serve AI workloads for customers on their cloud platforms. Today, OpenAI and Broadcom announced Jalapeño, OpenAI’s first custom “Intelligence Processor” designed specifically for large language model inference. The new chip is the first product from a multi-generation compute platform being developed by OpenAI. OpenAI highlighted that Jalapeño was built from the ground up for current and future LLM workloads, rather than being a general-purpose accelerator adapted for AI. Despite heavy competition from Gemini, Claude, Copilot, and others, ChatGPT remains the most used AI platform in the world. OpenAI mentioned that it leveraged its knowledge of how its models and products run at scale, including ChatGPT, Codex, the API, and future agentic AI systems, to design this new chipset. Its chip architecture reduces data movement while balancing compute, memory, and networking resources. Jalapeño will be deployed in production systems starting in late 2026; however, engineering samples are already running machine learning workloads in OpenAI’s labs at production target frequency and power. According to its internal testing, OpenAI claims this chip can deliver “substantially better” performance per watt, and a detailed technical report is expected in the coming months. While OpenAI designed the chip, Broadcom handled silicon implementation and networking technologies, including Tomahawk networking silicon, and Celestica is assisting with board, rack, and system-level integration. OpenAI pointed out that Jalapeño went from initial design to manufacturing tape-out in just nine months, which it claims is the fastest ASIC development cycle achieved for a high-performance advanced semiconductor. The company attributed the speed of development to its own LLMs, which were used during the chip design and optimization process. Broadcom CEO Hock Tan stated that the company's plan is to deploy the Jalapeño platform at a gigawatt scale with Microsoft and other partners starting in 2026. With Jalapeño, OpenAI joins Google, Microsoft, and Amazon to become a full-stack AI player. The company already develops models and products, and is now moving deeper into infrastructure, including chips, kernels, networking, scheduling, and deployment systems.
