Eset Apologises for blunder

Recommended Posts

first drop from them with all this years i've been sticking with them...

when first this happened i was already going to uninstall NOD , then they fixed it fast enough and thats good for them...

i think one more thing like this and i am going away after alot of time sticking and advising NOD :/

Yes this is a big OOPS from nod32. But name one company that has not has a bad false positive problem at one point in time. And if they haven't had one yet its not a matter of if, but when.

Heck I remember that story about norton how in the CHinese version of windows it detected some major system file as a virus. So after the update about a million computers would no longer boot.

Personally I must have got'n lucky and all 4 of my nod32 computers the same.

I had the issue recently, but it seems to be the people who allowed NOD32/ESS to auto quarantine stuff that came unstuck. No system is infallible, thus I always get my software to confirm changes to me, yes it was a huge PitA to have to allow each popup, but at least I wasnt inconvenienced (much) by it, apart from the pop-ups.

I suspect the same people who let the AV auto look after the system and have full control, are the same ones who disable UAC straight away (under Vista.) User control/verification has a lot of credence, nothing is infallible, deal with it people.

Just for the record, I have UAC disabled since day one, yet I manually approve any AV alert :) They are two VERY different things.

I managed to save most of my software but the Adobe installation is lost (I choose to leave everything alone, NOD32 did this).

Too little, too late. Just uninstalled NOD32 from all my computers.

I know it's harsh of me to judge it on this but I can't rely on something that goes haywire on every little app after one little update.

It not only messed up Adobe installation but I did some tracing .. I had 2 complete PC hangups .. related to NOD32.

Also .. on multiple computers .. I saw that NOD32 would just hang it's own GUI for no good reason.

Been having this problem for 2 months now .. no longer .. bye bye ESET...

:p which is the exception to the rule, there is always one :) But you see what I mean, you get the AV to alert you, thus you have control over the application. Most people who disable UAC as I said, also allow their AV/Anti Spyware etal deal with things themselves. I have no problem with that, it's just that when problems arrive, it can generally be accredited to the user misusing/misunderstanding the software, and letting it go on and do what it wants, rather than the user confirming what the software is doing.

just wait until Kaspersky ****s up too.

my sig says it all.

They might so might any other company.

But Eset owned up that it wasn't just a false positive but a 'well hidden bug' from Nod32 Version 2.

So it was poor software and a suspect signature update.

I understand your move. I did the same.

The other issue with Eset's product is that it's quite stable when there are no virus infiltrations.

But as soon as there is. The software implodes on itself.

    • In that case this product has no value to me. I'd rather use older Creative SB that were better in my opinion or onboard audio chip.
